The article is directed at Emma Watson and other feminists, but it is an important read for just about anybody. The statistics are especially enlightening. http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/a-challenge-to-emma-watso_b_9349630.html Just in case that link doesn't work: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/sarah-blahovec/a-challenge-to-emma-watso_b_9349630.html Feel free to share related articles, facts or statistics. Or simply show your support for disabled women. IP: Logged |

Great links. It rather reminds me of a program I watched yesterday called "the ugliest women in the world" It told of her struggle to overcome her disabilities, that horrific title and become an inspirational speaker. I will try to find a link about her (I can`t remember her name)------------------ Partial truth~the seeds of wisdom~can be found in many places...The seeds of wisdom are contained in all scriptures ever written… especially in art, music, and poetry and, above all, in Nature.

I don't know if anybody is active on Tumblr, or uses it at all, but there's a pretty large disability community there. It's awesome for those of us who can't leave our homes for various reasons to socialize. It helps build community and just generally makes me feel better on bad days. Here's a couple of my favorite Tumblr blogs: Chronic Illness Help http://chronicillnesshelp.tumblr.com Chronic Illness Humor http://whatshouldwecallchronicillness.tumblr.com Disableism http://disableism.tumblr.com Disability Health http://disabilityhealth.tumblr.com Family in Chronicity http://family-in-chronicity.tumblr.com How Should We Treat Me http://howshouldwetreatme.tumblr.com Illness Master Post http://illnessmasterpost.tumblr.com Invisible Illness Awareness Week http://invisibleillnessweek.tumblr.com Letters to Thrive http://letterstothrive.tumblr.com My Arthritis Secret http://myarthritissecret.com My Chronic Pain Secret http://mypainsecret.com My Lupus Secret http://mylupussecret.com That Disabled Feel When... http://thatdisabledfeelwhen.tumblr.com Spoonie Living http://blog.spoonieliving.com The Spoonie Network http://thespoonienet.tumblr.com What Should We Call Fibro http://whatshouldwecallfibro.tumblr.com You Might Be A Spoonie If... http://spoonie-isms.tumblr.com Oh, and: The Spoon Theory by Christine Miserandino: http://www.butyoudontlooksick.com/articles/written-by-christine/the-spoon-theory/ IP: Logged |

I`ve seen her recently doing t.v. ads on preventing bullying. What an inspiration! ------------------ Partial truth~the seeds of wisdom~can be found in many places...The seeds of wisdom are contained in all scriptures ever written… especially in art, music, and poetry and, above all, in Nature.

She does live broadcasts on Facebook. I don't watch them because I don't watch any live broadcasts. I get alerts sometimes though. IP: Logged |

Thank you for the links I will check them out when I am able. Being disabled is no fun Been so since 1989; add in birth defects on top of it all and yeah, life is a struggle to do every day things others take for granted. I need help with just about everything. Being in poverty adds to the struggles, I am too often bed bound to boot. No fun here. Edit to add June 2022👽 Took me a long time but did look at all the links. Unfortunately nothing useful for the likes of myself👽 Seems one must have just one didabling condition and also be fortunate enough titionso afford college and transportation and also not be bed bound often. Have had bad experiences with the so called support groups out there because oddly most folks with just one disabling condition or illness often actually get angry at folks like myself with dozens of and or rare health conditions.👽😳🤬 I see folks with tattoos and t-shirts loudly proclaiming their their conditions. Survivor this survivor that👽 So what about me👽 I would have much of my body covered n such tattoos if I was to list them in ink on my body or a t-shirt👽 Having multiple disabling conditions is not popular or trendy and folks have no ideas how to react to ones such as myself👽 I just do not fit in to any of their nice trendy look at me see how brave I am categories 👽 Had hoped to find help somewhere but no luck. Rant over. Pardon typos can't see or type easily. IP: Logged |

Thank you for awareness, SV. I haven't explored your links yet... I "usually" try to read and absorb everything and watch vids before responding to posts. So sorry if I miss the mark here, but maybe what I have to say TOO, can add to the conversation in a meaningful way... I heard TD Jakes recently briefly mention his social theory behind helping people who are disabled or in some way disadvantaged.
When you form groups of dysfunctional people, sometimes what you get is reinforcement-lessons on that particular dysfunction. (I think being with others in support of each other is great and I wouldn't advocate stopping those?, but there comes a time where 'change' is needed. Adage, you can't keep doing the same thing, expecting different results?) (BTW, I'm only 'recalling' what I ~think he said-- these are not his quotes.) For example, Govt Agencies 'collect' all the poor people, and clump them together in housing poverty-villages. These people are in a pool and do not receive proper mentoring on HOW to get out of your ghetto. (Volunteers are needed? song)
(And, I think this can be applied to other types of dis-ablements.) There are subtleties we 'pick up' from healthy (or sick individuals) that we don't realize are toxic, or nourishing. We want to do this on a more Conscious and conscious level, where compassionate kind correction is willing to take place. Individual relationships and partnerships. Mentor-type relationships allow someone to take you under their wing. The person picks-up on their habits, their instincts, over time. You want to be a lawyer?, you hang with lawyers and see and absorb the kind of atmosphere of 'being' a lawyer. You pick up on their traits. (Hopefully?, you get someone ethical??? *looking* LOL) I think mentor-matching is critically important in the lives of some kinds of disabled persons at their point of readiness to re-enter society (if they had to put living aside for a while). You could even use astrology to match these, to time the strong and weak places, and make sure they will have provision (*ahem* Professional-Vision, a Pro-with-Vision) for that place and time in their life. I love asteroids, and Demetra George & Dennis Bloch had done some research they shared in book Asteroid Goddesses. CERES was pin-pointed as a marker for disability... and Ceres transits as energy-triggers to start and stop an era of this for a person's life. (OF COURSE, you cannot zero in on only ONE thing in a chart--- there will be other markers to strengthen or weaken that possibility?--- It's like astro-epigenetics??). Sometimes new habits to shape new behaviors and ways of thinking, are 'caught' (role models) rather than mentally rote 'taught'.
Why 'house' the poor together in poverty-villages.... You have a potential pool of people who DON'T know 'how to fish'... The blind leading the blind. Nobody to teach or inspire by right-example?
You need role models and mentors that take you out to the lake with them, with your own fishing pole (not defective), and bait, and they 'model' that for you? If you want to catch fish, you need to think like a fisherman/woman/whatever (LOL). (I hope this makes sense-- such a huge ruckus in my environment today! I may edit this later... or, just leave it as-is.) IP: Logged |
