I concur Taurus26. What you wrote sounds very reasonable to me. Even though i believe in the power of positive thought etc i found the film to be self-serving and a little bit blase with respect to any negative consequences of chasing what were essentially ungodly things i.e, money, cars, power etc. Surely love is the greatest there is. I was surprised at the materialistic self-centred perspective they put forward, especialy for such educated and 'wise' people!------------------ quote: ur perfect

Yes, I now know that anything portrayed in the mass media is not to be trusted. I am of those who believe the mass media is controlled by those who want to keep the dark forces in control of the earth. What a better way to keep the dark in control but to promote materialism (as spirituality in disguise no less).IP: Logged |

Yes, and what's this I hear about Oprah in cahoots with KFC giving away coupons at her site for a free meal there? Isnt she supposed to be an advocate for health? KFC? That Corportation.. the one that abuses animals? That's sweet. I think she couldve thought up a better way to feed people. All set with some hot bird flu and a side of cole slaw. Thanks anyway. I just re-read the article and thread and burst out laughing at this part: quote: One so-called “metaphysician” of The Secret, Joe Vitale, tells us “The universe is merely your CATALOG.” You just “shop” for whatever income, product, person or experience that you may want by thinking and visualizing constantly of it.
Good stuff. And I think the youtube video Petron linked up should be reposted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Et_jG58qg1k&feature=dir for those of us who desperately need a laugh. IP: Logged |

Going out on an embaressment limb here, but I was totally sleep deprived from moving and emotionally drained from....stuff and on the last day of the move I said "that's it, I`m laying down, leave me alone or die!" and of course, I was to TIRED to sleep. So my mind is spiraling WAAAY out there, and I jumped outta bed, ran into the living room and told my husband that Oprah was the anti-christ. He said "huh?" with that amused cappy twinkle. And I, ranting began to list all the reasons why I thought so. He goes "what did you watch last on tv" (mr.smartylogicearthdude) and I thought and said um The Omen??? HaHaHa so Please don`t crucify me oprah fans! Sometimes you gotta excuse the sleep deprived-horror movie fans.IP: Logged |

Life is not meant to be all about getting what you want and being happy all the time. How then would one grow? I'm anti-"Secret" here. Although I do believe that thoughts are things and we should watch them and strive to make them as positive as we can. The whole; "You can manifest absolutely everything you desire and life is supposed to be constant sunshine and fun' thing, irks the crap out of me. Or i guess the fact that people get sucked into believing it. I did for awhile too. Now i'm happy with what I have and am not constantly thinking about getting more, more, more. And instead trying to improve in the day to day and being happy in the now. IP: Logged |

Life is akin to fire - Both are filled with seeds of benefit actions, Both place before man a different longing. That our fortune in life may lack bitter pain Only he can wish who stupidly supposes There could be fire without sacrifice of fuel. - Rudolf SteinerIP: Logged |

Yes, it's quite simple really. Live simply, think good thoughts, do good deeds. Life's not all about getting riches and hot babes Thank you anyway, The Secret! IP: Logged |

Sounds like a lot of Christianity, too, especially prosperity theology. I made one fundie mad when she said she knew God loved someone because he had his own limo by saying God must also love pimps, mobsters, and Bill Clinton (whom she hated with a passion). A scam artist once sent me (and a handful of others I knew) a "prayer handkerchief" that supposedly granted wishes, and the letter that came with it tried to get me to send in "seed money" to their "ministry" and even gave me a check list for them to pray for me with, including money, romance, and other material goods (giving the Bible verses that say whatever you pray for in Jesus's name will be given to you). I checked out the scam online and found it had netted over a hundred million dollars! ('Course I attribute that to gullibility than to the power of God, though it's theoretically possible the scam artist prayed people would be stupid enough to fall for it...) And how much glurge have I gotten on the power of prayer? Probably not anywhere as much as most because my typical reaction is to block anyone who forwards glurge to me from emailing me ever again (at least after one warning). One example is the car that ran without a battery. (Though interesting how many people I knew praised God when miners were mistakenly believed alive but then when it came out that the miners were actually dead then God no longer mattered.) So all in all, it's not just the Satanists and the new agers that think the universe is obligated to provide for them, act as a genie in a bottle, and be their personal bodyguard (I've heard "God is bigger than any mugger" more than once). I think Janis Joplin summed it up with tongue in cheek in her song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-4AheUl6ls IP: Logged |

We all use the basic premise of The Secret whether we do so consciously or not. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark IP: Logged |
