I only recently learned that there are people who believe the earth is flat and not a globe. I haven't really looked into the research or read up on the theory a whole lot. Here is a simple wiki link-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_flat_Earth_societies

but I'm curious if anyone else here has looked into it, if anyone here believes in the theory, what people's thoughts and opinions on the theory and conspiracy are etc. Just a general discussion about it would be great. I'm going to remain completely impartial for now though my mind was pretty boggled and had a hard time accepting that people were discussing this, I do believe in "As Above, So Below" which flat earth theory does not subscribe to, but I do also believe in forms of matrix so......

@iQ- I'd be particularly interested in your thoughts if you have time and pop into this thread.

If Matrix Theory is correct, the whole universe is flat.

I have been reading about it too..very interesting...kinda makes sense...how could gravity be so weak, so they say, and hold all of us to this earth...and they also say that it's stated in the bible...the firmament...but i'm open to the concept...

People believed the world is flat for a while. We don't really know for how long, either; because History has been rewritten and hidden in public accounts.

One thing that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside is that this Earth was created and is here specifically for all of us living in it; and we need the Sun and Moon more than they need us to live here. So revolving around them is kind of odd in on that case/going by round world theory in sense that we don't really matter, but say sun and moon do, more than us. Not getting into life elsewhere kind of thing here, just op topic about flat earth and our existence in it with Sun and Moon being a part of it.

I would also like to know why people thought the Earth was flat in the sense of why universally. Without just saying people were uneducated, because that still applies to today's world. Just because info is available to us does not make it true; we all haven't become genius scientists just because of supposed knowledge being taught and available to us; and the Internet.

Also, no one has really challenged when the script was flipped, because really life as we know literally was not anymore, yet still life.

Interesting to know and think about.

One more thing; everything that physically fits into our world is mostly " flat ". Like the never ending line. Yes, a circle is perfect, but it consists of " the line ", which in a way, is flat, because anyway anyway you work with it it will always stretch into that line, even the sun on the horizon.: and certain ways you place it make use of the most space. For example a perfect circular house may look cool, but does not make sense. A bed, a painting, even a pencil. " 4 corners ".

I'd like to hear, if possible more ideas on this, actually!

The " 13th Floor " is a very underrated and great movie/vision for this.

Matrix happened to be released at same time, lol, so many people slept on it.

Wait, how do they explain airplane travel on a flat earth? How can we travel both ways, east and west?

Did some more research. Looks like there may actually be some valid points for flat earth theory.

It would explain why the north pole has a ton of more attention than the south pole/antarctica.

On the fence though.

Try this URL: http://earth.nullschool.net/

Choose the Earth Menu and select 'AE' Projection for flat earth. Choose temp or wind on overlay and notice some nice patterns. I guess they could also be done with a rotating spherical earth but they also look feasible with a flat earth model.

One of the arguments on behalf of flat earth is the horizontal horizon theory. Basically common 'knowledge' states that things disappearing from a person's viewpoint from far away disappears because they are going below the horizon (the curvature of the earth and your viewpoint). But now with advanced binoculars and technology that can zoom in very far, we find out that we still see the objects and that they don't drop below the horizon. Essentially, if the earth is a sphere of 25,000 miles in diameter, the curvature of the horizon should drop a certain amount for every 100 miles. Thus in theory, yes we should see parts of the object disappear as moves it outwards and beyond 100+ miles.

a) FE (Flat Earth) uses this as proof that because no object actually drops below the horizon that the earth must be actually flat with no curvature and this is why we don't see any object horizon drop.

b) But on the other hand maybe common 'knowledge' is wrong because we're just too lazy to understand the truth. What if this 'non-drop' in the horizon can actually be understood by physics. The fact that light and gravity actually affect each other. If light is slanted along the curvature of the earth due to gravity and our eyes are only receptors of light, then in fact we actually don't see in a linear line fashion (POV) as most people think but we actually are able to see any light that could be linear or curved. Therefore even though we see 100 miles of 'curved' light due to gravity's affect on the light, when it hits our eyes, we don't see the curve but believe we are seeing a horizontal horizon.

This is how I would expect light and gravity to interact but then again, I'm not a physicist so someone would need to fix my concept or confirm it.

"However, the key to this question came when Einstein developed his theory of general relativity. Photons of light are not technically affected by large gravitational fields; instead space and time become distorted around incredibly massive objects and the light simply follows this distorted curvature of space.Dec 26, 2013"

firsat off, electromagnetic field can change a photons path just as a gravitation field can.in fact there is no scientific way to ascertain if a distortion in a photons position is caused by gravity or a electromagnetic field.

second point, which is ignored by science , is that Einstein's special relativity of gravitation has not been proven. Einstein was never able to get the calculations correct.he submitted 18 different solutions over about 20 years ad they are all incorrect. Robert laughton a nobel prize winning physicists wrote in "a different universe" that physicist "supposed" that if the calculations were finished, they would be true. Einstein calculations are incorrect yet science acts as if they are complete. so you idea about what gravity does or doesn't do to a photon may just be a waste of your mental energy.

Weird, I heard somewhere that while Einstein actually didn't prove his theory of relativity, that it was proven true decades after his death by a physicist. I'll see if I can find the source again.

the findings that the bending of light was noted at an eclipse in 1919 more thn anything else catapulted him to fame.
but if you read in depth you will find out that the experiment was repeated. the reason wa the degree of reflection of light observed at the first eclipses did to match einstein's.but the publishing establishment annonced the result were the same. so the second time around the eclipses experiment was done, eonstein,s degree of deflection was exactly correct this time, my my my.and .

Einstein was a media baby. scientifically ,there is no soncept that Einstein uses that wasn't already in the scientific literature before him. there is nothing original in his paradigm.E=MC2 was in the scientific literature 4 years before Einstein.
Einstein was a plagiarist. there is a book called "Einstein:the plagiarist".
the big lie is that Einstein claimed all the concepts in his theory as his . this was such a blatant lie that Einstein was never given the nobel prize for relativity because every famous scientist of the day would have been there stopping their feet.

SDragon/Todd do you mean by chance Arthur Eddington?

Also - looks like Literally today general relativity theory is proven true, again...

.... For some, for now.

And we all happen to be talking about it, regardless, right before and right now. Pretty neat.
