Detective Who Led Epstein Investigation Died After "Brief Illness" At 50

Again, another story that didn’t quite make it into the mainstream news’ narrative involving Jeffrey Epstein. In June of last year, decorated former Palm Beach detective Joseph Recarey died after a “brief illness” at the age of 50, and that’s basically all we know, but do a search for him and you’ll barely see anything in the mainstream media, or even alternative media about his death.

In 2018, The Palm Beach Daily News reported on his death, but there wasn’t much to report concerning the cause.

Joseph Recarey, a former Palm Beach detective who had a knack for making others smile, who tackled the island’s largest and most important investigations, and who cared deeply for his family and friends, died Friday, May 25, 2018, after a brief illness. He was 50.

Recarey was one of the most decorated police officers in the history of the department with more than 150 commendations, 11 officer-of-the-month awards and a 2013 Palm Beach Police Foundation Officer of the Year award, Reiter said. He worked in several units, including the Organized Crime Vice and Narcotics Unit and the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Public Integrity Unit. He was a lead detective in many major investigations, including the high-profile solicitation-of-minors case against billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.

No other information about the cause of death was released.

In reading the account, it seems ironic that it is mentioned that Mike Mason, one of Recarey’s closest friends and a former Palm Beach police officer, said he “last saw Recarey on a recent Thursday. Recarey took off work the next day to spend time with his family.”

Now, the story was printed on a Friday, but I’m not sure if “recent Thursday” would apply to the previous day or possibly another Thursday in the past week or two.

Regardless, all we know is he had a sudden, brief illness and died as a result at the young age of 50.

The Seattle Times reported on the two men and the work that took place in the case and the revelations that Reiter and Recarey brought to light.

For Reiter, business tycoon Jeffrey Epstein wasn’t any more formidable than any of the other 8,000 or so wealthy and powerful people living on the island. Police had handled sensational cases involving wealthy residents before — from the murders of heiresses to the rape case involving William Kennedy Smith, of the Kennedy family.

The easternmost town in Florida, Palm Beach is a 10.4-square-mile barrier island between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean populated by some of the richest people in the country. President Trump has his “winter White House” in Palm Beach, and the town makes news as much for its glitz as it does for its unusual efforts to preserve its well-mannered image, like banning shirtless joggers.

But it was a little surprising, even to Reiter, to learn that one of its residents had a revolving door of middle and high school girls coming to his gated compound throughout the day and night.

In their first media interviews about the case, Reiter and Recarey revealed new details about the investigation, and how they were, in their view, pressured by then-Palm Beach State Attorney Barry Krischer to downgrade the case to a misdemeanor or drop it altogether.

The piece is worth your time to read, not just for the information the two men provided, but also regarding how they were being followed, their trash was disappearing and political pressure that was brought to bear on them, along with what they were discovering in terms of physical evidence.

“It became apparent to me that some of our evidence was being leaked to Epstein’s lawyers, who began to question everything that we had in our probable cause affidavit,” Reiter said.

The day of the search on Oct. 20, 2005, they found that most of Epstein’s computer hard drives, surveillance cameras and videos had been removed from the house, leaving loose, dangling wires, according to the police report.

But the girls’ description of the house squared with what detectives found, right down to the hot pink couch and the dresser drawer of sex toys in Epstein’s bathroom.

Reiter said his own trash was disappearing from his house, as his life was put under Epstein’s microscope. Private investigators hired by Epstein’s lawyers even tracked down Reiter’s grade school teachers, the former chief said. Questions were raised about donations that Epstein had made to the police department, even though Reiter had returned one of the donations shortly after the investigation began.

Recarey, meanwhile, said he began to take different routes to and from work, and even switched vehicles because he knew he was being tailed.

“At some point it became like a cat-and-mouse game. I would stop at a red light and go. I knew they were there, and they knew I knew they were there. I was concerned about my kids because I didn’t know if it was someone that they hired just out of prison that would hurt me or my family,” Recarey said.

Despite relentless political pressure, Reiter and Recarey soldiered on, and their determination yielded evidence that supported most of the girls’ allegations, they said. They had phone records that showed Epstein and his assistant, Kellen, had called many of the girls. Epstein’s flight logs showed that the calls were made when Epstein was in Palm Beach.

They obtained dozens of message pads from his home that read like a who’s who of famous people, including magician David Copperfield and Donald Trump, an indication of Epstein’s vast circle of influential friends. There were also messages from girls, and their phone numbers matched those of many of the girls Recarey had interviewed, Recarey said. They read: “Courtney called, she can come at 4,” or “Tanya can’t come at 7 p.m. tomorrow because she has soccer practice.”

They also found naked photographs of underage girls in Epstein’s closet, Recarey said.

There were also witnesses: Two of Epstein’s butlers gave Recarey sworn interviews, confirming that young girls had been coming and going at the house. One of the butlers, Alfredo Rodriguez, told Recarey that when he was tasked with cleaning up the master bath after Epstein’s sessions with the girls he often discovered sex toys. Once, he accidentally stumbled on a high school girl, whom he identified, sleeping naked in Epstein’s spa, he testified in a 2009 court deposition.

Rodriguez said he was given the job of paying the girls, telling Recarey that he was “a human ATM machine” because he was ordered by Epstein to keep $2,000 on him at all times. He was also assigned to buy the girls gifts. Rodriguez gave Recarey copies of pages from a book that Epstein and his staff kept with the names and phone numbers for many of the Palm Beach girls, Recarey said.

Rodriguez, however, held onto the bulk of Epstein’s “little black book,” and in November 2009 tried to sell it for $50,000 to an undercover FBI agent posing as a victim’s lawyer. He was arrested, and sentenced in 2012 to federal prison, and died three years later following an illness. The book — listing personal phone numbers for a cavalcade of Epstein’s powerful friends and celebrities — eventually became public as part of a civil lawsuit. It listed more than 100 female names and phone numbers under the headings “massage” in every city where Epstein had homes.

It makes you wonder if that “brief illness” was brought on by outside forces. The man was in good health and only 50-years-old.

This sudden death is made all the more strange because of statements made by Reiter. In 2010, Reiter gave an exclusive interview to the Daily Beast where he states that during the investigation both him and Recarey became aware that they were under surveillance for several months by an unknown source. Reiter also previously stated that State Attorney Barry Krischer was hesitant to prosecute Epstein, causing Reiter to send a letter to Krischer complaining of the “highly unusual conduct” involved in the case. That State Attorney Krischer turned a blind eye to this case is made all the more disturbing when you recognize he was also in charge of Florida’s Crimes Against Children Unit, a position in which he could directly affect cases against individuals accused of crimes against kids.

Maria Farmer, who along with her younger sister Annie was one of the first women to contact the FBI with allegations about the pedophile, spoke about her horror when she was shown the media room inside Epstein's home.

That horror stemmed from the fact that Farmer quickly realized once she was inside the room that Epstein had cameras surveilling guests throughout the house - even in the bathroom.

'The main thing, I thought was interesting was he showed me where the men monitoring everything were,' Farmer told Anthony Mason in her interview that aired on Monday.

Farmer said in an affidavit that she was sexually assaulted by Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell after the pair commissioned her to paint a mural in the Ohio home of Limited Brands millionaire Les Wexner.

ABOARD A US GOVERNMENT AIRCRAFT (AP) — Attorney General William Barr said he initially had his own suspicions about financier Jeffrey Epstein’s death while behind bars at one of the most secure jails in America but came to conclude that his suicide was the result of “a perfect storm of screw-ups.”

In an interview with The Associated Press, Barr said his concerns were prompted by the numerous irregularities at the New York jail where Epstein was being held. But he said after the FBI and the Justice Department’s inspector general continued to investigate, he realized there were a "series" of mistakes made that gave Epstein the chance to take his own life.

I can understand people who immediately, whose minds went to sort of the worst-case scenario because it was a perfect storm of screw-ups,” Barr told the AP as he flew to Montana for an event. Barr’s comments come days after two correctional officers who were responsible for guarding the wealthy financier when he died were charged with falsifying prison records. Officers Tova Noel and Michael Thomas are accused of sleeping and browsing the internet — shopping for furniture and motorcycles — instead of watching Epstein, who was supposed to be checked on every 30 minutes.

Epstein took his own life in August while awaiting trial on charges he sexually abused girls as young as 14 and young women in New York and Florida in the early 2000s. His suicide cast a spotlight on the federal Bureau of Prisons, which has been plagued by chronic staffing shortages and outbreaks of violence. The indictment unsealed this week against the officers shows a damning glimpse of safety lapses inside a high-security unit at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan.

But the indictment also provided new details that reinforce the idea that, for all the intrigue regarding Epstein and his connections to powerful people, his death was a suicide — as the city’s medical examiner concluded — and possibly preventable.

A lawyer for Thomas, Montell Figgins, said both guards are being “scapegoated.” The attorney general also sought to dampen conspiracy theories by people who have questioned whether Epstein really took his own life, saying the evidence proves Epstein killed himself. He added that he personally reviewed security footage that confirmed that no one entered the area where Epstein was housed on the night he died.

Epstein was placed on suicide watch after he was found July 23 on his cell floor with bruises on his neck but was taken off the heightened watch about a week before his death, meaning he was less closely monitored but still supposed to be checked on every 30 minutes. He was required to have a cellmate, but he was left with none after his cellmate was transferred out of the MCC on Aug. 9, the day before his death, the indictment said.

Epstein was found unresponsive in his cell when the guards went to deliver breakfast. One of the guards told a supervisor then that they hadn’t done their 3 a.m. or 5 a.m. rounds, according to the indictment.

The Justice Department is still investigating the circumstances that led to Epstein’s death, including why he wasn’t given a cellmate. “I think it was important to have a roommate in there with him and we’re looking into why that wasn’t done, and I think every indication is that was a screw-up,” Barr said. “The systems to assure that was done were not followed.”

Epstein’s death ended the possibility of a trial that would have involved prominent figures and sparked widespread anger that he wouldn't have to answer for the allegations. Even with his death, federal prosecutors in New York have continued to investigate the allegations against Epstein. Barr, who has vowed to aggressively investigate and bring charges against anyone who may have helped Epstein, said investigators were making good progress in the case.

Jeffrey Epstein Had ’13 Contact Numbers for His Friend Prince Andrew’

Investigators looking at the activities of convicted sex-offendor Jeffrey Epstein discovered an address book containing more than a dozen telephone numbers for his friend the Duke of York, it is being claimed.

Epstein’s address book – discovered at his mansion in Palm Beach, Florida – contained numbers for several of Prince Andrew’s residences.

A private investigator with close knowledge of the probe into Epstein’s activities now claims these included Buckingham Palace, Sunninghill Park – which Andrew shared with his former wife Sarah Ferguson until 2004 – and Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate.

Mike Fisten, one of the first investigators to examine allegations that Epstein, who took his own life in August this year, sexually abused and trafficked dozens of underage girls, claimed:

“The book was a treasure trove of Jeffrey’s activities … this book showed us the scope of Jeffrey’s travels, girls, and contacts.

“It really took us out of South Florida and took us around the globe … you could take for instance, if looking at the section in London, you could pick out, the Duke of York, which is Prince Andrew. And when you look at that, under Duke of York it shows Buckingham Palace London.”

Mr Fisten, who added: “He has thirteen phone number to contact the Duke. And (these numbers went everywhere), Wood Farm, Sunninghill Wood Farm, Sunninghill numbers, the Palace, his home number, his home email. He even had a phone number to his modem, I guess to call into his modem.”

The private investigator was one of the first to interview Virginia Roberts, who has repeatedly claimed that Prince Andrew had sex with her when she was aged just 17.

Suicide or Suicided? Jeffrey Epstein's Private Wealth Banker Found Dead by Hanging

As the story of allegedly deceased, billionaire and convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein continues to unfold, more and more people are turning up dead who are linked to him. The latest to leave the planet is Corporate banker Thomas Bowers, who ran the US division of private wealth management for Deutsche Bank AG. After allegedly being found swinging from a rope, his death was ruled a suicide. However, he wasn’t just tied to Epstein. He was also tied to President Donald Trump.

Thomas Bowers, 55, hanged himself on November 19 at his Malibu home.

The banker was not working for Deutsche Bank at the time.

He is among a handful of people who signed off on loans totaling $2 billion to Trump in the decades before he became president, even after other institutions turned him down.

True Pundit adds that there was an investigation being conducted by the FBI into bank loans that he approved for Epstein and some of his many companies.

The news of yet another mysterious Epstein-linked death comes shortly after the FBI was seeking to interview the bank executive about loans he approved for Epstein and the indicted child trafficker’s labyrinth of US-based and offshore companies.

Bowers headed the private wealth banking division for Deutsche Bank and signed off on millions in loans to Epstein. Bowers, prior to taking over the private banking arm at Deutsche Bank, served in the same top position at Citibank, as the head of the bank’s private wealth arm. Citigroup also made massive loans to Epstein, according to records and banking sources who spoke to True Pundit.

True Pundit founder Mike “Thomas Paine” Moore previously headed anti-money laundering for a major Citigroup division during the time frame Citi commenced large loans to Epstein.

“The loans to Epstein were personal and commercial,” Paine confirmed. “The Citi loans I can confirm were for more than $25 million. Some were secured, some were not.”

Did Citi bend its lending rules for Epstein? Paine said that appears “quite likely,” with Bowers and other Citi executives he later recruited to work for him at Deutsche all working to secure the approvals regardless of compliance-related red flags.

And sources said Citi loaned Epstein much more money, eclipsing $100 million and also allowed Epstein to use the bank to send thousands of wire transfers from his accounts. Bowers, who turned up dead just days ago, brokered the loans for Epstein, sources said.

Bowers was the chief of Deutsche Bank’s Private Wealth Management division and worked from the bank’s Park Avenue offices in New York City. At Citi, Bowers served as the chief of the The Citi Private Bank and previously ran Citigroup’s Global Markets and Wealth Management businesses.

And when Bowers left Citi for Deutsche Bank, Epstein followed.

Meanwhile, Epstein stopped making payments on his millions in outstanding Citi loans. But that mattered little because Bowers approved new high-risk loans and credit lines from Deutsche Bank, sources said.

And that relationship with Epstein continued until Bowers left Deutsche Bank in 2015. By that time, Epstein had chalked up untold millions in loans with the help of Bowers who recruited many of his top private wealth top bankers from Citi to Deutsche Bank.

The FBI who was interested in interviewing Bowers, sources confirm. The FBI subpoenaed Deutsche Bank in May for all loans and accounts linked to Epstein and there were many unanswered questions. Deutsche Bank closed out Epstein’s accounts weeks after the bank was served federal subpoenas.

Federal law enforcement officials said the FBI planned to interview all Wall Street wealth fund managers who worked for Epstein. Bowers included.

Several people tied to the Epstein case have met their deaths prior to the alleged demise of Jeffrey Epstein.

That’s not all.

President Donald Trump also is tied to Bowers, and an investigation by the FBI is ongoing into his dealings with Deutsche Bank.

Forensic News reported, “Bowers was the boss of Donald Trump’s banker Rosemary Vrablic, according to a New York Times article in early 2019. Vrablic approved over $300 million dollars in high risk loans for Trump starting in 2010. Bowers personally signed off on the Deutsche Bank loan for Trump’s Doral resort, according to the New York Times report. Vrablic’s other clients have included Jared Kushner and Stephen M. Ross.”

Additionally, The Daily Mail added, “A former Deutsche Bank executive who signed off on several controversial loans to Donald Trump was being discussed as part of an FBI probe into the bank where he acted as a ‘gatekeeper’ for its wealthiest customers before his death.”

The UK outlet also wrote:

He is among a handful of people who signed off on loans totaling $2 billion to Trump in the decades before he became president, even after other institutions turned him down.

Trump’s dealings with Deutsche Bank is under investigation by two Congressional committees and the New York Attorney General, The New York Times reported.

Investigators are seeking to use Deutsche Bank to probe Trump’s personal and business finances.

A source with knowledge of an FBI investigation into Deutsche Bank said that federal investigators had asked about Bowers and documents he might have.

What’s interesting is that the FBI is examining whether Deutsche Bank complied with laws meant to stop money laundering.

According to a Reuters report:

The inquiry follows a report by the New York Times last month about bank employees in the U.S. compliance division who had flagged suspicious financial transactions to their superiors, who then opted not to escalate them to government authorities.

The transactions were notable because they were linked to companies controlled by President Donald Trump and his son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner, according to the report.

All indications are that this is nothing more than a routine investigation and President Trump has dismissed claims that he acted inappropriately saying that he didn’t need banks because he had so much cash on hand. He also denied that money came to him from Russia.

However, if that is the case, why did he need to borrow hundreds of millions from George Soros to build?

In 2005, when Trump began financing the construction of the tallest residential tower on the North American continent the Trump International Hotel and Tower (Chicago), he needed more than just the basic loan he had received from Deutsche Bank. Trump needed what is called a “mezzanine loan”, a loan which is far more expensive than a regular bank loan. This kind of loan needs to be paid off more quickly to avoid high interest payments. It also needs to be paid back in full to keep the lender from taking ownership of the underlying asset.

“Mezzanine financing is basically debt capital that gives the lender the rights to convert to an ownership or equity interest in the company if the loan is not paid back in time and in full…

Soros along with Fortress and Blackacre came to Trump with just such a loan at a costly $160 million principal*. The The Wall Street Journal had valued the loan at as much as $360 million, depending on the length of time it accrued interest.

In 2012, Trump continued to owe money to his lenders but sales of his condominiums had picked up and his tower had a 69% occupancy rate. As Crain’s Chicago put it: “The region’s housing and condo market is still mired in a historic slump. But when it comes to buying and selling in Chicago’s high-end condo market, life is surprisingly good… Condominium owners at the $850 million Trump International Hotel & Tower and other newer top-end buildings have, more often than not, experienced value appreciation when they sold in recent years.” 4

While Trump was not yet making a profit on his tower, his sales and value appreciations were such that his building was generating significant revenue, more than enough revenue to pay back to his lenders large portions of his loans. As former New York real estate developer David Rose writes in his article “How to pay off a Skyscraper”:

“After a number of years have passed, several things are likely to have happened: 1) the mortgage has been significantly paid down; 2) the value of the underlying building has increased; and 3) the owner has waited for a time in the economic cycle where mortgage rates are low. At that point [they] will ‘refinance’ the original mortgage, and put the balance to work somewhere else where it can make even more money.” 5

(Fortunately for Trump, favorable financial conditions existed in 2012. 6 By all accounts, including his own, Trump was ready and able to pay off the loans for his Chicago tower. 7)

Yet Trump did not have to worry about paying back the majority of his mezzanine loan. A special group of lenders came in and erased a significant portion of this obligation.

That group was the original mezzanine loan lenders: Soros, Fortress and Blackacre; all of whom decided to forgive Trump’s future interest payments on the loan, selling it to him at the massively reduced price of $48 million. To put that in starker terms, Soros and the others effectively gave Trump possibly hundreds of millions of dollars in debt forgiveness, while cutting down the principal of his loan by $82 million**. Basically, Soros and the others forgave Trump as much as $312 million for no apparent reason.

In a further twist to the story, in the same article from Chicago Business revealed: “After buying out the junior debt [the mezzanine loan], Mr. Trump says he now owes about $120 million on the building that comes due in 1½ years.” 8

The aforementioned shows us that in 2012 Trump had already paid off most of the Deutsche Bank loan before Soros, etc. came in and wiped out most of his mezzainine debt. This raises the question, why wasn’t Trump expected by Soros, Fortress and Blackacre to pay back their riskier, high-interest mezzanine loan? Also, how was Trump able to pay down his Deutsche Bank loan – demonstrating the means to pay off all his loans – yet still have Soros and the others give him somewhere between $82 million and $312 million in debt forgiveness?

That’s a lot of money people! I think it probably deserves an answer considering that he spent several hundred million of his own money to run for president. I simply ask the question, is it possible that that debt forgiveness was to cover his presidential race the first time around? I’m just asking here.

A family friend, Laura Goldman, told U.K. paper The Sun that Ghislaine is texting friends from her secret hideaway.Goldman, who was friends with both Maxwell and her sister Isabel, told The Sun: “Ghislaine and her sister Isabel remain totally convinced that she’ll escape any criminal convictions and will eventually clear the family name and return to high society once the dust has settled.“She obviously has some serious dirt on someone to be so sure of herself in the circumstances,” Goldman said.

Goldman, a former New York City stockbroker who used to mix in the same circles as Epstein and Maxwell, before cutting them both off after the financier’s first arrest in 2008, told The Sun: “She has wealthy connections who hide her and even pay some legal fees. She can stay out of the public eye as long as she wants.”

There’s much mystery surrounding the life and death of Jeffrey Epstein, but this is most certainly the first time the pervasive Israeli spy agency has entered the scene.

The late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and his former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, were on Mossad’s payroll, a new book claims.

The soon-to-be-released Epstein: Dead Men Tell No Tales is an investigative work by journalists Dylan Howard and Melissa Cronin and novelist James Robertson.

According to the book, Epstein got involved with Mossad via Robert Maxwell, the British newspaper tycoon of eastern European Jewish descent and Ghislaine’s father.

Maxwell died at sea in November 1991 at the age of 68; theories about his death range from accident to assassination. Shortly thereafter, it was discovered that Maxwell had plundered the pension funds of his employees to shore up his troubled global publishing empire.

Ari Ben-Menashe, a former arms dealer who served in a senior position for Israel’s Military Intelligence Directorate from 1977 to 1987, has previously claimed that Robert Maxwell and him had worked on arms shipments to Iran in the 1980s – which came to be known as the Iran–Contra affair.

As further proof of Maxwell’s involvement with Mossad, Ben-Menashe – who had also advised President Yitzhak Shamir on foreign intelligence – said the media tycoon had tipped off Israeli authorities about a technician who sought to disclose his knowledge of Israel’s nuclear programme to his newspaper. The technician, Mordechai Vanunu, was later abducted in Italy with the help of an undercover agent and transported to Israel, where he was sentenced to 18 years in jail for treason in a behind-closed-doors trial.

According to Dead Men Tell No Tales, Israeli ‘superspy’ Rafi Eitan – the Mossad agent in charge of Adolf Eichmann’s abduction from Argentina – had also confirmed Maxwell’s ties with Mossad.

Ari Ben-Menashe is quoted in the book as saying: “[Ghislaine] Maxwell introduced [Epstein] to us, and he wanted us to accept him as part of our group.”

Although it is widely thought that Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein met in the early 1990s, after she moved to New York following her father’s death, Ben-Menashe claimed they began dating in the late 1980s.

“Epstein was hanging around with Robert Maxwell and the daughter was hanging around there too, and that’s how they met,” he said, adding that the order to involve Epstein in arms deals came from Israeli intelligence agents.

“Later on [Ghislaine] got involved with Israeli intelligence together with him. But not in this arms deal with Iran business.”

“They weren’t really competent to do very much,” he said of Maxwell and Epstein. “And so they found a niche for themselves – blackmailing American and other political figures.”

“Mr. Epstein was the simple idiot who was going around providing girls to all kinds of politicians in the United States. See, f**king around is not a crime. It could be embarrassing, but it’s not a crime. But f**king a fourteen-year-old girl is a crime. And he was taking photos of politicians f**king fourteen-year-old girls…They would just blackmail people, they would just blackmail people like that.”

Ghislaine Maxwell hasn’t been seen in public for about three years now, and the FBI is reportedly investigating her role in Epstein’s crimes. She has been accused by several of his purported victims of procuring young girls for the disgraced financier.

NYC Bar Association gives Bill Barr a stunning rebuke — and asks Congress to investigate him for bias

The New York City Bar Association has taken the extraordinary step of asking Congress to investigate Attorney General Bill Barr for being too politically biased to faithfully execute his duties as America’s top law enforcement official.

Bloomberg reports that the Bar Association is claiming that Barr’s recent statements and actions indicate that he may be enabling and encouraging “political partisans willing to use the levers of government to empower certain groups over others.”

The association also accuses Barr of disregarding “fundamental obligations in several public statements during the past few months,” including his duty to “act impartially, to avoid even the appearance of partiality and impropriety, and to avoid manifesting bias, prejudice or partisanship in the exercise of official responsibilities.”

Among the statements by Barr cited by the association to support their charges against him were his speech made last October at the University of Notre Dame in which he vowed to put the Department of Justice “at the forefront” in the battles against the “forces of secularization” that he said were harming America’s traditional moral order.

According to Bloomberg, this “appears to be the first time the New York bar or any comparable bar association has asked Congress to investigate a sitting attorney general.”

Video of Jeffrey Epstein’s Suicide Attempt “Accidentally” Destroyed by US Government

A new Rasmussen poll shows that just 21 per cent of Americans believe Jeffrey Epstein killed himself while 52 per cent believe he was murdered.

It should come as no surprise that so few people believe the official narrative as Zachary Stieber reports that video footage from outside Jeffrey Epstein’s cell actually “no longer exists,” the government said in a new letter, less than a month after prosecutors initially said the footage wasn’t available, before quickly saying in an update that the footage had been found.

But is he really dead in the first place?

Writing to U.S. District Judge Kenneth Karas, prosecutors Maurene Comey and Jason Swergold said there was a mix-up when they asked the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) to preserve the footage from outside the cell.

Epstein was found unconscious with marks around his neck early July 23, 2019. Epstein’s cellmate at the time was accused murderer Nicholas Tartaglione. The defendant’s lawyer requested video footage from outside Epstein’s cell from July 22 and July 23, 2019.

Prosecutors told the defense on Dec. 19, 2019, that it confirmed with staff at the center that the footage was preserved. On Jan. 3, the center provided the government with a copy of the video it preserved.

“After reviewing the video, it appeared to the government that the footage contained on the preserved video was for the correct date and time, but captured a different tier” than the one where Epstein and Tartaglione’s cell was, prosecutors wrote in the letter.

Legal counsel at MCC told prosecutors that the computer system at the center listed a different cell for Tartaglione, leading to staff preserving the wrong video.

While the center has a backup system in place to house all video footage for its Special Housing Unit, where Epstein and Tartaglione were being held, the FBI reviewed the system as part of a separate investigation “and determined that the requested video no longer exists on the backup system and has not since at least August 2019 as a result of technical errors.”

The update is the third change in the government’s position on the video footage.

On Dec. 18, 2019, Swergold, the assistant U.S. attorney, told Karas in court that nobody could find the video. A day later, he and Comey wrote to Karas to tell him that the government confirmed with staff at the MCC that the video was preserved.

Epstein, 66, died about two weeks after the July 23, 2019, incident. He was awaiting trial on child sex trafficking charges.

The government letter also came a day after a judge in Florida denied an effort to release records from the 2006 grand jury that indicted Epstein on a felony prostitution count.

Millions of dollars that were sent from the estate of disgraced billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein into a bank he owned – but appeared to never have operated as a business – has raised questions from a judge overseeing a court case over his remaining assets.

In a hearing yesterday in the Virgin Islands over the disgraced financier’s remaining assets, Judge Carolyn Hermon-Purcell told lawyers representing his estate she wasn’t satisfied with their account of large sums being sent to a bank first set up by the pedophile in 2014.

The judge has been tasked with assessing Epstein’s assets and possibly creating a victims’ fund for the women he assaulted.

In documents presented to the judge, transactions show a series of multi-million dollar payments from Epstein’s estate to his bank, Southern County International, after his death.

Despite the territory approving the bank’s operation in 2014, the bank showed no signs of having been operational in the years before Epstein’s death.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation into potential misconduct by guards as officials keep inmates locked down at the federal jail in New York where financier Jeffrey Epstein killed himself over the summer, three people familiar with the matter told The Associated Press on Thursday.

The investigation at the Metropolitan Correctional Center is focusing on the flow of contraband into one of the most secure jails in America and is being led by federal prosecutors from the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan, the people said. They were not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The criminal investigation comes as inmates have remained locked in their cells without access to their lawyers a week after authorities began searching cells in search of a possible gun that so far they’ve been unable to find. The investigation started after jail officials received information that a gun may have been smuggled into the Manhattan lockup. Since then, officials have canceled all visitation at the jail, which houses about 700 inmates. There are no signs of the lockdown ending anytime soon.

The lockdown is just the latest crisis at the jail where Epstein died by suicide in August. Federal prosecutors allege that the two correctional officers assigned to watch Epstein’s unit were snoozing and shopping on the internet, and later forged records to make it look like they checked in on him.

All visitors and inmates are searched before entering the facility and go through metal detectors. They are supposed to leave personal belongings outside the jail. All mail is also screened by correctional staff. A gun smuggled inside would be a major security breach.

In the past few days, officers have searched the facility and uncovered a sizable amount of contraband, including cellphones, but no gun has been found, the people said. Investigators are trying to determine how the contraband has been entering into the facility.

The Bureau of Prisons said the jail is on "modified operations” because of the investigation. The bureau provided no estimate for when normal operations could resume, raising legal concerns because the jail houses pretrial inmates while their cases are ongoing.

In a statement to the AP, the agency said it must “take the time needed to complete a thorough investigation while actively working to return the facility to normal operations as soon as possible.” David Patton, executive director and chief attorney of the Federal Defenders of New York, said it's a violation of inmates' constitutional rights to deny them visits with their lawyers. He also said it has affected legal proceedings.

"Sentencings are being delayed. Hearings are being delayed," Patton said. "But the MCC acts as though it's perfectly fine for them to just shut down the entire institution to look for contraband. It's just not acceptable. They've got to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time.”

Patton said federal prison officials have refused to provide information about what has prompted the current lockdown, other than saying it is for “security concerns.” They have not told the federal defenders that they are searching for a gun, he said.

Patton said the chief judge in the Southern District of New York has been working with the U.S. Marshals Service to bring a small number of people to the courthouse for individual meetings with lawyers, but they're capped at just five per day.

“It's just not nearly sufficient to deal with the need,” he said. The agency said Thursday that it arranged for additional staff from other parts of the U.S. to assist in the investigation and ensure there is appropriate staffing at the jail. The agency said it "has maintained communication with stakeholders as needed” and held a meeting with the chief federal judge and public defender in Manhattan, along with prosecutors, the Marshals Service and probation officials.

The agency also said it has discussed a plan to resume legal visits at the jail on Friday and expects to allow full legal visitation by next week. Visits with family members could resume as soon as this week, officials added.

“The Bureau has been working closely with the stakeholders throughout this period to ensure those defendants with imminent court deadlines have the legal visits with their legal counsel as needed,” the statement said.

Inmates are being locked down for 24 hours a day, and lawyers have been told that on some units the prisoners are being denied showers and being given cold meals in their cells. One inmate reported receiving peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for every meal since last Thursday.

The bureau said inmates are on a periodic shower rotation, except for those in special housing units, who remain on a regular schedule. “All inmates have access to medical care and appointments and medical staff continue normal rounds on every floor,” the Bureau of Prisons said.
