I thought it would be fun if we all shared our own personal tips for health and beauty and stuff...here are some of mine:For soft, mouisturized skin, I put a layer of aloe vera on my face after I wash it and before I go to bed. It really works great, and it is antibacterial too. For shiny hair, when I am finishing in the shower, I turn the water cold, and rinse my hair in it. People really notice when I do it, because it really makes a difference. Since I take birth control pills, I have low vitamin B. Well I discovered that nutritional yeast is high in vitamin B, so I drink a tablespoon in some juice, and get a ton of energy! This might help any of you who take the pill.. For indigestion or eating too much I boil some fresh ginger root and drink the water with a squeeze of lime. This really helps digestion along. To help me relax before bed, I take a few calcium pills, which a natural relaxant (is that a word? you know what I mean) before bed. If you are a woman, there is no reason not to do this!!! Btw, Calcium citrate is absorbed better into the body than calcium carbonate, and doesn't constipate the way that carbonate does. Good posture! It helps digestion, appearence, back aches. I will share some more soon. Please share yours with me!! THanks!

I use Burt's Bees soap, either the garden tomato (with exfoliator in it) or the wild lettuce (just bought that one)... and oil of olay moisturizer, though Zia Natural moisturizer is great too.I keep meaning to try the aloe vera gel and I keep forgetting that I want to do that. *sighs* IP: Logged |

I use sorbolene creme for EVERYTHING. As a soap, cleanser, moisturiser, once i've dried my hair I add a little bit to smooth it down (it stops frizz). I also use it when I have to shave my legs or underarms...its good for sensitive skin, rashes & irritations ....its brilliant and cheap! IP: Logged |

theFajita, Just wanted to say hi again, you're such a sweetie sooooo let's see. Oh firstly like SnowWhite I use Oil of Olay moisturizer. Whenever I can I like to rinse my face with chamomille and I use the flowers as paste for a mask. It gives a radiant skin. I have oily skin so this is a wonder. For you gals out there with dry skin avocado is amazing......I L O V E eating avocados...grew up on them...(my favourite fruit/vegie in the world), alas I have had to cut down with this whole cholesterol thing...sighs! I alternate the temperature in my shower as well but for the whole body, as well as my hair. Good for circulation. A great mask for the hair which I have not done for soooooo long cause it takes so long to wash is olive oil for shiny hair...its an old Greek thingy and what they used to suggest is cover your hair in a towel or bath cap for an hour....then you spend hours washing it But, it really works especially for dry hair. Makes hair look very shiny!I'll think of some more and will share when I can okay! Love Mystique IP: Logged |

Cool! THanks Ruby and Mystique! I will have to try that olive oil thing- I have heard many good things about that as well. OH- and I know about avocados, but the truth is, I can't NOT eat it when I have one! I always say next time but then break down and squish it up with some salt and lime juice and tomato, and yummy! Mystique, you are a sweet heart too! ------------------ Food is the only art that nourishes! IP: Logged |

...giggles...I know what you mean....but I have to be so strict now until I lower my cholesterol...too young to have this but oh well always a reason hey! Oh my gosh do you know how torturous it is passing avocados in the grocery store and drooling over them!(sighs).I don't even wait to cut up my avocado in the salad....I have my spoon ready, cut the avocado in half, hand shaking from excitement and devour the whole thing, not enough time for salt or pepper or nothin...next thing I know I only have a quarter of it left to mix in the salad. So now you'll know how to picture me next time I tell you I'm out to buy one I'm off to dreamland pretty soon but will think of some more beauty tips for you...hope more girls and boys will share too! Hello, everyone! This is a really good idea! As for food in relation to beauty, I'm completely ignorant and I think I also forgot a lot of the tips I used to know. I just eat what I like, lately I concentrate on vitamins. Vitamin B is great for the hair, nails and especially skin. It makes it softer and radiant. But you have to combine it with vitamins C and A and of course E. I heard that if you rinse your hair with vinegar (maybe you dilute it with some water, I don't know, haven't tried it yet) after you wash it, it's very shiny. It smells, but only until it dries up, I think. I know this because one of my friends did that and her hair was so unbelievably shiny! And putting an egg (it has collagen) in your hair and massaging it is also good. But the smell is terrible, so I don't really recommend it before you go into public. And, yes, the olive-oil thing is very good for dry hair. I used to steam-bath my face with chamomile tea (to open the pores and soothe the skin) and after that I put on pure lemon juice. This way it gets deeper into the pores and works. My skin problems were gone in a month or so, I had very radiant skin, the only problem was that it was very very dry because of the lemon juice. You have to moisturise it which I didn't. And it's also a lot of work, so... The lemon juice also bleeches your skin so you get a lovely porcelain complexion and one of my mother's friends puts it on her hands to get rid of the spots which come with old age (I think you call them liver spots) and it works. I moisturise my body with Nivea Q-10 and it's the best moisturizer I ever had because I have very dry skin on my body and none of the moisturizers really helped, except this one. For my face lately I just use L'Oreal products. I guess that's it for now. If I remember anything more, I'll post it! I have to try that aloe though. IP: Logged |

Fajita, a hairstylist I once knew told me about washing your hair in cold/lukewarm water! I do it too sometimes....hot water damages your hair. I also take Vitamin E, a chewable multi-vitamin (I'm a wuss), drink lactose-free milk (I don't know if the lactose part matters, but the calcium is great for skin/hair/nails). I also use Mario Badescu skincare products (you can sometimes get free samples through the website and their facials are really nice-and less expensive than most places!). Lately, however, someone gave me a jar of La Mer cream ($$$-I thought it was a waste of $), and I'm really loving it. My skin just looks nice (well, combination that and not smoking-it's been 5 weeks!). I don;'t wear powder anymore. Well, maybe if I go out. But i'm very red (really rosy cheeks). Two body moisturizers I love are: Fruit of the Earth Vitamin E and Kiehl's Creme de Corps. They also have a grapefruit body wash that smells so good.... Drnking water is also hugely important. I also love the Aussie Shine stuff for hair..just dab a little in your palsm and run throguh your hair. It's not greasy and it helps prevent/combat static hair in the winter. ------------------ "What lies behind us and lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us." -Ralph Waldo Emerson IP: Logged |

Oh, and one other thing....this is GREAT for smooth hands (and feet and elbows, probably)-I hould do this more often, but never get around to it (but it's wonderful): Put some sugar in the palm of your hand. Pour lemon juice (freshly queezed is good) into your hand and SCRUB. It's such a winderful exfoliant for your hands...then rinse (I like to do this whole procedure at the sink). Pat your hands dry and apply a non-greasy moisturizer. Voila! Smooth hands... My Taurus Sun/Cappy Moon/Libra Asc. friend has a twist-she uses kosher salt with olive oil and swears by it! Maybe I just really love citrus scents... ------------------ "What lies behind us and lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us." -Ralph Waldo Emerson IP: Logged |

And then with the cold water, I am glad to hear you heard that before.I will have to try that scrub on my feet- they get knocked around in my high heels all day at work! It's actually called Aussie Gloss (it's a small purple bottle). I've never tried that on my feet...I keep meaning to. I had minor surgery on my lower legs two months ago, otherwise I'd go all out with a pedicure right now. *sigh* Let me know how it works! ------------------ "What lies behind us and lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us." -Ralph Waldo Emerson IP: Logged |

Ciao my bella theFaj! Hi girlies...no boys yet hmmmmm...must be a boring topic for them, no I know they just like the end result like Aphrodite says...I've got a peachy one I use.Oxychic, Good for you quitting smoking 5 weeks now....I am still smoking (Watch Randall come marching in now ) I'm going to try that natural scrub you suggested...might as well put my bag of sugar to good use...don't use it except for guests! I like to squeeze a whole lemon (sometimes half) in a glass of water and drink that as fresh lemonade. If you warm the water it helps with digestion and good for losing weight I believe. Not only that if you squeeze the whole lemon you get your daily Vitamin C as well. Don't forget to drink with a straw 'cause the acid is hard on the teeth. Well girlies that's my beauty tip of the day Nighty night Love Mystique IP: Logged |

Oxy- I hope you are healing up ok from your surgery!! Aphrodite that scrub sounds so yummy! Yes I believe those flavors are proven to be good in bringing the MOOD on... thanks for the tip.. Mystique I lOVE lemon in water- and yes I know warm water is good for lessening the appetite and helps move things along in the digestive system! COOL! Yes, my teeth are suffering because I have a slight problem with eating lemons or limes with salt, I crave the sour, I did a thread on it when I first came to Linda-land.. So I will use a straw, I am TRYing to be better Morgana- I still love how I feel using that nutrional yeast-and now from what you taught me I always mix it with some kind of citrus for the vitamin C. Love to all, hope everyone enjoys their weekend! ------------------ Food is the only art that nourishes! IP: Logged |

I think I'm the first boy!Well, first let's say that I'm a complete narcissist. In ancient Greece, guys were just as big on mirrors as girls, and nowadays guys are so uptight about ... everything... anyway, I kinda wish somebody would come out with a "manly makeup" line. Does anyone have any tips for removing freckles? I have a ton, they are welcome to go any time. I agree that posture is very important. Tans look good, but they are dangerous and hard to do during winter. I suppose I could use tan lotion... or not. I think what I need most is plastic surgery. No I don't. What I need most is freckle remover, a light tan, and a weight - lifting program. That's the male beauty wish- list. ------------------ No longer mourn for me when I am dead Than you shall hear the surly sudden bell Give warning to the world that I am fled From this vile world, with vilest worms to dwell. -Shakespeare IP: Logged |

well...when I sleep..I tie all of my hair back...I wash my face with a milky cleanser from The body Shop and then I take a cotton ball and saturate it with a toner that contains sayilic acid (I think that's how you spell it) and pat my "T Zone" with it...I was told you should never "swab" your face with toner on a cotton ball because all it does is move bacterial around on your face and it could even cause additional breakouts.I drink a TON of water and I moisturize every night...I find I need a heavier cream like Lancome's intensive night treatment in the winter and a lighter moisturizer int he summer I use a chammomile lotion on the thinner skin around my eyes. I wear moisturizer with an SPF of at LEAST 15 every day. I wash my hair with Brazil Nut Shampoo from the body shop...it's for color treated hair (I have a ton of gray hair that I'm waaaaay too young to have) and I condition with a product by Tigi called "Dumb Blonde" but I use this only on the ends...not at the scalp. I also use a clarifying shampoo every other week. I wash my body with a cocoa butter wash and I use cocoa butter as body lotion IP: Logged |

Finance chick- sounds like you must smell pretty good! cocoa butter is so good for your skin! thanks for sharing all your tips!Queen of Sheeba- first thanks for coming on this thread- I think it is wonderful to have a guy here! And is there any way I could convince you that your freckles are just fine and you don't need to remove them?? I say this because I adore freckles, I think they are so cute! My mom is covered in them (obviously she is not the Mexican half of me) and she told me as a kid she read that lemon juice would rid her of freckles, put it all over, and it itched really really bad. And to make matters worse it didn't help them go away at all! I think there is manly makeup! Have you looked! Mystique- Thanks. Quitting is easier than I thought. I only really want a cigarette when I'm drinking, but I am refraining. I just found that you have to want to quit. Plus, for the first few weeks, I kept an old pack with me b/c I knew that if I threw it out, I'd panic and have to run to the store to buy another pack. I eventually gave them away. Chewing gum (Juicy Fruit-yum) is helping, and little psychological games. I really don't want to smoke anymore. I also didn't tell anyone at first b/c I thought that would be too much pressure-too many eyes on me, you know? Anyway, let me know how (or if) you like scrub!Fajita- I'm healing nicely, thank you. It was cosmetic (ah, you know us and ankles...). QueenofSheeba- There;s absolutely nothing wrong with Freckles! (except that you may have to be more careful in the sun) I admit, I only get a few in the summer...on my nose and cheeks...but I don;t think there's anything wrong with them at all. Financechick- Hey, both of our names end with "chick". 'Course an old teacher recommended this name to me as "Oxy"=air and I have a lot of air in my chart...anyway...back to my original point. I've heard over and over that Sacylic (or however it's spelled) acid should be used sparingly. It's very drying (unless you're prone to break-outs and have oily skin). Before i discovered Mario Badescu, I used to use an antiseptic cleanser from Neutrogena-it's a clear plastic bottle that says "Antiseptic Cleanser" and it's alcohol-free (another important factor for me, since alcohol unecessarily dries your skin). I used the one for sensitive skin and it is very gentle. The toner I use from MB is also alcohol-free, as is my cleanser. Foaming cleansers are also very drying. There is one thing from the Body Shop that I used to like-the Lip Scuff (I always have dry lips and when I'd use that, I would put some Kiehls Lip Balm #1 on and ooh la la smooth lips). ------------------ "What lies behind us and lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us." -Ralph Waldo Emerson IP: Logged |

Hi, Fajita, hi, everybody! I don't really have anything new to share but I just wanted to tell QueenofSheba that freckles are so very very cute! Everything can be turned into your own advantage, freckles too! Oh yes, this is probably stupid and you probably all know this already, but: if you have swollen eyes from (for example) crying all night, put ice cubes on them and the swelling goes down (chamomile does not help all that much). I think this is useful mostly for women...

The Fajita and Oxychick..one of you spoke of loving avacoado's but not eating them as much because of your cholesterol....you should INDULGE in avocado as it is RICH in monoUNSATURATED fat which can help LOWER your cholesterol....so make up a batch of gucamole and enjoy!!!I also forgot to tell another beauty treatment....I put a think..rich shea butter lotion on my hands and wear cotton gloves over it and go to bed..you can do the same thing with your feet...and in the morning..your skin is soooooo soft. As far as the salyic acid..I use it on my "T-zone" which tends to be oilier....it works great for me...though I only do this every ohter night before bed. IP: Logged |
