I have one of those cyst-like ones right now, and it's being persistent. Not sure what that means. Could it be a real cyst? Fortunately it's below my goatee, so it's not terribly apparent.

AG, it's probably nothing to worry about. Lotus is right, toothpaste works too. I read that somewhere and tried it. Doesnt work everytime for some reason though. Maybe it depends on what type of toothpaste it is........I think it should be plain old regular toothpaste. That should dry it right up.

Main dietry sources of adult acne:

-Chocolate
-Fatty dairy products, especially cheese
-Transfats, especialy partially hydronated oils (huge offender - this often triggers cystic ance)
-Not drinking enough plain water
-Not enough fiber
-too much sugar

Other causes:

-Candida, or too much yeast in the body (can be treated with herbal remedies, or just eating a lot of ginger, parsely, garlic and oregano and avoiding excess sugar and fats) - if you tend to get yeast infections or have ance in other parts of body, including the back, butt and around the genital area, this may be the main cause
-Stress (of course)
-Not enough physical exercise (helps your body naturally rid itself of icky stuff that collects and causes acne)
-Poor hygiene
-Excessive cleansing of skin or use or harsh cleansers

Herbs, vitamins and supplements that can help with acne and healthier skin:

- Garlic
- Oregano
- Parsley
- Ginger
- Cayanne/capsium
- Grape seed extract
- CoEnzyme Q10
- Omega 3 fatty acids
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin D
- Vitamin K

Also helpful:

- drink plenty of water, especially with a little freshly squeezed lemon juice
- a fiber supplement
- Liquid Chorophyll
- Liquid Benonite
- Acidophilus supplement
* these will help keep your colon clean and healthy, and a clean, healthy colon advents many health problems, including acne

OTC Ance products I've found that works best for that cystic acne:

Neutrogena's Clear pore Daily Mask/Cleaner: use at the first hint of a cyst forming, by applying cream to the area ONLY, leave for five minutes then wash off - repeat daily until cyst goes away. Stop using if it irritates skin too much

Queen Helena's Mint Julep Masque: less intense, and works less quickly but does work. Good for blackheads and whiteheads too.

For cystic ance, the best thing is to prevent it reoccuring, which is easier said than done. I have a problem with it too, but can go without breakouts for a good while if I'm vigilant with the precautions. But if I start munching on those snacks foods with transfats (club crackers are the worst for me) or eating too much cream cheese or chocolate, I know what to expect by the following week.

great thread!
I'll need to read this much closer. Over the past few months I have had a severe break out of cysts (I'm 42!) and this is way worse than when I was young. I'm left with tons of scars and I keep breaking out!!! Any suggestions on how to minimize these patchy brown/red acne scars time??? microdermabrasion?? any product ideas? It's absolutely awful and has made my self-esteem shoot way down.

i experiment with natural facials
i use plain oatmeal in hot water
to wash my face
i use the liquid of a mildly steeped (warm water not hot)white and green tea bag
to rub on my face then with out drying i rub a small bit of raw virgin coconut oil on top to seal in mosture
once a week i take a teeny tiny smudge of pure vitamin c powder and rub it into my skin mixed with coconut oil and then rinse
once or twice a week i mix plain yoghurt with active dry yeast and apply as a mask for 20 minutes then rinse
i exfoliate with sugar or a special microdermabrasion powder once a week followed with my oatmeal/ tea routine
the yeast yoghurt mask is good for acne
if i have a doozy i will dab it with tea tree oil
drink lotsa water eat losta fresh veggies and fruits
eat lotsa yoghurt
yoga
i love the idea of using things i can buy at the grocery store.saves money and it's safe too.
i have pale very sensitive skin so i thought someone might find these recipes helpful.

*****OOPS! I see GeminiNymph already recommended this! Do check it out though. It does help!*****

Another very good spot treatment is Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque. You can get it super-cheap at the drugstore/discount store. Just apply a small amount right to the pimple before going to bed and it will most likely be diminished by morning. Hope this helps!
