Has anybody on here ever been on a raw food diet? I've been seriously thinking about doing it but I have one major concern which is not getting enough vitamins and minerals. I'm also worried about getting too thin. I like my weight now and I'm healthy but a raw food diet is very low in fat and I don't want to lose alot of weight. Does anybody have any tips for remaining healthy while on this diet? Thanks for your help!! IP: Logged |

I think its the best diet ever, and for optimal nutrition just supplement with some of the many super-foods that are available likeBee Pollen which has all amino acids the bod needs and has vit b12 which is deficient in many vege's & vegans, also has alot of protein, which I think is way overrated anyway. other powerful super-foods that I use are Maca, Spirulina, Barley-grass powder, Camu-camu, Suma, Purple Corn Powder, Cacao~ nibs, powder & butter, coconut oil and hemp among other things and I kid you not eating Superfood like this turns you into a Superbeing, it gets your creative juices flowing rapidly and gives you an abundance of energy, makes you happier as your thoughts become purer and therefore your experiences are too, brings you back to nature in loads of ways eg's for me: foraging and losing a fear of insects, intense interest in sunset & rise. better karma, better body, oh the list goes on&on, everything just keeps getting better, its gr8. its an evolutionary thing and diff for every1~ u'l kno ur-self if it for u~ seems to be tho as its becoming so popular~ loads are waking up to it & leaving the SAD (standard american diet) behind & especailly u living in Cali thats an ideal place to do it. there and Hawaii~ the biz, right now I'm glimpsing my potential & future oh so exiting, I'm always at the right place & reading the right materials etc, its like all my cells are waking up~turning on & I'm feeling really alive.I don't have an underweight problem but I read that when you're eating this way for a while (few months) your weight balances out, u achieve ur ideal body weight, overweights lose weight & underweights gain it. I kno it's gr8, sounds too good to be true, but thats part of this lifestyle shud u so choose to LIVE it, it is that good and even better, its just a matter of stepping back n2 the flow of life and eating a Raw diet is the way to do it, so do it ur worth it~it's easy just flow ~ B A flow~er! xx IP: Logged |

Hey Rubina,Everything you just wrote sounds really great and I actually can't wait to get started. About the weight thing, I'm sure you're absolutely right! I guess I was just focusing on eating nothing but fruits and vegetables because I have very little income at the moment and I know this diet is kind of expensive. Where do you buy your super foods? Is there a really good web site you can recommend? Thanks IP: Logged |

Hi Kismet*it doesn't have to be expensive so don't let that put you off & ur health is priceless. look into ways of being more prosperiety conscious, the best book I have ever on the subject is by Lynn Grabhorn called 'excuse me your life is waiting'.for me, it summed up the 'secret' & 'law of attraction' books in a clearer, more tangible and applicable way ~ emphizing the importance of how you feeling relation to attracting your desires. also, the more I eat like this the more I am realizing and accepting the benevolence of the universe, in a big way. it's a matter of trusting in the abundance of all there is, we can be our own worst enemy's when we let doubt and negativity creep n2 our minds but it doesn't have to be like that. my own background is humble enough & I'm working on it & its working! so try to trust that u'l be provided for ~ u'l be glad u did. In the meantime u cud ask people with friut trees who are usually happy to oblige when asked to for fruit, u cud be doing them a favor. go to farmer's markets at the end of the day when they are getting rid so u can pick up bargains. ask at ur local vegetarian/raw/health restaurant for any left over fruit and veg, for juicing, again u'l be doing them a favor, & go foraging.

A raw diet can actually be very high in fat, especially if you prefer raw gourmet recipes. (which is what I got into a couple of years ago)What you want to include if you are extreme Vata dosha, is plenty of avocado, cold pressed oils such as coconut oils, cacao butter, and olive oil. Nut butters and fruits such as durian and olives. You can actually keep or create your curves, especially in the winter with these foods. Below is a diet I actually paid for...its the 'beginner program' quote: GENERAL SAMPLE MENUS:BREAKFAST Daily Essentials: * 1/2 liter (quart) of water mixed with 1/2 tablespoon of MSM crystals Raw Choices: Any of the following types of fresh fruit: * papaya, figs, grapes, berries, melons, apples, grapefruits, pineapple, etc. * A smoothie containing superfoods * A fruit salad Heated or Cooked Choices: * 1/4 liter (8 ounces) of herbal tea. Squeeze in fresh lemon if desired. Use fresh maple syrup or raw honey to sweeten. * Oatmeal (Steel-cut oats are best. * Oats contain the beauty mineral silicon) * Toast with coconut butter/oil or 1/2 avocado (made from whole grain bread or sprouted bread). * Toast is easier to digest than regular bread. LUNCH Raw Choices: * 1 shot (1-2 fluid ounces) of wheatgrass juice. (Wheatgrass tends to suppress the appetite.) * 1 liter (quart) of fresh vegetable juice containing at least 50% green vegetables. 50% apples or pears * One small leafy-green vegetable salad Guacamole: avocado, cilantro, olives, lime juice, tomatoes, onions, celtic sea salt, etc. * One durian (fresh, if possible…frozen is okay, if fresh cannot be found). * One whole durian is a big meal! * Cantaloupe (contains a high amount of beta-carotene and antioxidants) Heated or Cooked Choices: * One sandwich containing toasted sprouted grain bread, avocado, clover and radish sprouts, diced red bell pepper, sliced olives, onion and diced cucumber. * Rice (or bean) burrito containing lettuce, onions, lime juice and tomatoes. No cheese. Animal-Based Foods: * Including animal-based foods in one's diet is an individual choice. David Wolfe does not include them in his diet. Fish and wild game are more mineral-rich, contain better quality oils, and leaner protein. * Goat's milk is much more digestible than cow's milk. Most of the world's population is allergic to cow's milk. * Smoked fish (only from clean, organic sources - not herring, capelin, menhaden, anchovetta or cod) * Goat's milk (preferably unpasteurized) Goat cheese (preferably unpasteurized) * Goat kefir (preferably unpasteurized) Goat yogurt
----Go with what works for you, you will know when you have eaten not enough or enough fat, sugars and greens. An all raw diet wont work for the Vata dosha type right away, eat what you need to maintain a healthy weight, and that may be only 80% raw. IP: Logged |

I was fiercely against raw diet because I tend to have a cold body, but in the summer of last year, after doing lots of research, I decided to give it a try, and I felt instantly better. Since then, I have been raw on and off, and as of now, I have become 75% raw and it feels great. There is a free Rawkathon going on right now, with interviews by raw food specialists, and it's free to listen: http://rawkathon.com/access/free/ Today, until 8 pm EST, you can listen to Virginia Boutenko and to Nomi Shannon. Each interview will be available for free for 24 hrs after first airing.

Hi BelageLucky you live in Cali with that cold bod of yours & it's full of raw cafe's & stuff. glad you decided on the raw food diet, the benefits are too good to miss out on. I listened to Nomi & Virginia interviews today, both were interesting. I missed the David Wolfe & Doug Graham ones, were they any good I wonder? am looking foward to Karen Knowler one b/c she lives nearest to me and her advice is the most practical for me. I love the guy who hosts it Kevin Gianni he's so enthusiastic IP: Logged |
