Hello Stawr.

Sassafras is not spicy. It was originally used to make root beer. In the 1970's. negative propaganda came out about it being carcinogenic to rabbits, a finding that was never validated. In the past 15 years the propaganda has changed from rabbits to rats.

Thank you Pathseeker.

I have cut down a lot on caffeine since finishing college.

Plus I want to just conk out at night, so I can get right to work at 8am. Plus my neighbors make so much noise at night. I am less bothered by it when I skip caffeine in the afternoons and evenings.

I'm starting my morning with an organic energy drink right now. Brand called Marquis. Made with green tea and yerba mate.
The citrus yuzo flavor is far more bearable than the ginger mango. I had to dump that one out yesterday.

Hello Stawr,

Interesting topic!

I didn't start drinking coffee until I was around 19 because I wasn't allowed to drink it till 16, and then after that, I never really got anything from it.

Once I became vegetarian at 19, I noticed a natural increase in energy levels, so I touted that I didn't need coffee. But soon enough, I got a hard physical-labor job that sometimes lasted 10 hours a day, so I started drinking a tiny bit of coffee every time I had a long day, and I found that about a quarter cup would keep me rocking for the whole day. I still skipped coffee on my days off.

I tried to keep up that trend, but some jobs needed me to move faster than I was already, so I drank coffee to speed up even more. I dated people who drank coffee daily, and since I liked coffee, I would drink it too, so of course, between that and work, I developed a dependency, though an enjoyable one.

A couple of years later, I was introduced to yerba mate, which I loved almost as much as coffee, so I would often switch between them, using yerba mate to take a break from coffee. I've also used green tea as a break or an afternoon pick-me-up instead of having more coffee.
My only issue with coffee is the acidity and effect on my stomach, so these substitutions have been helpful. I once quit coffee for three months straight just because I realized I had stopped enjoying it, and I needed a reset. I drank green tea, black tea, and yerba mate during that time, but I noticed that too much green and black tea gave me heartburn for some reason.

I recently discovered guayusa, which is similar to yerba mate but seems gentler on my stomach.

I generally have drunk coffee black more often than not, and frequently with spices added (cardamom, anise, and cinnamon). The spices make me think of Turkey, where I'd love to visit someday. I also find the earthy flavor motivating and comforting. I rarely sweeten my coffee because I find it cuts down on the earthy, fiery flavor, but now I add cream most days.

I'm currently a student, so I probably wouldn't quit coffee until after I graduate, but I'm thinking about trying a break from it again, switching to guayusa. I haven't yet tried guayusa alone, so I want to experiment sometime soon. Probably over the winter break.

In the meantime, coffee is awesome!

Hey my energy drink has guayusa in it. I had that instead of coffee this morning.

I loooove my coffee. I drink it black or with a splash of cream. I also drink a lot of tea.

In Ayurveda there are three Doshas or body constitutions. It is an interesting and enlightening subject if you are interested! Some constitutions do not react well to coffee/caffeine as they run “hot” (pitta) while others have a positive reaction to coffee/caffeine (kapha). This is a very high level explanation but just to illustrate.

As for me, I am going to go pour myself another cup...

Ohhhh my gosh I cannot do just one cup of coffee with my Tuesday Thursday pre school class. They are emotional vampires. I have never felt so blunt and b1+chy in what I say as a teacher before in my three years. The break room has been out of coffee for a long time. I think my director finally got the hint today that coffee needs to be in the break room.

My sister answered my prayers and got me a cold brew coffee maker for Christmas. I'll let you all know how I like it.

I love using it! I will still buy store bought cold brews and energy drinks still. I will give the cold brew maker a break and use it to brew ice teas. It's amazing for both.

My Monday/Wednesday/Friday class is so GOOD. That I have been only having one cold brew in the morning and that's it. My Tues/Thurs class is the one I caff myself up for though.

I got a coldbrew pack at Costco that should last me almost two weeks! On the weekends I add Kulua to it.

I also bought my self paper travel mugs so there is less focus on dishes and more focus on the rest of the apartment.

Probably a co-dependency

I've been trying my coffee essential oil in my diffuser and warmer.

I joked that this is the wedding planning essential oil.

I was curious to look up the occult benefits too.
It is said to speed up our spells and intentions.
It is suppose to elevate our consciousness some tribes believed. (that makes sense with people being more sociable in the morning)
I've also heard guys on the radio talk about "coffee goggles" meaning that we are more likely socialize with people we wouldn't normally socialize with in a work environment.

"Got a spell that’s lagging behind your timetable? Sprinkle coffee grounds on the altar to “speed up” your intentions and get things done faster." http://www.moodymoons.com/2018/07/16/10-ways-to-use-coffee-in-witchcraft/

I wanted to leave apartment in 6th month. I am now leaving apartment 1 a month from now? Coincidence?
So maybe if your aren't careful it can be faster than you anticipate.

So I spilled about a pound of coffee in the backseat of the car last week... upside: it smells great! Downside: what if I get a speeding ticket?

I certainly hope not with the speeding ticket
Chanterelle.

When I'm driving in the morning I have to have at least more than half my coffee sipped to go a decent speed in the morning. If a car is ridding my arse, I'll be like "give me a break, I just woke up"

Yesss! I'm a Kapha and coffee has definitely had more positive than negative effects on me. I find that I have to make sure I'm being properly nourished in my diet and that I don't eat sugary things with my coffee, because that's when the negative effects start to take hold. But mostly it's awakened a lot of motivation and interest in life and the world... it was actually part of what helped me move out of depression too. The foundation of that was meditation and self-awareness practices, but the coffee, unlike tea and other stimulants, feels so much more grounding to me and it gave me more of an interest in worldly pursuits, which is what I needed.
