I remember back in the early 2000s that MAD magazine listed one of the scariest things about the the new millennium is that people like Rush Limbaugh were now considered moderates. But the black/white view can be interesting. For example in about a month of each other I told 2 political fanatics about the same thing regarding individual liberty and was called a "right wing extremist" by a Clintonista (she helped get Clinton elected and was trying to get Gore elected in 2000 at the time) and a "Leftist loony" by a Rush Limbaugh dittohead. I asked a mentor how that was possible and she said it was a "frog spell." By simply labeling me as such they didn't have to think about what I said (thus my words become "meaningless croaks" to them) and both could simply dismiss everything I said as mindless propaganda (and thus operate on their own mindless propaganda without having to think about it). MOST people are neither extreme conservatives like the limbaugh cult, nor communists, as is suggested by said cult's devotees. * i am not an aqua, but it is one of the ties that bind my chart.
I never said that there were only liberals and conservatives, obviously things are more complicated than that, but simply meant that, in general, GU is heavily dominated by conservatives, and AR is where more liberal people tend to go. I was simply pointing out that GU has one type of audience and AR has a different type, and that the issues focused on by people who frequent each forum tend to be drawn along certain lines. It was just an observation. IP: Logged |

He is very conservative, but so are most Americans, so it's not extreme.------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark IP: Logged |

Is there anyone on the American airwaves that you'd consider a right wing extremist? IP: Logged |

No one that I know of advocates a police state.------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark IP: Logged |

Who advocates a police state, at least openly? Party politics is all about the right spin and pswywar, not about dealing with people honestly and ethically. But I can accept that Rush is a moderate compared to Mussolini. Of course if we're gonna include the rest of the world (and stay consistent), then even mainstream liberals in the USA are pretty right wing themselves. IP: Logged |

Regardes, just saw this again...i didn't mean you when i said that. I was thinking of the countless people who think one must be all one or the other. Most people are smorgasborders, they like some of this and some of that. This is the problem with talkshow hosts , on BOTH sides of the aisle who brand people and parties as if they were uniform entities and not many people with many, sometimes conflicting, ideas. Too many people view politics as a religion..when really it is a process, or should be. Same root as Polite, ie a way of getting along and getting things done in "society". IP: Logged |

rush limbaugh scares me . here are a few of his quotes. “From this day forward, somebody propose it, liberals should not be allowed to buy guns. It’s just that simple. Liberals should have their speech controlled and not be allowed to buy guns. I mean if we want to get serious about this, if we want to face this head on, we’re gonna have to openly admit, liberals should not be allowed to buy guns, nor should they be allowed to use computer keyboards or typewriters, word processors or e-mails, and they should have their speech controlled. If we did those three or four things, I can’t tell you what a sane, calm, civil, fun-loving society we would have. Take guns out of the possession, out of the hands of liberals, take their typewriters and their keyboards away from ‘em, don’t let ‘em anywhere near a gun, and control their speech. You would wipe out 90% of the crime, 85 to 95% of the hate, and a hundred percent of the lies from society.” ~Rush Limbaugh, The Rush Limbaugh Show, January 2011 “Let the unskilled jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do — let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work.” ~Rush Limbaugh, radio show, Fall 1993 “The ocean will take care of this on its own if it was left alone and left out there. It’s natural. It’s as natural as the ocean water is.” –Rush Limbaugh, on the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and refuting science, May 3, 2010 “Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women access to the mainstream of society.” ~Rush Limbaugh, The Rush Limbaugh Show, August 12, 2005 “Exercise freaks … are the ones putting stress on the health care system.” ~Rush Limbaugh, accusing people who exercise of being the reason why health care costs are so high, June 12, 2009 IP: Logged |

You have to be careful about pulling quotes. They could be out of context or entirely fake altogether. But in regards to the oil spill, Rush was right--a certain bacteria in the ocean devoured it and rendered it safe. Mother Nature was prepared. IP: Logged |
