They're opposed to most liberal ideas (and consider them apologists for capitalism that believe wrongly that capitalism can be tamed) as well as conservative ones. Though fun story, IMO. I was just discovering politics (as in ideology) for the first time when I was 17 and I was reading some anarchist authors when a guy who said he was a conservative tried explaining conservatism to me (he was the rural, survivalist kind who believed in bare minimum government, sometimes called a "minarchist," not exactly what many here would think of when they think of a conservative, and very independent, refusing to own a TV, and is probably a huge fan of Ron Paul today) basically said people should not depend on the government for anything. So I asked--sincerely and innocently--"So the ultimate conservative is an anarchist?" It threw him for a loop and the look on his face when I asked that caused others (including 2 anarchists present) to laugh at how flustered he got. He did explain himself better, and I remember we got to talking about Thomas Paine, Jefferson, Thoreau, and even Tolstoy as well, so it was all good. I learned a lot more in discussions like that than I ever did in a government school. IP: Logged

Moderation, I can respect; at least more moderate types are willing to compromise and aren't extremist in how they approach things or in how they express their views. Extremism annoys me in most cases. Granted, there are a small group of issues on which I would not compromise, but on a lot of other things, I think that moderate liberals and moderate conservatives could reach agreements and actually get things done and find fair and balanced solutions. I think that too many people get too passionate and uncivilized about politics; if people would calm down, be reasonable, think things through, and try to negotiate on most things, more would get done and there would be better solutions, I think. It's not a realistic dream, I admit, and it will never happen, but if people would approach political things with their heads and leave all of the other stuff out of it, I do think that things would be better. katatonic unregistered	posted August 04, 2012 03:44 PM well, aquarians can understand the complexity of political stances, but many cannot. it is ludicrous...to me...that anyone can divide the entire population into conservative or NOT conservative (all other shades of grey, green and purple MUST be LIBERALS, or by another name, crazy)! MOST people are neither extreme conservatives like the limbaugh cult, nor communists, as is suggested by said cult's devotees. * i am not an aqua, but it is one of the ties that bind my chart.
