It is sad such protection has to become law. It doesn`t say much of us as evolved beings. ------------------ Partial truth~the seeds of wisdom~can be found in many places...The seeds of wisdom are contained in all scriptures ever written… especially in art, music, and poetry and, above all, in Nature.

Well atheists have to put up with Christianity imposed on them in many ways; taxes to support their churches and their influence printed on our money, in our courts, our pledge, and the list goes on. Under most circumstances one cannot even run for public offices if they are an atheist. Other religions are of course against atheists; but in the USA Christianity is the most pervasively aggressive.IP: Logged |

Or moreso in some cases as they don`t hold the rigid bias`s. Hey Lexx! Most are afraid to go public. I am sure there are a few here at LL believe it or not. As for: quote: Originally posted by Randall: "as morally upright as any religious person"
I personsally know of and know, percentage wise; more morally upright atheists than folks of any religions.IP: Logged |

I don't care for atheists usually. They are obnoxious and arrogant people, atleast the ones I have met have been that way. They are far more dogmatic than any religious person I have ever met and I live in the bible belt. A good example is one of my best friend's older brother. This guy is the typical "in your face" atheist. When his father died we were all meeting at the family home and he took the opportunity to get on his soapbox and bash Christianity when people were grieving and quoting bible verses for comfort. And he complained about being persecuted by christians. He joined the military and ended up hating it because everyone "supposedly" treated him like crap because he was college educated and an atheist. I don't believe that at all because I know the guy too well ... He probably ran his mouth and offended everyone he came into contact with by ridiculing them because they were religious. I have also seen enough from other atheists to believe they bring alot of the "persecution" upon themselves. If they would keep their opinions to themselves and stop ridiculing people for believing in God they wouldn't have any problems and people would be cool with them. IP: Logged |

Then again AquaG, some people are just jerks. Be they religious or non religious. They use their chosen platform to preach to or against others because that`s their ego food. ------------------ Partial truth~the seeds of wisdom~can be found in many places...The seeds of wisdom are contained in all scriptures ever written… especially in art, music, and poetry and, above all, in Nature.

Some of many of my personal experiences with religion; in these cases; Christian, infringing on my rights and privacy When my husband and I got our marriage license, all we wanted was it signed by a judge or a person qualified to do so. The court house totally refused and said we had to take the Christian ceremony. We checked around and that was the word from several legal professionals qualified to officiate a marriage license. We finally got a spiritualist minister to do it but even though watered down a lot; the words she blabbered over us were still totally against our desires and still Christian based. I am not permitted to serve jury duty or be involved in any court related things; or give testimony and so forth; because I will not swear on a bible. I was charged with contempt in court more than once and threatened by judges and other legal professionals because I was ordered to swear on a bible and adamantly refused to do so because it was an infringement on my rights and against my morals and religion does not belong in a courthouse. I would say for example: quote: So you are ordering me to swear on a Christian bible to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. Why are you ordering me to LIE/COMMIT PERJURY BY SWEARING ON A THING I DO NOT BELIEVE IN AND A GOD I DO NOT BELIEVE IN? S0....YOU ARE TELLING ME I MUST DO THE CH5RISTIAN THING AND GO AGAINST MY PERSONAL MORALS AND LIE SO THAT YOU CAN, IN YOUR O[PINIONS, BY YOUR RULES, GET ME TO SWEAR TO TELL THE TRUTH ETC ETC ETC.
Yes that is an invasion of my rights and forcing me to do their religious swearing in a place of legal not religious business. b]How would a Christian feel if they were forced to swear/take oath, over a Satanic bible or the Koran?[/b] I was punished severely in school, both high school and elementary because I would not say/take the pledge with the Christian words in it. I could recount many other examples but I doubt those who need to understand will not hear me, so why bother? Additionally; atheists do not go door to door trespassing and trying to force their beliefs on Christians. Most atheists avoid Christians unless confronted by them. I DO NOT GIVE A FLYING FIG IF ANYONE IS A CHRISTIAN; JUST LEAVE ME OUT OF YOUR DOINGS AND GET THE FRAKE OUT OF THE LEGAL AND POLITICAL AND PUBLIC EDUCATION SYSTEMS! STOP INVADING MY WORLD AND I WOULD BE VERY HAPPY TO IGNORE YOURS. OK; enough for now. Nothing I say will fix the problem. I just posted this: quote: the city of Madison, Wisconsin is now including atheists as a protected class http://www.patheos.co m/blogs/friendlyatheist/2015/02/03/madison-wisconsin-may-include-atheists-as-a-protected-class-in-expanded-anti-discrimination-bill/
because it was nice to see such a ruling. Maybe there is a chance that there will someday really be a total separation of church and state and so forth. IMAGINE THAT! IP: Logged |

That`s sad yet interesting. Under what law or premise did they use to do so? ------------------ Partial truth~the seeds of wisdom~can be found in many places...The seeds of wisdom are contained in all scriptures ever written… especially in art, music, and poetry and, above all, in Nature.

They said it was the American way; and that only Christian officiated marriages are recognized as valid in Ohio. They said we could have any kind of celebration just like anyone; be they Pagan, Jew, and so forth; but the officiating and signing of the marriage license must be legally recognized done by Christian codes as it had always been done. Yeah weird.IP: Logged |

Thank you. It is creepy but on welfare most of the "help" out there is linked to Christianity one way or other and the moment they find out folks are not Christian; well they treat them badly or ignore them or intentionally mess up their various welfare applications, like medical and heap and all. We lost our medical etc. for a few months while fighting them. Finally a supervisor fixed it for us. We cannot prove that the person of "faith" screwed us over; but it happened. Just glad a person who did not discriminate came to our rescue with profuse apologies. Even food pantries turn folks away with weird excuses. Since most of the people in the legal system around here and in politics are Christian; there is too often no treating non-Christians fairly. Hospital workers too Drs., nurses, etc., are usually nasty if they find out anyone is not of their faith. We try our best to stay clear of religious folks.
