Yes Tree rats are real.
quote:
Because the Roof Rats climb well, common nesting sites are above the ground. They will nest in trees, attics, voids along the roof line, and in ceilings. Like squirrels, they enter homes and are found in attics. ... Roof Rats are suspicious like Norway Rats.

And the southern version:

quote:
Palm Rat Facts. Palm rats, also known as roof rats, black rats, ship rats or house rats, are the leading rodent pest in Florida and in other tropical climates. They are climbers and prefer to nest off the ground in trees like palms, which is how they got their common name. Fruit is one of their main food sources.

The tee/roof ratrs are a bit smaller than the Norway rat.
Additionally another creature referred to as a tree rat is actually any breed of squirrel;
but especially the smaller elongated skinny bodied types called a red tailed squirrel.
We have no electricity in much of our home because of their (and chipmunks) destructiveness.
quote:
it’s possible that a squirrel is climbing on your roof because that’s how it enters your attic.

quote:
If you suspect that a squirrel might be living in your attic, that’s definitely something to worry about. Squirrels are known for chewing wires and destroying attic insulation—something no homeowner wants to deal with.
Both squirrels and tree rats will also at times rip roofing shingles off ones' roof.

A squirrel is just a rodent with a furry tail.

Both squirrels and raccoons are too destructive to me.
I suppose if raised as pets it is different.

I adore Opossums and Skunks!
I just wish wild skunks were not stinky. Both creatures are gentle and of sweet dispositions.

Also Squirrels and groundhogs are both of the squirrel family.
And both; along with chipmunks who are also members of the squirrel family; can be very destructive.

The rat and mice are from a different family of rodents.
And did you know that a rabbit/hare is not actually a rodent?

Yep, I knew about rabbits. On FB, a raccoon was raised from baby and thinks he's a dog.

With the lack of mullberries, our coon population is way down.

They carry so many nasty diseases and drop off a few fleas or hundreds to start a family on my animals

Today? 95
