I thought this would be the best way to post my spectacular from scratch Red Velvet Cake recipe. Will do so later. What's your fave recipe? ------------------ "Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia." Charles Schultz IP: Logged |

Green bean casserole. I make this on Thanksgiving and Christmas 1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans 1 red bell pepper 1/2 white onion 3-4 slices bacon 1 tablespoon diced garlic 1 can Campbell's cream of mushroom soup (10.5 ounce) 1 can Campbell's cheddar cheese soup (10.5 ounce) 1 can French's fried onions Salt and pepper to taste Shredded cheddar cheese Snap ends off of beans and then break into bite-sixed pieces. Boil green beans to desired texture. I boiled then for about 8 minutes with plenty of salt. Drain and dunk into very cold water to stop the cooking process so the beans don't get mushy. Dry the beans by spreading onto paper towels. Place paper towels over the top to dry further. Let those sit while you cut up the onion, red pepper and bacon. Cook these together in a frying pan along with the garlic until the onion is carmelized.
Combine the mixture with the green beans in a large bowl (include any grease created by the bacon). Add the cream of mushroom soup and cheddar cheese soup and mix. Add desired salt and pepper. Texture will be very thick. Place into baking pan - I used a pan approximately 12 x 8 inches. Cook in the oven at 350 degrees for about 30 or 35 minutes until bubbly. Cover with a layer of shredded cheese and then a nice thick layer of French's fried onions on top and put back in the oven for 10 minutes or until the onions are golden brown. Feel free to eat! We kept this warm on top of a hot oven for another couple hours when we got to our friend's house and it tasted great. IP: Logged |

Summer and winter give different flavours and fruits. My journal is in dutch, buth I try to translate two of my recipes as best as i can.Broccoli soup: (also for the vegetarians among us) Soup pan 2 spoons of olive oil. 1 onion. cut it in little pieces. Fry it with the oil in the pan for five minutes. 1 patatoe. Cut in four pieces and add it to the onion. 300 grams broccoli. add it also. 1 litre of water. Put it in the pan. 2 chicken stock cubes. Add it to the water. Boil everything for 15 minutes. Blender it with a mixer. Add two spoons with sour cream (creme fraiche) Add salt and pepper as you like. Quick dessert: Take a banana and cut it in lenght in half. Fry with little oil in a pan for four minutes. Turn it. Put a ice cream on a plate. Any flavour you like. Tip: flavour straciatella. Add the baked banana and voila dessert is ready. IP: Logged |

Female Cancers make great cooks. That's one way they express their nurturing side, so they learn to cook early in life, because they love using it as a means to show love to their family.------------------ "Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. No! Don't eat those microwave meals! Not only do they assault your tastebuds with food that tastes like cardboard, but they're cooked in plastic. You shouldn't microwave food in plastic, it's cancer-causing. And the food has who-knows-what kinds of chemicals in it! IP: Logged |

The Most Amazing Spectacular Cake In The Universe--Red Velvet From Scratch:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease (Crisco) and sprinkle flour on two cake pans. Grease and flour all of the sides also. Teflon cake pans are best, but you will still have to grease and flour the pans. You can use a knife on the sides of the cake pans when you dump out the cake.
Sift the following ingredients (with a sifter) into a large bowl:
2 cups plain all-purpose (NOT self-rising) flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon cocoa 1/2 cup of sugar
Then add the other (wet) ingredients in a separate bowl and stir with a spoon:
2 cups Wesson oil 1 oz bottle red food coloring 2 whole eggs mixed up first with a fork 1 cup buttermilk 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract Mix on low. Slowly pour in dry ingredients as you continue mixing. Then mix on high for about a minute. It will be a thick red consistency. Pour even amounts into two cake pans. Bake 30 mins (or until done). It will move away from the sides of the pan. Let cool completely before applying icing.
Home-Made Cream Cheese Frosting:
Mix with a mixer 16 oz of soft Philadelphia cream cheese (room temperature) with 1 stick of Parkay margarine, not Bluebonnet (or you can use real butter). You should mash it together with a spoon first. It's easier to mix if you cut the margarine in slices. Mix on low until creamy, and then mix on high a few seconds. Add a box of powdered sugar a little at a time while mixing on low. Then mix on high for a minute. Stir in 1 cup of finely chopped with a choppper pecans (2 cups are better--about a 10 ounce bag of pecans) and mix together on low before putting it on a cooled two-layered cake (and on top of the bottom layer). OMG, the pecans make this icing! Use a few toothpicks to hold the top layer secure and keep it from sliding as you put on the icing. Icing the bottom layer first, of course. And be a Democrat with the icing, not a Republican. In other words, be very liberal, not conservative! You have lots of extra icing. ------------------ "Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia." Charles SchultzIP: Logged |

Wesson oil isn't so bad. It's the healthy kind. And it's spread out over a whole cake. Makes it very moist. nom nom nom ------------------ "Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia." Charles Schultz IP: Logged |

The brand doesn't matter. Just a small 1 oz bottle. But make sure you use all-purpose flour. If you use self-rising, you will have a big mess.IP: Logged |
