Two friends gifted me apples from their trees in November. All knurled and pitted with worm holes, proof of organic. My juice extractor did not mind, so I combined the juice and froze them in containers over the winter. What a treat today when I removed them from stasis and gulped them, sipped them, swished them as if I were a like a wine connesieurre. I save vegetable juice the same way and use it as my vegetable soup base. Wish I had a stand alone freezer. What about you? Do you freeze or can, jar? IP: Logged |

I juice oranges, have never canned or jarred anything, I think it's because I've always been a City girl. IP: Logged |

She canned all sorts of things. It's a lost art. IP: Logged |

I like dehydrating to preserve. Takes a little more time, but less effort, and in the end you get an intense flavor burst from your bounty. IP: Logged |

I buy a lot of fruit so I end up freezing quite a bit of it for later consumption. Like you Pluto, I too dehydrate things. Actually, I do a lot of fruit leathers with over ripe bananas. To this day, I have never canned or jarred anything, but would really like to try. I love gardening and I think that preserving would come in handy for harvest time. Too bad I don't have neither the time nor the amount of space for gardening right now. ------------------ "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence." -- Carl Sagan IP: Logged |

You can also jar food as well, like soups or legume foods for example, not just fruit and vegetables. Well, I never do it, as there is always warm homemade food in the kitchen cooked by me every day.I do jar, though, the marmalades and the spoon sweets I make. IP: Logged |
