On tonight's menu:

Sweet and sour tamarind fish soup with sea bream and fish cakes (with finely chopped shallots and red chilli) that we made last weekend. A friend gave us two big fresh fish, it was best to strip the "meat" and make it into fish cakes.

This soup is served with rice vermicelli.

Sea bream is really tasty, light and delicate.

I don't often make this soup because it needs quite a lot of ingredients. But the Giant elephant ear plant I grow already gets quite big (we eat the spongy stalks/stems - after peeling off the outer skins), and we have some left-over fish stock, bean sprouts and half a pineapple. Perfect for this recipe.

Dessert: Sweet soup with lotus seed, snow fungus and longan.

When I visited the South, I got my first taste of Southern food and dang, it was so so so dang good. The barbecue - rich and flavorful, melt-in-your-mouth. I was like "What is this magic?????"
