This explains much in the way of compatability, because if your Chinese Signs are not compatible, you will still get along if your Inner Companions are. The Inner Companion can significantly alter the personality of the basic Chinese Sign...or it can reinforce it. When I say Sign, I mean your Chinese Sign. That combined with your Inner Companion denotes compatability.
