EXPLORING THE 9TH HOUSE © Sweet-scorpion July 24, 2012Key words: Peaceful drifting, wanderlust, fiery visions Power song: "Break on Through" by The Doors [with Sagittarius Jim Morrison!] "You know the day destroys the night Night divides the day Tried to run Tried to hide Break on through to the other side Break on through to the other side Break on through to the other side, yeah!" Special quotes: "Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth." --Buddha The 9th house is directly opposite the 3rd house, of basic Mercurial communications, verbal sparring, interactions with siblings and your neighborhood friends and classmates. The 9th house represents Sagittarius, the 9th sign of the zodiac. When we enter the 9th house, we're entering a door that leads us into a glowing, celestial star path. When we take two steps forward, mentally, we are taking a thousand steps ahead. Our mind becomes intensely broadened, open to new experiences, and willing to absorb the material of distant cultures and ideas. Whether this is accepted fully or the cause of anxiety depends on the planets posited in the house. Unlike the 3rd house, the 9th house is all about higher, more intense thinking. And in this house, we will take a more serious journey to discover our inner and outer truths as well. Jupiterian ideals reign supreme. Finding the absolute meaning of something is our goal in this house. We dig deeper, with a valiant spirit, to discover what lies beyond us and our smaller existence. Unlike the 8th house digging, where we dirty ourselves and face many challenges to find purity, truth and happiness, 9th house digging is a totally different story. We've overcome digging through wastelands and darkness to the bottom of our hearts and minds, and have reached purer grounds - but only to continue onward, to discover the prize that awaits us for conquering any 8th house darknesses we have successfully faced. For this article and discussion, I will use the Moon and the Saturn to juxtapose how two planets can operate so differently in this house. With a 9th house Moon we have one whose mind and heart is open to travel and distant journeys, many of them going on in the mind. Those with 9th house Moons often find themselves taking part in incredible mental journeys and fantasies that transport them from a mundane existence into a higher realm. It's no surprise that some with this placement, and other qualifiers for psychic activity, have had prophetic and symbolic, vivid dreams. Others with a 9th house Moon often enjoy writing their vivid ideas down onto paper, to express almost angelic beliefs in a way that is concrete, tangible and more easily expressed to others who might not have the same heart as an open doorway to the unknown and often, the fantastic or mystic (think, an Earth Moon). With Saturn here, however, we have one whose own rigid thinking patterns might prevent the heart from enjoying far away journeys, both physical and mental. It does not do well with circumstances where the concrete is not assured. With Sagittarius ruling the 9th, we are inclined to take a chance on our revered, higher ideals, to give our hearts and souls away into something greater, beyond us. But a 9th house Saturn is going to reject this almost corny ideal, not place a high value on physical and mental travel, and not have such a dangerous emotional investment in far-away dreams. (This placement doesn't mean you'll never travel or will not enjoy it, but there might be difficult circumstances around travel, or traveling far from home might come later to you in life.) 9th house ideals and the ability to give ourselves away to dreaming makes the 9th house Saturn person confused, anxious or even frustrated. Unlike the 9th house Moon person, the 9th house Saturn person will perhaps not take any joy in allowing their minds to drift, wander and go deeper without any stability or sense of time (and it's no surprise that 9H Moon people are often the most accomplished daydreamers, who can get something profitable out of daydreams). So, onto our discussion. What planets do you have in the 9th? How do they relate to your (boring, typical, or maybe pleasant) reality? What aspects do they make, and how do they play out for you? Get talking! ------------------ "Perfect love casts out fear." -Anthony de Mello IP: Logged |

When you check back Randall, we can definitely talk about what you have in the 9th and how it manifests for you. The 9th house is one of my favorite houses. Looking at my own 9th, since I have Saturn in the 3rd in my natal chart, my well-aspected 9th house Moon adds a lot of imagination to my personality. I've never fared well with confidence and concentration in regular academia but with extremely imaginative works like writing, art, screenplays, etc., my Earth Moon in the 9th makes me want to make my visions concrete. The 9th house definitely tells about how we daydream and how imaginative we are, I'd think. IP: Logged |

Aquarius on 9th house cusp Saturn in pisces in 9th retrogradeHmm. Well I haven't done any major traveling (out of country) but I traveled to different states a bit when I was really young. I do have a strong desire to travel though in life and depending on where I go to college I would like to study abroad. I'm still a youngin though so I don't think I have much to share concerning this placement yet :l Aspects: Sun opposition saturn 5'52 Uranus sextile saturn 5'44 Neptune sextile saturn 1'56 Asc trine saturn 5'01 Mc conjunct saturn 3'34 Juno square saturn 1'32 Pluto trine saturn 7'25 Mercury quincux saturn 0'58 True Node biquintile saturn 0'01 I also have an aspect to saturn by both my moon and mars but it's a sesquiquadrate at 2'22 and 2'44 so I don't know if it has an influence or not IP: Logged |

I have a packed 9th house with Mars, Mercury in Virgo, Uranus and Pluto in Libra there. I work in Higher education working for first generation college bound and at risk youth young adults. I have a passion for issues of diversity. I also love to travel. And I have been in quite a few bi-racial relationships. I was married once before and am now married for the second time(isn't there something about your second marriage being seen in the 9th???) and my husband now is a Gemini with Sun, Mercury in 3rd house. He is also a different enthnicity then me. IP: Logged |

I have venus in the 9th house in gemini. venus is cj MC, with some squares, a little trine...I have always wanted to live abroad. I have enjoyed reading more in the past, now not so much, I think because now my mind can't stop - I am not patient to read anymore. I am not intellectual at all. It is very hard for me to discuss some things like politics, the more theoretical and abstract side of spirituality or religion, theories in general, economy, etc. For example I dislike how the current president works, but I am unable to present clear arguments why. It is very hard for me to produce analysis of whatever is needed at my work. I've always wanted to take a master's degree and to study abroad but always doubted I was capable to deliver intellectually. I avoid certain types of conversations because I will sound dumb. Also, I don't really have an opinion about many things. Actually, not sure this is 9th house, but that gemini should be helping - maybe this is more a mercury issue - I am not sure. My mercury is in cancer, cjt with saturn... OK I am often attracted or at least curious about foreign men. I have almost always looked for jobs that would allow me to have contact with foreign organisations and people - it feels like there is room to breath. I have travelled a little bit overseas, but not long journeys - even though it is a dream of mine. Truth is I can't plan things. (In the end I don't do them Also here is my south node. I really dont get this house, and what I am supposed to do with it. It is hard to understand what venus is doing there for me in terms of talents, qualities, etc. It feels like it is a waste of planet in my chart :-) it could be in better place :-) What I wrote above is all I can identify about this house. I think if it was empty I would have never had any idea the 9th house themes existed. IP: Logged |

just found out in another thread by doomlord the difficulties I find with the 9 house and 3rd house seem to be due mostly to the nodes... IP: Logged |

My 9th house is empty and it's ruler is Cancer. Will having the moon's sign ruler here have a similar effect, just not as strong in comparison, to if the moon was placed there?IP: Logged |

It's not bad to have an empty 9th. Now you just need to look at where the Moon is posited in your chart to see how the 9th house and its issues relate to the rest of your life, where 9th house issues will be concentrated in other areas of your life. I would say yes, it's a tinge like having a 9th house Moon. But what's more important to establish is what the Moon itself is doing in the chart, what house it's in. Having an empty 9th means the 9th house is probably not going to be a life theme, even if it's important to you. IP: Logged |

My moon would be in Capricorn and in the third house. It only makes major aspects to my asc and chiron. I guess something I could make out of this is that and traveling I would do won't be extremely long like maybe no over-seas type of traveling maybe? And that I may travel mainly to see siblings or my mom with the moon there? =] I was worried about my ninth house being empty because I didn't know what that would mean for me wanting to get a college education =/. Its funny because my boyfriend has Venus and Mars 9H in Gemini as well and you sound just like him. Did I mention he is very articulate in English and learned it from only on the c omputer? I am also American and he is French. I notice he likes girls different the way he looks IP: Logged |

Moon conjunct pluto in scorpio in 9th house. Definitely have had vivid dreams my whole life that mean a lot to me. Also astral projection. And with pluto I have gone through a transformation that comes with a search for meaning. The moon and pluto working together I feel everyday (and especially night.)IP: Logged |

My 9th House is paaacked hehe. I have my Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Chiron there.Don't know much about the 9th house, but I can say that I like travelling a lot! Also I find religion interesting (not really into politics, although I find conspiracy theories regarding politics very interesting! and i can talk a lot about that) I always wanted to have a career in something where I can meet a lot of people from different cultures. I'm very interested in different cultures and languages. I live in Holland (so obviously i can speak dutch & english) but 6/7 years ago I became interested in the east asian culture and languages (especially the japanese language) so now I know some japanese too =) IP: Logged |

I have moon in Cancer H9. I've lived in two foreign countries, one of them I felt instantly at home in (easy putting down roots), the other not so much. But even the country I felt at home in, I kept moving between there and where I'm from. Had a hard time figuring out how I feel about countries and places. I don't travel too much, maybe once or twice a year, but travelling has always been a part of my life. Can't imagine not travelling.IP: Logged |
