Yes, they are two separate things. Each planet is in a sign, and the cusp of each house is in a sign. Planet = What? Energy - what are you doing? Sign = How? Which way do you do it? House = Where? Which area of your life? http://astrolibrary.org/read/ For example, your Sun is in your 2nd house. The Sun represents your identity and your wants. The 2nd house represents the part of your life that deals with your possessions, including your skills and talents. This placement indicates that your life may be focused around material wealth -- taking responsibility for your own finances, working and earning money, accumulating wealth. With the Sun in the 2nd house, you might identify with your wealth -- you may feel that you "are" what you have earned or what you own; you may feel that your wealth defines you.
http://www.dkfoundation.co.uk/dkfoundation/BookKarmaHouse2.htm http://www.cafeastrology.com/articles/suninhouses.html The cusp of your 2nd house is in Capricorn. Capricorn is the cardinal earth sign; Capricorn is an initiator, a starter; it is practical, sensible, responsible. This placement suggests that you handle your possessions in a careful, responsible manner -- and you are planning or actively working on building your wealth, earning a promotion or getting a raise, starting a business or finding other ways to earn money.
http://astrology-numerology.com/housecusp-2nd.html#Capricorn Your Saturn is also located in your 2nd house. Saturn is the planet of restrictions, our boundaries and limitations. This placement might indicate that you are afraid of losing the things you have worked so hard to earn; you may be very concerned with your material security.
http://theastrologyplace.blogspot.com/2012/07/saturn-in-2nd-house.html#.ULscHWeXvCM It is possible to have many planets in a single house; this is called a stellium, and it indicates an area of life where the native may have to deal with struggles and obsessions. Some astrologers consider a stellium to be 4 planets or more; others say it only has to be 3 planets.
http://www.lynnkoiner.com/astrology-articles/the-stellium-4-or-more-planets-in-th e-same-house It looks like you have 3 planets in your 1st house: Mercury, Uranus and Neptune. The 1st house is the house of self-expression, the person you try to be, the image you try to project. Mercury in the 1st could mean that you often think (and maybe talk) about your image; your mental and communicative abilities may have a strong influence in how you define yourself. Uranus in the 1st indicates that you may dress, act or talk in a non-conformist, unconventional or quirky way. Neptune in the 1st means that you might be unsure of what kind of image you want to project; you might unconsciously mirror other people with your self-expression. http://depthastrology2.com/MERCHOUS.html http://theastrologyplace.blogspot.com/2011/02/uranus-in-1st-house.html#.ULshWGeXvCM http://theastrologyplace.blogspot.com/2010/08/neptune-in-1st-house.html#.ULshqGeXvCM It is also possible to have houses with no planets at all. This is very common. It simply means that there is no special focus in that area of the native's life. It looks like your 4th, 5th, 9th, 10th and 12th houses are empty.

It is much appreciated! I hope more non-Mods do so, there are a lot of knowledgeable people here who like to help and it is always refreshing to look at the simple things from another person's perspective. IP: Logged |

Thank you Blackbird! This might start to get a little redundant... So you're saying every house is in a sign but that doesn't mean they have planets in the house? So I have Pluto in the 12th house but since I have no planets in that house, that area has no significance in my life? That's kinda boring D: On the otherside, I have Capricorn in the 2nd house w/ Sun as well. So I take pride in my possessions & my money, but at the same time money is hard to come by? I always felt I related w/ the Cap in 2nd house but I'm trying to figure out how the Sun will play out as well Also, what is the exact meaning of 'cusp'? I only know the word from sun signs when someone is a Taurus/Gemini 'cusp' IP: Logged |

Correct. Imagine the houses as a circle, a ring or a wheel, that goes all the way around the Earth. The circle is divided into 12 slices called houses; each house represents a different aspect of our lives -- our self-expression, our talents and material posessions, our home life, our creativity, our close relationships, our growth and learning and beliefs, our work and careers, our subconscious, etc. There are different systems for how the houses are spaced around the circle. In the "Equal House" system, all the houses are the same size -- 30-degree slices -- but many people feel that Equal house is not accurate because it does not account for latitude/longitude on Earth's surface, and also because it doesn't work well for people who were born close to the north or south pole. "Placidus" is a commonly used house system that adjusts/compensates for longitude and latitude; the houses can all be different sizes and can have slightly different positions around the circle. I think Placidus is the default system for the Astro.com free birth chart service. Regardless of which house system is used... everyone always has all 12 of the houses. The circle of the houses rotates as the Earth rotates, as the Sun moves across the sky and the times passes through the day. The position of the houses (which sign each house cusp is in) depends on the time that we were born.

Also, what is the exact meaning of 'cusp'?
Cusps are the dividing lines between signs or houses, like the spokes of a wheel. A cusp is the end of one house or sign, and the beginning of the next. When we say, "the cusp of the 1st house is in Capricorn", we mean that the start of the 1st house's slice of the circle is in the sign of Capricorn. When a planet is on or near the cusp of a sign, it means that the planet is being affected by both signs on either side of the cusp.

So I have Pluto in the 12th house but since I have no planets in that house, that area has no significance in my life? That's kinda boring D:
Pluto is a planet, so you would have a planet in the 12th house. But according to the info in your first post, Pluto is in your 11th house, not your 12th. :-) When a house is "empty", it indicates that there (probably) isn't any special focus there -- no unsual power or stress. It's neutral. It doesn't mean that nothing will ever happen in that part of your life; it means that part of your life will be average, or similar to the same part of most other people's lives. Sometimes there can be a special focus on an empty house; for example, in a T-square configuration between three planets, the house that is opposite of the apex of the T-square may hold answers and solutions to the stress that the T-square usually indicates. I have several overlapping T-squares in my chart, and the apexes are all in the 8th house; that means I might find solutions in the 2nd house. ------------------ My natal chart

You can have all the planets in one house if you are born during a rare event. Most people do not. Sure, more than one planet can inhabit a house at a time. I have four planets in house number 12 depending on if Jupiter is in house 1 or not, then it's only three. IP: Logged |

Sorry I meant to ask, how do I interpret the "position of houses", such as Scorpio in 12th house or Sag in 1st house? For example, I have Mercury, Uranus & Neptune in my 1st house w/ Sag in 1st house. So I somehow constantly think about my image, dress in a non-conformist way yet be unsure of what kind of image I project. I'm having difficulty interpreting three planets at once :/they contradict each other at times. Also, how would I incorporate Sag in 1st house into all of this? IP: Logged |

Why don’t you put up your whole chart as I find it challenging to interpret a chart based on the house/planet positions alone? The Sun in Capricorn, for instance, is about form and structure. I know many Capricorn Sun’s who are such people; like to live a live that is orderly and structured, like to have a clear outline of how their lives will unfold; lie to have a goal/achievement that they can work towards that has fame/public recognition attached etc This is essential for their vitality. So if you have this Sun and your Ascendant is in Sagittarius, it already provides a hint of turmoil between the life that is unfolding (Ascendant) and the Sun. With the Ascendant in Sagittarius, you may seem “all over the place”/ indecisive/ someone who spreads themselves too thin. This is because the life themes presented have had you become flexible, open-minded, versatile and “ever-learning” in order to cope with the challenges. It is likely that there is a lot of moving around/ foreign destinations/ dealing with foreigners/ religious themes/long-distance travelling/philosophy and higher education themes and pre-occupation with a “worldly calling”. Sagittarius Ascendant could denote a theme of “believing in an ideal” or “ideal way of living”. At worst, you can seem unrealistic, too naïve, spread too thin, locked in your own “bubble”, prejudiced, a “hippy”, pompous about “your way”, “know it all”, indoctrinated, impractical, righteous and judgmental, irresponsible, avoiding “real” responsibility and “real” life etc by not taking life seriously and having a too cavalier approach. At best, you can be upright, sharp, just, transparent, honest, optimistic, just, faithful, positive, uplifting and inspirational, vivacious, fun, wise and knowledgeable. If you are able to merge your Ascendant attributes with the Sun’s characteristics, you may be known as someone who is knowledgeable and practical, efficient and open-minded. Indeed, the practical/hard -nosed nature of the Sun can be softened and given a positive zest by the optimistic and worldly nature of the Ascendant: making you both open to alternatives, but wise in your discernment as to what is practical and “do-able”. Your Moon, if it’s in Gemini, adds to the charm of the Ascendant; making you very chatty, witty, charming and clever. You attract people easily because of your ability relate to anyone (even the so-called “dark horses”). But the Moon here can also make one superficial and insecure, a trickster and a liar, sneaky and two-faced, changeable and insincere, likely to take the shortest route, thinking of ways to “outdo” or “outsmart” another etc. Start by reading the cusp sign placements on astrology-numerology.com

Sun/Venus in Aquarius is the scientist/inventor and revolutionary artist and/or supporter. With the Cusp of Aquarius on the 2nd house, it affects matters related to income Your attitude to real world possessions differs from most. You may look at money and cars as a means to an end. If you find that they support the quirky lifestyle that your heart desires then you are all right with having some of your own. Cafeastrology.com Watch out for transits to the Sun and Venus as these will affect your income and 2nd house themes. Moon/Mars in Gemini is the curious child/experimenter/neighbour and conversationalist with many ideas. With the cusp of Gemini on the 7th house cusp, it affects your social life You lead a very active, social life-even after marriage. Change, variation and a great deal of flexibility are likely in your inter-personal relationships as you crave excitement and “newness”. Transits aspecting Moon/Mars are likely to impact your social life. Mercury/Saturn/Uranus/Neptune in Capricorn is the business agent, the organizer, the boss, the paternal parent, the assessor, the goal setter and achiever, the rule maker and law enforcer etc. With the Capricorn sign included on the cusp of the 1st house cusp, it affects the external themes of your life and how you go about developing the” underdeveloped” aspects of yourself. With Capricorn on the 1st house cusp, life is not a bed of roses. Of course, this is not the case for many, but with Capricorn sitting on the 1st house cups, there is an emphasis on the conscious ego developing attributes such as discernment, stability, persistence and hard work, refining one’s abilities and painstaking focus in creating defined outcomes. Transits to Mercury, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune will be these themes into focus.
