For starters,I was wondering if asteroid Aphrodite is somehow similar to Venus? And what sensation or vibe would one have if Aphrodite is conjuct or trine our/their personal planets and points? For example, Aphrodite conjuct NN or Aphrodite conjuct Mercury? IP: Logged |

this is an excerpt from my latest book - i just finished this section a few days ago."Venus as the purveyor of romantic love is a modern concept, and Venus is not the original goddess of love, that task befalls Aphrodite. Venus and Aphrodite are two distinct goddesses, but with substantial overlap in their stories and legends. Aphrodite is the original goddess of love and beauty in Greek mythology, and Venus is the original goddess of vineyards and gardens in the Roman myths...." Aphrodite somehow got relegated to an asteroid and Venus was the name given to a major planet. It was the melding of Greco-Roman history that influenced why Venus soared and Aphrodite didn't. Imo, you can look as either one since they represent the same qualities and stem from the same myth. The planets only represent the meaning we assign them anyway, they don't actually have any energy, just what we assume they have and we draw that from history and myth. So, I would say that you can easily ignore Venus and substitute it for Aphrodite with no change in synastry and its meaning - it might even mean more. But, given the fact that Aphrodite is tiny in size you'd have to - imo - see it conjunct/opp. in synastry and trines/sextiles, etc. wouldn't count for much. With asteroids, their size alone renders them less significant so they have to be touching personal planets (closely) for meaning. IP: Logged |

Kind of what I had been thinking. And I do like to look at Aphrodite as something with a stronger influence than that of an asteroid. Thanx for the clarification

Hmmm I'm wondering if aphro conjunct aphro in synastry with a 4* orb would have an impact? IP: Logged |

I also found this from an old forum."Both Venus and Aphrodite are names for the same goddess, more or less. Venus is Roman and Aphrodite is Greek. Their myths do interchange, however, just as Eros, Cupido and Amor have similar meaning names yet represent different influences (or the planet Jupiter and the asteroid Zeus), so does the PLANET Venus and the asteroid Aphrodite. Venus can imply anything from socially significant relationships, business partnerships, finances, parties, affairs of the heart, diplomats, debates, kidney disease, blood sugar imbalance, miss America contests, beauty salons, art in all its myriad forms, what we value, resources and a kazillion other things Asteroid 1388 Aphrodite does not cover such a range in her rulership. She like a pure drop of “aphrodisiac” from the hem of Venus’s robe. 1388 Aphrodite relates to “Impulsive love and attractions, love inspired by fated events, animosity turning to magnetism, charisma. When you add asteroid Aphrodite to a chart (conjunct a natal planet, or in synastry or transit) you get a sip of the aphrodisiac. You could be working on a budget plan and receive a call from someone who’s voice enchants you. You could be getting a fasting blood sugar test at the lab and the tech is drop dead gorgeous! You could be doing an advertisement design for new hair product and someone unexpectedly orders in a sumptuous meal." I still am though trying to understand Aphrodite conjuct North Node

Hi guys, sorry to post a question here, but I'm new to LL and barely catching up. My Aphrodite opposite his Sun. (0°) Should I take this as my Venus opposite Sun, then? And since I'm already here, what can you say about Chiron (me) conjuncts Lust (him) (0°) Thanks! IP: Logged |

Based on the myth and what I know about the NN, I would say that part of what you need to learn is to give yourself the chance to experience the joy of in-love without strings attached, to seduce for the pleasure of it. to enjoy being in-love without having to get emotionally supported. to make yourself beautiful to please yourself. to be vain and not feel guilty about it. I dont know the sing of the node and the way you express aphrodite will depend on sing, aspect and house position. IP: Logged |
