Aphrodite somehow got relegated to an asteroid and Venus was the name given to a major planet. It was the melding of Greco-Roman history that influenced why Venus soared and Aphrodite didn't.

And I do like to look at Aphrodite as something with a stronger influence than that of an asteroid.
