As for Sun square Mars in synastry but Sun conjunct Mars in Composite- I actually have this exact same combination with someone both ways. -His Scorpio Mars square my Leo Sun (2), my Libra Mars square his Cappy Sun (5) -but Libra Sun conjunct Mars in Composite (0deg)....

If the Composite aspect is closer than the synastry one it seems to potentially overrule (or at least greatly reduce) the jarring quality of the square in synastry.
I don't agree that Composites just magically activate once you declare you're in a relationship with someone. What, is there a special document you need to sign or something that brings the Composite to life? *exaggerated eye roll*
Composite is two energetic blueprints merging together. When you're interacting with someone you're interacting with them energetically, and they you. Your energies are merging. Synastry is when you view yourself as separate from someone. If you're used to extending your sensors out to someone else, you can sense composite aspects pretty darn quickly after meeting someone.

In saying that...you can usually feel Composite Sun conjunct Mars very early on.
It's really about having your drives match up, which includes sex drives. Generally there's a lot of agreement about how they use their energy and what for. If you've ever had Sun conjunct Mars in synastry its just a general feeling of understanding one another's ego constructs, and their 'push' out into the world. The physical compatibility is great- not just for intimacy but also simpler things like being comfortable sitting close together, walking together at a similar pace, etc.

In the Composite it's like that, but more extreme. The physical chemistry is through the roof. It's a basic attraction at a primal level. It's not devouring like pluto, but it can have the quality of being animalistic or a little rough. In general they're rougher with eachother than they are with other people. There's something about the other person that makes you courageous and willing to put yourself forth. You magically become more daring.
A lot of energy is generated, so we must be careful that it doesn't descend into heated arguments. They can get a lot done together.

The relationship tends to be very physical. Lots of touching and/or sex. There's a lack of awkwardness involved with it as well. I've heard someone say that sometimes the actual goal of the relationship itself is to be intimate lol.

This aspect does not indicate emotional and/or mental compatibility though, so that would need to be found elsewhere.

I'll add that Sun Square Venus is a Double Whammy with us and produces an almost love stelluim in the Composite. Composite Sun is Conjunct Venus in Leo with Composite Mercury also in Leo (both the Sun and Mercury fall in the 5th...Venus in the 4th). Composite NN in Cancer is loosely Conjunct the IC (and is in the 4th).
