Hi Mir,
The first thing I want to bring up is the Wilhelm is not the only Vedic astrologer that uses sidereal Nakshatras and tropical zodiac signs together. I just admire the way he is able to explain his choice based on his own observations (using Vedic techniques with tropical signs). That's why I'm using him as an example. The way he calculates Nakshatras is a his individual preference. For me it doesn't impact the my view on using tropical signs for Vedic astrology because, once again, he's not the only one to do this.
But, I'll explain his reasoning for calculating Nakshatras a bit differently for the sake of clarity.
Okay, so in Vedic astrology I think they calculate the Nakshatras based on equally dividing the ecliptic into the Nakshatras. Wilhelm divides the equator of the earth into the Nakshatras because they turn out more equally here. Dividing based on the equator makes the division more equal (something to do with how the Nakshatras are projected onto the earth from the ecliptic makes them a little bit uneven). This is his reasoning. It's an ecliptic Vs equator thing.
Now in most cases the Nakashatras of our planets are the same with either method. However there will be slight differences, and if your planets are close to the end or beginning of a Nakshatra using ecliptic calculations, there will be some changes when using the equator method. Padas are even smaller then Nakshatras and so there will be more changes to them using the equator method.
When I calculated my planets only one Nakshatra was different. The differences are small but when a few of your planets are close to the beginning or the end of a Nakshatra it can seem like a big change.
This is not my major interest in Wilhelm. He may be right about the perfectly even equatorial Nakshatras or not. I'm still open minded on this front. I need to investigate a little more and see how it fits. My biggest interest is in his work using the vedic techniques with the tropical zodiac signs. And to be fair sidereal is not flawless either, as I believe there is more then one anyanamsa to choose form and this may make slight differences as well.
So yeah, while I find Wilhelm's work with the tropical zodiac interesting, he's not my astrology guru or anything. I do value what I've learned from him about using Vedic techniques with the tropical zodiac very much though.
