This article reminds me of an ex of mine. His parents put him on Ritalin as a child for his behavioral issues and then later he was prescribed Adderall and started self-medicating with Marijuana and he would recreationally take pills like Percocet and other painkillers.
He grew up in a privileged environment where casual drug use was the norm (both prescription and illegal) but his psyche was a total mess from being on drugs since childhood. He couldn't go an hour of the day without being high on weed at least or else he would get withdrawals - shivers and stomach aches and pain.
He was also a Pisces midheaven so he often attracted other casual drug users as friends and so his drug problems continued to be normalized in his mind. All in all he was totally reliant on drugs to feel "normal" to the point of not having any sense of himself without something in his system and it all started with him being prescribed Ritalin as a child because he was hyperactive.
