I think I'm going to start Massage School this fall. It seems to me it would be easier to incorporate Reiki into Massage Therapy. I could travel, or start my own place... heck.. I could do both.

I'm ready to do something... I just have to start somewhere.

So, one of my dearest girlfriends and I were discussing what I'm going to do...

It occured to both of us that SHE IS IN BUSINESS SCHOOL!! Her dad is LOADED and will help her out financially... as long as it's business oriented.

We were brain storming. I could take a year to complete massage school, then beauty school (for nails). By the time I do that, she'll have her Masters. We could start a place. Massage, Reiki, Manicures and Pedicures... and.... wait for it.... a drink (nonalcoholic) and dessert bar.

That's not even the best part! I have the perfect name. I'm not sure about the legalities though. Maybe someone here knows.

PAMPERS!!!!

Any thoughts?

Oh fantastic! - a sound way to go forward, for sure! I'd love to do that in the future like I said I need a teacher in years to come!? (You're same age as me right - 26 - 27?)

Pampers is a cool name, it's also the name of the nappy brand - well known here in UK

Silly question, but do you have it in the US? Jus thought you should know, thinking eventually international!

When you do this Libra Sparkle I'll be sure to come check you out hun!

Where'd you reckon you'll be based?

Sheaa, I'm 29 (will be in Sept, anyhow), and I'm still in the US. Vancouver Washington.

I hadn't really thought of it on an international level. That would be really cool! I love to travel. I still really want to go backpacking through Europe (and parts of Asia) but unfortunatley I'm getting too old for youth hostels. I had an oppertunity to go to Thialand with a friend of mine, but I passed. Been kickin' myself in the butt ever since

Anyhow... thanks for adding to my dream! For the time being, I'm just taking baby steps. I'll let you know when I get there!

Sounds good. I have a friend back in Miami who is a Massage Therapist and he also is a Reiki Master. Didn't take him too long to get his business up and going either. I was a Massage Therapist back in Miami, too, but it hasn't been easy getting things to fall into place now that I've moved to another state. I don't know about laws where you live, but you should know that Massage licenses, if your state even requires them, are usually only valid in the state you received them. Also, Reiki has been pretty much ousted as a healing method that is covered by insurance companies, as a modality of Massage and Therapeutic Bodywork basically, because there is no actual skin contact. In other words, if you have clients referred to you by doctors (the best way to go in most cases), you can't charge their insurance for Reiki if you do use it. However, I'm sure a good number of people would be willing to pay out of pocket even if the Massage itself was covered by insurance. My friend's business is doing very well, in fact. I loved massage, too, but be prepared to need one yourself after you've been at it for a while.
Lots of luck!!!

I feel for ya Libra...I am also finding myself in the same boat.

It is not true that you cant help people in the psychology field until you get your masters. Doreen Virtue started working as an intake worker at a treatment center before she got her masters. When she did get her Masters then of course she had people telling her that her psychology degrees were worthless until she got her PH.D...everyone is a critic! Personally...there is a growing demand for spirituality and psychic friendly psychologists and therapists. Before when you told a psychologist that you could speak to angels or spirit guides they would diagnose you with schizophrenia or bi-polar disorder. So I personally think that more people who are interested and open minded in spirituality and new age topics should get into psychology if they are inclined to do so. This way people who are psychically sensitive can be helped without being told that they are insane and have more problems than they really do.

Thanks for your insight Eleanore and Miss Apple.

I've decided to put school off for another year and just get a job.

After that whole September 11 fiasco, hubby's job market got hit really hard

Unfortunately, the need for more income is going to have to be the fisrt thing I consider.

I'll have to wait until NEXT October to start school.

I'm just happy to be doing SOMETHING, ya know?

I've been staying at home with my kids for 8 years now. It's time to get out and join the workforce

Don't feel bad. I'm 25, just graduated from college last year with my 2nd degree, and still don't know what I want to do for a career. Right now, I'm working as an office assistant in the Food Service & Catering office at the University I graduated from (+ part time as a catering server). It's not what I want to be doing, but it pays the bills for now. I was thinking something in website design, but there's still so much about it I don't know. And so soon after graduating, I really don't want to go back to school again.

Sheaa, I will most likely be working at a natural grocery store as a checker or one of those people who wander around helping customers.

I made it through all three phases of the interview process at the Vet's office, but the decided to go with the other girl because she had more experience. Oh well.

hereisgone, Welcome to the board

I don't know a lot about web design, but I know my brother in law, who is an aspiring rapper, does web design on the side. He mostly designs sites in exchange for studio time. He's pretty much self taught. There's a lot of stuff out there on the net that can teach you how. Thanks for your reply

LS & Sheaa - Thanks for the welcome.

I am also self taught. HTML, CSS, basic PHP, basic Javascript, etc. It's advanced coding in PHP or Javascript, Java, XML, mysql etc. that I don't know.

Hi, Everyone! Sheaa and LS... you guys are my age. It's always nice to know!

And hereisgone... I really love your name.

BTW...hello, thegoat.

I'm just browsing tonight. I also don't know exactly what I want to do when I grow up. I'm going to school now for English. I'd love to do something in editing and publishing. I've got about four years or so to go (been going for 2.5 years, but I've got my four-year old beebee, so I only go part-time.) Just got a letter today from school... made the Dean's list! Yay! I go to Ohio State... just a branch, though, not main campus.

Anyway...I'm worried about putting all this time into school and maybe not finding a job. It would crush me! I think the best thing to do is to take advantage of any internships I may come across in the next few years. I'll take any foot in the door I can get! (Well, not any... and only a FOOT!)

Take care guys!
Carissa

hereisgone, sounds like you know a lot. All over my head

future, thanks for your response. Good for you for going to school while the bebe is still small! I started college when I was pregnant with my oldest... got morning sickness, and quit

Congratulations on making the Dean's list! That's awesome! You should celebrate!! Internships are a good idea

Thank you, LS!

I definitely will celebrate, but with the little one that takes some advance planning. Two weeks from today... WOO HOO! We're going to a wine tasting and a drag show. Can't wait!

FUN!!

We've got a drag club in Portland. I think it's called Darcell's. I've always wanted to go... but have yet to do it.

As you said... with the kiddos, that takes a lot of advance planning.

I'm still waiting to hear back from them. They called last night while I was at Gymnastics with Kayla. Of course they were out of the office when I called back... So... Now we play phone tag.

If I don't get this one, I think I might scream!

I have other applications out too... several receptionist positions, a couple bank teller positions, and this one sales job that I really don't want... but it pays. I think I told you about it... The RV thing.

Anyhow, thanks for askin' mmwwahh
