I went to my volunteer-job's annual Harvest Celebration, where they honor their volunteers first, then any work achievements and anniversaries for members of that society.

They are truly a deeply devoted family group who are firmly into humanitarian efforts.

I was amazed at how some of these were celebrating over 30 years of doing pro-bono work. Over 30 YEARS(one was 34 years)!! .. and their spirit is still as Good and Compassionate as when they'd begun. (At least, it seemed to me.)

A good many of them have been there 10 years plus. Incredible group of people. (Most of them have are people of faith, too.)

One of them came to me and sincerely thanked me for what I do. (There were 3 of us who volunteer, each of us assigned a different day-- mine is Tuesday). They said we took a load from them. That we screened out sometimes the '~strange' calls for them. They said they definitely appreciated that and do not envy our position.
.. I thought back, after this person said that to me. Yeah..., some people are tough? Actually-- what I see and hear are people in some REALLY REALLY tough situations, who get the 'run-around' through the help-agencies. Some, not caring 'how' they treat (or misdirect) the callers.
.. I am always conscientious about that. I've had people from other agencies call me back to THANK me for caring enough to give them the most exacting information that I could, at that time.
.. Been always able to 'put myself in the other's shoes', and respond with a kind (and very courteously flowing and firm sometimes) manner.

The Harvest buffet tables were filled by traditional recipes/dishes that some of the attorneys are noted for. Some of these are into gourmet cooking... omg, such yummy delicious food served!
.. They all over-supply the banquet tables so that EVERYONE takes home left-overs.

There were fun competitive games in the beginning. Like trivia guessing contests. I ACTUALLY won two, and came close to coming in #1 on the third, of the games. (I was told later privately, but they "shared" the prizes around so that one-person did not be the multiple winner.)

They helped me feel "smart" that day. Yes. I KNOW I'm smart. And I LOVE Competency and smart people. This-alone was like "nutrition" for my soul. I have been starved for being around the energy of super brilliant smart-people, who appreciate me too.
.. I also am conversation-starved here, in my home.

This only makes me feel an inside-pressure to want to release a talking-pressure-valve. Oh arrrghhhhh.

Happy Birthday, Memere! (Nov 20)

You know... I was thinking about it for the past few days. I'm working around a group of lawyers, many of whom are women.

I don't know the year that this particular grandmother was born. (My Libra grandmother, mgm, was born in the year 1900.)

She was the oldest child in her family, and wanted to become a Lady Lawyer!! (laughing here ... wondering if a part of her is pleased right now)

If you recall the other stories I've told about her, she had excelled in school. Got up to the 8th Grade in a catholic school. 8th Grade is really high, considering that my other grands had only reached 3rd or 4th grade before they had to drop out and go to work for the rest of their life.

She was on a trajectory to become a lawyer.

Her mother died. This left the burden of caring for her 8(?) other siblings and the dad, onto HER very tiny yet capable shoulders. She was forced to drop out of school.

On Sundays, the family (and extendeds) usually met at her house after church, or in the evening, for her fabulous cooking. She was a blue-ribbon prize-winner in her State.

She was not a physically demonstrative person, not a hugger at all. However, SHE is the one person I ever had in my entire life that I felt actually Loved me, and accepted me as-I-was... soooo ~flawed. (omg, smiling)

I recall the amount of respect the men in the family had for her brilliance, and her political opinions. She was soooooo Wise. She was known for her wittiness and sharp humor. She had ~way of expressing herself that was sooo diplomatic! She had a laugh that was merry. Sounded like pearls being dropped on the lid of a grand piano.

I stayed with her for around 6 weeks when I was being interviewed for a monastery in the region where she lived. My grandmother and I had a 'secret' relationship for a decade after I had left home. I still have her letters.

Anyways.. after I found out last month that Madonna is a blood cousin to me, I woke up one morning with a visual-audio recall of my grandmother having had a few conversations with family members and Madonna's name was mentioned. I think she was considered a kind of ~wild child among the sisters. She was having success doing what she was doing, though!! LOL.

How cool to be putting pieces of my life together now. What a 'grand' treat.

So.

My grandmother had always loved the music group The Carpenters. When she would hear Karen Carpenter sing, she said she ALWAYS thought of me.

I remember his earliest days, and the tragedies he had.

My dad had a far-away expression on his face when he said to me that HE could be President some day. ... I thought that prophecy ended with his reaching the Vice-Presidency under President Obama.

Certainly he KNOWS politics, and he is for helping the Middle Class. Right now, there is a ravaging and rape going on of the so-called Lower classes and Mids (economically). We're going to need someone who is Upright, to lead in Rebuilding this Country... leveling prosperity again to the masses, not just divvied to certain classes.

What's going on in the world right now, including threats of war.......
