I just wondered if it had personal significance. Most people, when they make up a name, it has some connection with their life - they'll pick their mother's maiden name, or the name of a friend or relative, or someone they admire. Linda got her name from a column she used to write in one of her first newspaper jobs.. Letters to Linda. At least that was the story she told me, when I asked how she got the name Linda. As always, time may have blurred my recollection a bit... She would read letters to/from soldiers overseas and play the most popular music of the day between letters. � all very romantic and nostalgic. I think she actually wrote a lot of the letters herself. Linda had a very warm, soothing radio voice. When she changed her name, she added "Linda" to Sam's last name and had "Linda Goodman."
