Yeah, good ones too!

I spoke to the people who are working to restore it, even considered Volunteering to be a once a month tour guide.

(I used to get that SMCNHA letter.)

Not really much of a people person.

Long drive, too.

Probably will, someday.

Tried to persuade a local Artist to design a cup, but no go.

They're supposed to be restoring it, though.

Yeah, I could pull weeds, if nothing else.

When the Time Comes.

Til then, I'll have to make do waking up to this.

Cause I am enjoying my Very First Cup even as we speak.

Pretty Beacon Light!!!
It looks like it could second purpose as a crystal chandelier in a fancy hotel...

Last year, when I took my kids to the Paul McCartney concert in Milwaukee, we visited the lighthouse there.

The beacon from this lighthouse guided ships on Lake Michigan for 139 years until the U.S. Coast Guard decommissioned it in l994. — at Lake Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

It's a long story, but here's a picture of the Milwaukee police giving us a police escort to the Lighthouse...

Speaking of Wells Fargo & Paul McCartney...

Fargo
The area that is present-day Fargo was an early stopping point for steamboats floating down the Red River during the 1870s and 1880s. The city was originally named "Centralia," but was later renamed "Fargo" after Northern Pacific Railway director and Wells Fargo Express Company founder William Fargo (1818−1881). The area started to flourish after the arrival of the Northern Pacific Railroad and the city became known as the "Gateway to the West."
...
Fargo sits on the western bank of the Red River of the North in a flat geographic region known as the Red River Valley. The Red River Valley resulted from the withdrawal of glacial Lake Agassiz, which drained away about 9,300 years ago. The lake sediments deposited from Lake Agassiz made the land around Fargo some of the richest in the world for agricultural uses. Early settlers sometimes called the Red River Valley a new "Garden of Eden".

My son and I had occasion to visit Fargo this weekend...

There lived a young boy named Rocky Raccoon."

Wow, that's a cool lighthouse.

Think I've seen it in some of the books.

How Neat.

And thanks for the close-up, you can read the sign, and the reflection in the prisms looks really Ghostly...

Man, the more I see my Cup, the more I love it. The Colours...

If I can't wake up to the Real Thing, it certainly does at least make my day Smile.

I really miss the Ocean.

Lucky you!

Anyhoo...

Was reading these lyrics, and thought of the Foghorn and it somehow brought me here...

quote:

Into the Mystic

We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won
As we sailed into the mystic

Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic

And when that fog horn blows
I will be coming home
And when that fog horn blows
I wanna hear it, I don't have to fear it

And I wanna rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
Then magnificently we will float into the mystic

When that fog horn blows
You know I will be coming home
And when that fog horn whistle blows
I gotta hear it, I don't have to fear it

And I wanna rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will float into the mystic

Come on, girl

Songwriters
MORRISON, VAN

According to Morrison, he couldn't decide whether the first line should be

"We were born before the wind" or "We were borne before the wind."

Like my answering machine (Skye Boat) song.

Thanks again for the close-up!

Love,

Ellyn

...I love Van Morrison! I'm an Astral Weeks kinda girl...Sweet Thing is one of my favorite songs to sign (ASL) along with to the words.

SWEET THING - VAN MORRISON

AND I WILL STROLL THE MERRY WAY AND JUMP THE HEDGES FIRST
AND I WILL DRINK CLEAR CLEAN WATER FOR TO QUENCH MY THIRST
AND I SHALL WATCH THE FERRY BOATS AND THEY'LL GET HIGH
UPON A BLUER OCEAN ‘GAINST TOMORROW'S SKY

AND I WILL NEVER GROW SO OLD AGAIN
AND I WILL WALK AND TALK IN THE GARDENS ALL WET WITH RAIN
OH, SWEET THING, THIS SWEET THING
AYE, YEAH, SWEET THING, AH YEAH
YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH
MY, MY, MY, MY LITTLE SWEET THING

I SHALL DRIVE MY CHARIOT DOWN YOUR STREETS AND CRY
HEY IT’S ME, I'M DYNAMITE AND I DON'T KNOW WHY
AND YOU SHALL TAKE ME STRONGLY IN YOUR ARMS AGAIN
AND I WILL NOT REMEMBER THAT I EVER FELT THE PAIN

WE SHALL WALK AND TALK IN GARDENS ALL MISTY WET, A MISTY WET WITH RAIN
AND I WILL NEVER, NEVER, NEVER GROW SO OLD AGAIN
OH OH OH, YOU SWEET THING
OH OH OH, YOU SWEET THING, YOU SWEET THING
MY, MY, MY, MY, MY, MY, MY, MY, MY, MY

AND I WILL RAISE MY HAND UP INTO THE NIGH TIME SKY
AND COUNT THE STARS THAT’S SHINING IN YOUR EYES
JUST TO DIG IT ALL AND NOT TO WONDER THAT'S JUST FINE
AND I'LL BE SATISFIED NOT TO READ IN BETWEEN THE LINES

ASTRAL WEEKS - VAN MORRISON

IF I VENTURED IN THE SLIPSTREAM, BETWEEN THE VIADUCTS OF YOUR DREAMS
WHERE IMMOBILE STEAL RIMS CRACK, AND THE DITCH IN THE BACK ROADS STOP
COULD YOU FIND ME? WOULD YOU KISS MY EYES?
AND LAY ME DOWN IN THE SILENCE EASY, TO BE BORN AGAIN
TO BE BORN AGAIN

FROM THE FAR SIDE OF THE OCEAN, IF I PUT THE WHEELS IN MOTION
AND I STAND WITH MY ARMS BEHIND M (sic), AND I PUSH ANOTHER DOOR
COULD YOU FIND ME? WOULD YOU KISS MY EYES?
LAY ME DOWN IN THE SILENCE EASY, TO BE BORN AGAIN
TO BE BORN AGAIN

THERE YOU GO STANDING WITH THE LOOK OF AVARICE
TALKING TO HUDDIE LEADBELLY, SHOWING PICTURES ON THE WALLS
WHISPERING IN THE HALLS
AND POINTING A FINGER AT ME

THERE YOU GO, THERE YOU GO STANDING IN THE SUN DARLING
WITH YOUR ARMS BEHIND YOU AND YOUR EYES BEFORE

THERE YOU GO TAKING CARE OF YOUR BOY
SEEING THAT HE'S GOT CLEAN CLOTHES PUTTING ON HIS LITTLE RED SHOES
SEEING THAT HE'S GOT CLEAN CLOTHES PUTTING ON HIS LITTLE RED SHOES
POINTING A FINGER AT ME

AND HERE I AM STANDING IN YOUR SAD ARREST
TRYING TO DO MY VERY BEST
LOOKING STRAIGHT AT YOU AND COMING THROUGH, DARLING

IN ANOTHER WORLD, DARLING
IN ANOTHER WORLD, IN ANOTHER TIME
GOT A HOME ON HIGH

AIN'T NOTHING BUT A STRANGER IN THIS WORLD
I'M NOTHING BUT A STRANGER IN THIS WORLD
I GOT A HOME ON HIGH
IN ANOTHER LAND SO FAR AWAY

WAY UP IN THE HEAVEN
IN ANOTHER TIME, IN ANOTHER PLACE
AND ANOTHER FACE

Personally, I think that if the EYES are "Windows to the Soul", then St. Van Morrison is most certainly in the "Window Washing" business...

CLEANING WINDOWS - VAN MORRISON - BEAUTIFUL VISION

Oh, the smell of the bakery from across the street
Got in my nose
As we carried our ladders down the street
With the wrought-iron gate rows
I went home and listened to Jimmie Rodgers in my lunch-break
Bought five Woodbines at the shop on the corner
And went straight back to work.

Oh, SAM was up on top
And I was on the bottom with the v
We went for lemonade and Paris buns
At the shop and broke for tea
I collected from the lady
And I cleaned the fanlight inside-out
I was blowing saxophone on the weekend
In that down joint.

What's my line?
I'm happy cleaning windows
Take my time
I'll see you when my love grows
Baby don't let it slide
I'm a working man in my prime
Cleaning windows (number thirty-six)

I heard Leadbelly and Blind Lemon
On the street where I was born
Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee,
Muddy Waters singin' "I'm A Rolling Stone"

I went home and read my Christmas Humphreys' book on Zen
Curiosity killed the cat
Kerouac's "Dharma Bums" and "On The Road"

What's my line?
I'm happy cleaning windows
Take my time
I'll see you when my love grows
Baby don't let it slide
I'm a working man in my prime
Cleaning windows
(say it again)

What's my line?
I'm happy cleaning windows
Take my time
I'll see you when my love grows
Baby don't let it slide
I'm a working man in my prime
Cleaning windows (number one hundred and twenty-six)

No wonder "Tupelo Honey" has been on my mind...

Was going to look up that Chivalry lyric.

Really, "Into the Mystic" has got to be my favourite.

Even though "Brown Eyed Carl" was "Our" Song...

I just wanted to jump back a couple pages on this thread...back to Sam O. Goodman & SAMO.

As I said before, Banksy was famous for his balloons and rats and Jean-Michel Basquiat became famous for signing his name "SAMO".

Jean-Michel Basquiat was also famous for his trademark images of Crowns & Halos, symbols he used as a sign of respect to his heroes by either 'crowning' them as members of a royal family or by beatifying them into sainthood with a halo (or HAL-O) .

Well, it had to be the Telepathic Language that had me thinking of "Teach Your Children" in the context of the Kerouac Title.

(You, who are On the Road must have a code)

That; of course, came in turn of this:

You can't stop us On the Road to freedom
You can't keep us 'cause our eyes can see
Men with insight, men in granites
Knights in armor bent on chivalry

You'd have thought this one would have popped up too, but no.

quote:

Back in 1958 we drove an old V8
And when it'd gone a hundred thou
We got out and pushed it a mile

We didn't know who we were
We didn't know what we did
We were just on the road

Headin' down from Canada
On a gravel road a mile from Montana
Then my daddy read a sign
And took us in the wrong direction

I asked my daddy, "Where are we goin'?"
He said, "Well just follow our nose"
So I looked out the window
And dreamed I was a cowboy

We didn't know who we were
We didn't know what we did
We were just on the road

I met a girl in a truck cafe
Fell in love almost right away
Then the Mercury was ready to go
And I had to leave her

Shoo-be-doo-be-doo-sh-doo
Shoo-be-doo-be-doo-sh-doo-sh-doo

Go home said the man in the moon go home
Go home said the man in the moon go home

Because it's gettin' sorta late
And I'll soon turn out my light
Go home said the man in the moon, go home

We didn't know who we were
We didn't know what we did
We were just on the road

We didn't know who we were
We didn't know what we did
We were just a ridin' on
We were just a ridin' on the road

I might have gone a little "Further " down On The Road because I've lived in a Carpenter school bus and I lost track of how many times I've seen Crosby, Stills & Nash now, but one of my favorite concert t-shirts is my CS&N "Teach Your Children Well" tee.

Going from "On The Road" to being back "at see"...with lighthouse beacons, of course...at another CS&N concert I got a Wooden Ships tee that reads "IF YOU SMILE AT ME I WILL UNDERSTAND THAT IS SOMETHING EVERYONE EVERYWHERE DOES IN THE SAM LANGUAGE."

So back to the "SAM O." language, here are a few pics of Basquiat's Crowns & Halos...

Recall this one I already posted after my "Miles Davis & Angels with Trumpets in the Bible" post on page 3 of this thread...

...I like how Basquiat put the Halo on the saxophone in this one. By the way, "Ornithology" is a jazz standard by saxophonist Charlie Parker and trumpeter Benny Harris...the song's title is a reference to Parker's nickname, "Bird" (ornithology means the study of birds).

I became a fan of Basquiat while shopping for shoes. My usual plain white Reebok sneakers needed replacing, so as usual I went to buy a replacement pair of white Reebok sneakers at www.reebok.com

My usual model of white Reebok sneakers weren't available, so I had to look for alternative pair to purchase. While looking for a different model of sneaker on www.reebok.com, I started getting really upset because it seemed like the Reebok shoes in my size were all crazy-colored--and not white.

Naturally, I called Reebok expressing my frustration.

The Reebok customer-care representative said they did not have any white Reebok sneakers at the moment, but they might re-release white Reebok sneakers next season. I explained that I'm just a mom who needs a pair of plain white Reebok shoes right now and I can't wait until next season.

After spending a couple hours with a (very patient) Reebok consultant who had me type in different model numbers on their website to look at different shoes. This was the Plain-est Jane-est monochrome shoe we could find that I really liked...

When I first saw it, I was actually pretty awe-struck and said "Wow, that shoe has my name all over it..." She started to go on to the next shoe, probably thinking I was being sarcastic instead of just sighing and saying, "No...it's too busy," again. But, I stopped her saying, "No, really...wait! You don't understand. My name is Stephanie. It means "Crowned" in Latin. That's the shoe I want. It has crowns. It has my name on it."

The patient customer-care representative was so nice in sharing my enthusiasm...probably for a different reason though ...lol

From there I became very interested in wanting to know more about the artist whose apparently iconic images of crowns were on my shoes...and felt a strange kinship because we both have the letter Q in our last names.

To make a long story short, I became worried I wouldn't be able to get anymore of the "crown shoes", so I bought a couple more pairs of that same shoe...

And found a couple more pairs of "crown shoes" I also really fancied...

Then (with help from the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) I started to get pretty brave (for me) in regards to colorful footwear...

...

<-- This pair doesn't even match, but I don't care!..they're still currently my favorite pair.

For anyone who's interested in Basquiat, there are a couple good movies about him, Basquiat and Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child.

I've only seen the first one, Basquiat. Michael is "Mr. Movies" and has seen them both. Mike and I have had some lengthy discussions about Jean-Michel Basquiat, SAMO and his mom using O for his dad's middle name...but another interesting coincidence Mike noticed is that shortly before his death, Jean-Michel went to Hawaii and returned to New York, but he had often spoke of wanting to move to Hawaii to write poetry and play music again.

Basquiat (11/12) Movie CLIP - Amoco Artwork/Hawaii (1996)

~

One of my favorite scenes in the movie,Basquiat, is when Jean-Michel tells this story about a little prince with a magic crown:

quote:

"There was this little prince with a magic crown. An evil warlock kidnapped him, locked him in a cell in a huge tower and took away his voice. There was a window made of bars. The prince would smash his head against the bars hoping that someone would hear the sound and find him. The crown made the most beautiful sound that anyone had ever heard. You could hear the ringing for miles. It was so beautiful, that people wanted to grab the air. They never found the prince. He never got out of the room. But the sound he made filled everything up with beauty."
