I have a relative who resembles me somewhat. I think of this relative as my picture of Dorian Gray, that ages normally, while I stay young. Do you have a person, animal or thing, that is your picture of Dorian Gray?------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 IP: Logged |

Dorian Gray is a fictional character. He always appeared very youthful but in reality he had a painting of himself in his attic, and it aged, showed injuries, etc while he maintained his youthful image.IP: Logged |

My kids swear I don't look any different than I did when I was in high school (to the point of my 18 year old daughter commenting on how "spooky" it is), but obviously they aren't seeing the lines on my forehead like I am LOLIP: Logged |

Old Thomas, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Tom_Parr had a son who looked older. Often people took the father for the son.------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 IP: Logged |

I have a strange feeling that Dorian's story isn't entirely fictional. IP: Logged |

The Picture of Dorian Gray was first published in 1890. It is the only published novel we have from Oscar Wilde, as he was mostly known for being a playwriter and a poet. Oscar Wilde became also known for his homosexuality and he even had to make his claim before court, as he was accused of showing indecent behavior along with a younger British poet and aristocrat. Don't forget that we are in the Victorian England (1837-1901) and homosexuality is a punishable offence. The writer's preface to the book is a perfect presentation of his praise of aestheticism. Great writing, great movie, great theater play. The Picture of Dorian Gray is listed among the classics, but I would leave that to his readers. One thing is for sure about this great writer. His use of language is really illustrative!
