I can't believe that no one mentioned Phenomenon! My favorite movies of all time, and I watch them every month or so is: Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. Steven King needs to stick to gut-wrenching, tear-jerking Drama!!! Fight Club is awsome but not for everybody. Here's two fairly obscure favorites: PI (the math symbol)and Memento, very interesting. The only thing I make a point to watch on TV is Scrubs, it's laugh your ass off funny! MOVIES - I don't believe no one mentioned my favorite movie of all time: *~*~*Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb*~*~* Surprisingly, I also enjoy old Cary Grant comedies (Arsenic & Old Lace, The Philadelphia Story - with Jimmy Stewart, too, how can you go wrong?). Favorite Recent Movies - I'm a sucker for "Lord of the Rings", but I grew up reading that stuff so I'm a lil' biased; and then, of course, there's almost anything with hottie Russell Crowe (even schizophrenic in "A Beautiful Mind" - me: "Who you talking to, honey?... Oh, that's nice. Sit there and look pretty now, kay?"). And if you're in the mood to read your movies (unless you speak Bosnian/Croation/French and Spanish, respectively), "No Man's Land" and "Amores Perros" are fan-tas-tic. I made the people in the Political Philosophy course that I was in this summer watch the former when we started talking about Just War Theory (yes, if a student is enough of a loudmouth she can make a class of which she's a member do anything) - people weren't enthused about the subtitles when it began, but everyone was blown away by the end.BOOKS - Anything by Kurt Vonnegut. They're just fun to think through. Also, "20 Cases Suggestive of Reincarnation" if you'd like some dry but provacative reading. There's so much more... TV Shows - I don't care what anyone says, I like "Six Feet Under", and I'll watch any "Star Trek" series that happens to be on if I dern well feel like it. The only other two shows I watched ("Futurama" and "Family Guy") have been cancelled. Oh, wait, wait - "The News Hour with Jim Leher"...wow! In-depth TV news coverage that doesn't smack of sensationalism! Cheers, Corri D'oh - I can't believe I forgot - in MOVIES: Just about anything written and/or directed by the Coen brothers (yeah "O Brother, Where Art Thou?", "The Hudsucker Proxy", etc) or Terry Gilliam ("Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen", "Brazil", et al - nuts, flippin' nuts). Actually, I think "Dr. Strangelove" might have to duel it out with "Brazil" to be my #1 pick. Geez, I can't believe I forgot that. IP: Logged |
