i thought i'll post here, i don't want to mess up Ra's threadyour description certainly sounds tasty! what is saurkraut and pierogies by the way? not to worry..Christmas is the only time when you can get away for eating more than your share, they are just too busy wondering whether they've a good prezzy from their in-laws i love food (no i'm not a taurus), i think it's one of the delights that we get to enjoy by being in a physical body...indulgence of the senses hehe hmm i think we do have some food similar to yours...but so far the restaurants i've been to here are lousy in taste, so even though the meal should be delicious in theory...more often it turns out to be half cooked or ill prepared or simply just unpalatable i'll be back, i'm still looking for that darn book

Mmmmm!! Sourkraut and pierogies! Sorry, I know the thread is addressed to Fajita, so I hope it's ok to jump in on this one. My mom and her family were born in Poland. Pierogies are almost like potato dumplings (although they can have different fillings with the potato like: cheese, mushrooms, spinach, onion, saurkraut) I also like to put saurkraut on them. Most people eat them with sour cream...I take a much different twist and sometimes put mustard on them (well, on plain potato pierogies anyway-it's like eating a knish). Yum. ------------------ "What lies behind us and lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

I made pierogies part of the Christmas menu this year filled with potato, blue cheese, and artichoke hearts. They also had a ground almond and breadcrumb crust on them, very yummy with sour cream IP: Logged |

I know what you mean about restaraunts, we have that problem here too. I like to eat seafood and Mexican style food and thai and Indian and sushi too. Well really most kinds of food I like. Don't worry whenever you find the book is OK Thanks for starting this thread, I kept forgetting which one I met you in anyhow Hope you have a good night ------------------ Food is the only art that nourishes! You only gave me half of the other e-mail address....lol Shoot me an e-mail this weekend. Goin out for Indian food tomorrow night. There's a street downtown with only Indian restaurants... And yum! Aphrodite, that sounds heavenly. I love potatos, I love blue cheese, I love artichoke...sounds superb. I already emailed you from here hope I am not bombarding you today, LOL I hope you enjoy your Indian food tomorrow Saving money and cooking for my bf and I so we don't eat out, I am making roast chicken with herbs and a teeny-weeny little bit of butter and twice baked potatoes with sour cream and scallions. OK not the healthiest dinner but my bf is strictly meat and potatoes kinda guy! have a good one everyone

oooh potato dumplings!my dad used to skin the potato and eat the insides only cause he reckons the outside is dirty now he just eats the skin because he read somewhere that it is more nutritious do you cook the potato together with the fillings? i can't eat mustard, it's too spicy...but i can handle hot curry mmmm
can you explain what is a knish for the food illiterate? Fajita
you like thai too! though i know very little, i do like tong yum and then yesterday night, i just had teriyaki chicken for dinner at Jap. res., i was going to order a tempura ice-cream for dessert but they were about to close can you make sushi? we learned how to in high school...my mum's starting to learn how, she's got all the utensils and ingredients but seems to never get round to it...i've got to go and give her a prod hehe lucky bf, you're so good to cook for him, i hope he knows that my dad knew this couple where the male did all the housework, bring in the income, pay the bills, all the female did was spend the money and complain yes i'm sure the modern woman would like that, a man who cleans up after himself oxychick have a great time --> IP: Logged |

N_wEvil-I love black olives and jalapenos on pizza! That sounds scrumptuous! (Also, pineapple is actually very yummy on pizza.) But, what is a "bog"?Ice Mists- Potato knishes (pronounce both the "k" and the "n") are a lump of mashed potato inside a breaded/almost doughy (sorta) outside. That's the best description this undomesticated girl can give you. The knishes sold in delis are typically better than store-bought, though some people prefer it the other way around. The prepackaged ones in supermarkets often look like yellow squares, but freshly make knishes are bigger and rounder. Often times you'll find spinach knishes too. I eat knishes with mustand, some people use ketchup, or nothing at all. If you live near a Jewish deli, you'll definitely find them there. The Indian food was great! I had a vegetable dish with cauliflower, chick peas, potato, some other stuff in a mildly spicy/cream sauce. (I do love curry though!) And I had vegetable samosas to start. But my friends and I shared our dishes. ------------------ "What lies behind us and lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us." -Ralph Waldo Emerson IP: Logged |

Hi icemists! Well pierogies have a dough that is made out of flour and eggs and water and then rolled out. Then inside they put a little bit of mashed potato and cheese, or meat or other things, and they are boiled and delicious with sour cream.Yea knishes are good they are like what Oxy said. I did not learn about those until my boyfriend who is Jewish introduced me to all that kind of food- matzo ball soup, brisket, stuff like that. Mmm I love curry, i probably can't eat it as hot as you! And sushi is great, I just love raw fish and I like to put a little lemon and wasabi with my soy sauce but I might be alone on that! I like pickled and sour and salty things alot. WHat do you eat for breakfast there Ice mists. In America we often eat eggs or cereal with milk or waffles and stuff. I like fruit and oatmeal. N_wEvil your pizza sounds great. I love jalapeno on cheesy nachos so I am sure I would love it on pizza. Hee hee yes Ice mists I surely would like a guy who would pick up after himself! GOod night all, oxy your meal sounds delicious, how could you share? no just kidding! ------------------ Food is the only art that nourishes! IP: Logged |

hmmm you can find them in a Jewish deli...i've got to try these knishes somedayhehe i've some curry for lunch today...though not very hot (ha it's my mum's cooking...she's afraid to give the family sore throats from heaty foods) pieorgies almost sound like the knishes i don't like wasabi, they taste like toothpaste =P the typical australian breakfast consists of eggs & bacon, toast, milk also cereal, sausages...i think very much like american? i find the fried eggs bacon too oily in the morning, vey much prefer just a glass of orange juice pineapples on pizzas are nice N_wEvil what do you put vanilla on besides ice-cream and desserts? sorry if that sounded dumb Fajita this may be ignorant, do you celebrate chinese new year? i think we're about to in a month...yippee! heh i think that's enough rambling about food for me for today i think i'll go and brush up on my japanese IP: Logged |

Um, I personally don't celebrate Chinese New Year but a whole lot of Chinese people do in America! I mean I would celebrate if there was a parade nearby I like pierogies better than knishes I hope all is well with you. thanks for keeping in touch p.s. I can only handle very little wasabi. p.p.s. if you would like a recipe for anything let me know.
