Why do we say "A penny for your thoughts" but when rendering an opinion we say "just my 2 cents"?Why does it cost less to solicit an opinion than to give one? Is it some bizarre supply/demand thing? And, if someone gives the penny for my thoughts, why do I have to give them my 2 cents - they asked for it, shouldn't they cover the costs? (sorry, these are the things I think about when I can't sleep ) IP: Logged |

Good question! Hmmm, I'm sure it has some validity. I mean, when I want to know something, I really want to know ...so I'd probably pay- as demonstrated by the website askearth.com However, mostly I don't like getting unsolicited opinions, so yeah, you've got to give me $.02 to listen I suppose that means listening is of higher value than talking. Hmmmm, interesting. IP: Logged |

While we're at it, does any one know the origin of "train of thought"? As in, "I've lost my train of thought", or "You broke my train of thought", when one forgets the next part of the point one is trying to make?I mean, are we talking train derailment here, or does this refer to a gown or robe... as in a lady's or bride's train that sweeps the ground. Both kinda shockin' actually! Anyway it's bugged me for yeeeeeaars... arrrgh. (Especially when I can't sleep, shamrock227!) Lunargirl IP: Logged |
