Last night, I felt the Earth move! It was like someone was jumping up and down on the bedroom floor, but no one was there. Little did I know at the time, but we had an earthquake, which is quite rare in Georgia. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Yikes, that is something I can`t even imagine... What was your first thought & how long did it take you to understand what was happening? juniperb

I thought I was dreaming, but once I realized I was awake, I didn't know what to think. I didn't learn the truth until this morning when it was announced that Fort Payne Alabama had a 4 quake, and we felt the tremor all the way here. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Randall, I too felt like I was dreaming, for I was infact in a dream-state when I was roused so suddenly. I felt my bed shaking and heard a rumbling, and I thought we had a tornado, but I didn't hear the sirens. Then as quickly as it came it was gone, and I said "Oh, okay. Cool deal." And dropped right back to sleep. Kinda brings a new respect to the lyric "I felt the earth move under my feet!" IP: Logged |

I have been thru many while growing up in south cali. They are really wierd. I know they cause danger and destruction but it's really exciting and scary when it happens! In school we used to have a bottle of water and non-perishable food in a plastic bag with a pic of our family in case of an earthquake. I remember how unnerving they were..------------------ food is the only art that nourishes! IP: Logged |

Ehehehe... I have encountered earthquakes thrice. All of them I completely missed.First time - was in the 1st grade when all of a sudden teachers were making us go out into the open. One of them was pointing (hey, look! Airplane!) now what the hell is the connection of an airplane with an earthquake is beyond me, but I find it funny. I was wondering what the whole commotion was all about until I got hopme and my family said, "Didn't you feel the earthquake?" and I went, "eh?" Second time - last year. slept through it. The next day my schoolmates were chattering about an earthquake last night and asked me about it. I went, "eh?" Third time - also last year. Completely missed it. My friend was in the house eating dinner. He said, "Did you feel that? It was an earthquake!" and he pointed to a lampshade that was still shaking. I saw it shake but I didn't feel it. So I went (you guessed it), "eh?" IP: Logged |

I've lived in California for 17 years now and I'm still not used to the earthquakes. I actually had to move out of an apartment after the Northridge earthquake (I think it was 1993 or 1994, a 6.7 if I'm not mistaken) because it upset me so much that I couldn't sleep in that apartment any more. For 6 months after that quake I slept with the TV on and fully clothed, including my shoes. To this day I still keep a pair of shoes at the end of my bed when I go to sleep.I now have automated emails sent to me from one of the earthquake monitoring centers everytime there is a 3.0 or greater in Southern California. It must have to do with the fact that I'm a Capricorn ...I guess I get a little unnerved when the ground beneath me starts moving. When I was 6, we had an earthquake one Christmas Eve. Back then I never worried, because I knew it was just Santa Clause under my bed that made my bed shake. LOL! Heidi IP: Logged |

I've never felt an earthquake... so really don't have much to say regarding them.Just wanted to slide through and say I enjoyed reading this! Has made me laugh. Strange as an earthquake isn't funny... though you guys shed some humor on it! Randall: AL?! Really? Last night? IP: Logged |

Night before last. No damage, though. A 4 quake isn't much. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark IP: Logged |

I too have been through three shake, rattle and rolls (one in New York City believe it or not![well the quake was actually in CT]). The one in Malibu was interesting. The quake was actually a big one but it was in one of the less populated areas of Cali. Now that was interesting! I've also witnessed a few hurricanes in my time. Acts of nature are awesome (and scary).Maria IP: Logged |
