Ooooh!! This imaginary BBQ is going to be THE BEST! jwhop, I hope you have the space for all of us to crash in the event of a very *late* night! A simple side dish idea.... Slice some potatoes, some carrots, some onions, even yams, parsnips, any of the more "firm" vegetables and mix in a bowl with about a tablespoon of olive oil, a clove or two of minced garlic, salt & pepper to taste (some even put italian dressing and nothing more...which is rather yummy too) Then wrap securely in tin foil so that there's about 3 layers of tin foil between the food and the grill. Throw it on the grill and forget about it for 20 mins to a half hour. Now, go enjoy a couple of beverages while it cooks.! IP: Logged |

Oh yeah! The hot sauce.I have a very simple thing that you can throw that stuff on. Cabbage. Take a head of cabbage and cut it into quarters Rub butter over. Throw on some red pepper. Wrap in foil. Toss on the grill until it becomes soft. (works on a bon-fire also) Add the hot sauce (if you want)... IP: Logged |

Not for me Tommy_Cat... If my tummy is gonna get ripped, it`ll be on punch and the S.C. to ward off the cold my lowered resistance; which, from over-indulgance, is gonna kick my butt . And I do believe Sothern Comfort is made in Tenn.. Yummy to the folks of Tenn!!!! Jwhop has to move all his gators over if he`s hosting all of us; round em up J.W. A good side dish for the grill is corn in the husk, soaked in sugar water & steamed. Yours sounds good on my plate too Lion! I feel like 'burbing' thinking about it! juniperb IP: Logged |

Hi juniperbOxy's right, that's a bruschetta variation. Add a sprinkling of crushed red chile flakes to spice it up, if you like it spicy. Yours sounds yummy too and I love mushrooms. Oxy, you can get the same effect by browning the cut bread in a cast iron skillet with no oil and low heat. Same for the tomato or you can bake the tomato in the oven on a foiled cookie sheet until it's mushy soft. Kugel? Have to save that, it sounds like it has possibilities but what is ream? jwhop IP: Logged |

That's right 1scorp, I do live 2 blocks from the beach But as for walking to the beach, you might want to set your sights a little lower because if you drink what we've been talking about, you'll be lucky to be able to crawl over there. But if you can get there, the Gulf temperature is about 84*F now.Ummm, wouldn't count on embarrassing me either. I have a pretty high threshold for embarrassment. Hey, you aren't planning on showing up wearing a Gore for President button---are you. Yeah, a splurge day or weekend is good for the psyche. Helps get through the week to have something to look forward to. jwhop IP: Logged |

Was that a dare?! Might just leash one of them gators and take them for a walk, while I'm at it Juni: TN then. I wasn't for sure. Fine. No one wants cabbage. I can save the couple of bucks and buy a deck of cards Oh yeah... you guys might already know this trick. I'll poste anyway, in case you don't. Take one of those nylon coolers and fill with about 2 inches of water. Make sure it's unzipped and place in the freezer over-night. The next day... put your beer in there. Won't melt for many hours and it makes a pocket for the beers in the ice Hey, I think it's a nifty little idea IP: Logged |

Geez LioneyeWish you had told me this was going to be an imaginary barbecue. I would have ordered imaginary chicken and ribs. Guido the butcher is going to be steamed. I assume you're talking about a cyber sleep-over If so, I think I can find a file on my drive you can crash in----if you don't mind spending the night with some of the stuff people insist on emailing me. You might even find it educational, shocking but educational. Sorry ladies, not a gator in sight, they prefer fresh water and I'm surrounded by saltwater. Boca Ciega Bay is across the street and the Gulf of Mexico is 2 blocks west. Bring the lasso anyway, I have Blue Herons and Great Egrets that like to hang out in my back yard. Maybe one of them would take you for a ride. Just don't feed them any of juniperb's whisky marinated beef. I don't know what the fine is for contributing to the delinquency of a bird. 1scorp, is that a simple dare or a double dare? jwhop

my Kugel was a big hit! How exciting! jwhop, I am in hysterics right now at your posts! Cyber slumber party, eh? Can I paint your nails and crimp your hair? Ooh...as for potato salad...my old prof. made some today (the same delicious potato salad she made for last year's 4th of july): first let stand a bowl of olive oil with tons of freshly chopped garlic (yes, I had the stench coming out of my pores from chopping it all up today), then mix soem with potatos, scallions, fresh dill and quite a bit of feta cheese. VERY scrumptous. We also ate samosas today as well as tabouli salad. Good ethnic brunch all in all. Oh yeah, and 9 1/2 hours of drinking too..sparkling wine with orange juice, club soda and raspberry vodka. Not bad. A little dehydrating, but not bad. Still would have preferred beer though. Juniperb-corn sounds yummy too. Maybe we can make shishkabobs?? With hot sauce IP: Logged |

Oh, jwhop, you're a riot! If you're not careful, you WILL find yourself on the hosting end of a Lindaland BBQ! (not a completey ludacrist idea, especially for a Leo like yourself, no?) 1scorp, I would love to party with you! You rock so hard! Oxy & Juni, I can tell you'd be alot of fun too! Tomcat, you can only come if you bring the hot sauce .(oh and if it's ok with jwhop, but he reserves the right to be the only male invited if he so chooses) IP: Logged |

Heck yes, by all means Tommy_Cat's invited. The more the merrier. Besides his "kick it up a notch" comment is an indication he's a fan of Emeril "Bam" "Bam" Lagasse What Bam Bam doesn't know about barbecue isn't worth knowing. Maybe we could take the night off, let Emeril do the cooking and concentrate on some serious spirits sampling Hey Lioneye, no reason the whole LindaLand crowd shouldn't attend. I have a Gazillion gallon waterbed handy, just bring floaties. Oh yeah, and shark repellent jwhop

Not if you're going to sleep on that particular waterbed. A sand anchor would come in handy too or you may awake and find you've set sail for Galveston during the night. jwhop IP: Logged |

Oxy, I believe he's going to get us drunk and toss us out onto the beach to spend the night Well... considering I was going to "attempt" drinking all the punch and taking a stroll over there.... I'm sure that's where I'd end up anyway IP: Logged |

You ladies crack me up Come on, would I do that? Get you drunk and drag you to the beach to sleep on that lumpy sand I'm deeply wounded you think a Leo could be the Host From Hell No, no, no! Picture this instead. There you are on the biggest waterbed for hundreds of miles around. It stretches from the West Coast of Florida to the East Coast of Texas and you're bobbing around on your little floaties on the 84* water with balmy 80* breezes gently blowing, sleeping under the full moon with the skies full of stars. Most people would think that more like Paradise Just don't all of you turn over at the same time---tidal wave and my home is only 2 blocks away and 2.6 feet above sea level. jwhop IP: Logged |

Guess we could have a campfire to make s'mores but the microwave is faster Ever see what 20 seconds on high in a microwave does to a marshmallow?I heat a dozen or so Hershey's Kisses in a double boiler over low heat just until they are melted. Take a whole Graham Cracker, break in half. Lay one half on a saucer, top it with a marshmallow, put it in the microwave on high for 20 seconds or so, then put the other Graham Cracker half on top and press them together to make a sandwich. Cover the top Graham with melted chocolate and let it cool for a few minutes until the chocolate hardens again. OK, that takes care of the s'mores and the request for chocolate. We get a terrific variety of fruit here most of the year around. It's easy to make a fruit cocktail. Mango, banana, papaya, star fruit, oranges, tangerines. Yum! The only thing that's really seasonal is strawberries. Watermelon, love it too. By all means, spit the seeds out, don't you ladies swallow them. jwhop
