i read about this yesterday. its very interesting! the thing i worry about though, is i almost feel like there is this countdown to find another inhabitable planet, and that when we have totally killed mother earth we will board some big ship and go ruin another one. not to mention the fact that if there was a mass exodus from this planet, i bet only the rich/celebrities/otherwise 'important' people would go and they would leave all the poor/otherwise vulnerable people behind on a ruined planet. i try not to think about that stuff too much or i get really depressed. i just think we should try to clean up our own damn messes, like the mess weve made of this planet. that was neat information though. i always thought there was *something* out there. I wonder what they'll name the planet, and perhaps the star/sun itself -- I wonder about the numerology of the star's code -- HD 70642. quote: PARIS - Astronomers say they have found a Jupiter-like body circling a distant star in a planetary system like ours, an intriguing discovery that raises the prospect of someday finding a planet resembling Earth. Hugh Jones of Liverpool John Moores University said his team had discovered the system, illuminated by a star dubbed HD 70642, some 94 light years from Earth. Jones was presenting the finding at a conference at the Paris Astrophysics Institute here Thursday.

it's encouraging they have it down to jupiter-sized planets - before they could only detect borderline stars!!After Darwin launches and the bugs are ironed out we might even see some disks resolved!! IP: Logged |
