I found this interesting. No formal warning issued from Homeland Security tho. http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/internet/07/03/hacker.warnings.ap/index.html Do you think it`s probable or just smoke? juniperb IP: Logged |

Or get a job I just don`t understand hacking, virus`s et al. To me it`s the same as stealing, breaking and entering and pure malice. What makes these folks tick? juniperb IP: Logged |

why on earth would the dept of homeland security get involved? there was nothing mentioned about terrorism. i really dont like this dept, it has been pretty useless imho and all it seems to do is make people paranoid of being attacked. it seems to me to be very much a big brother type of institution. but then again, i dont know. im living in happy canadian bliss. i agree with you juni, i dont get hackers either, i mean the malicious ones. some have done things that are for the common good... but the ones that just run around wrecking peoples webpages are just morons imo. just another way for a little person to feel like a big dude/tte.IP: Logged |

Actually hackers are rather important - any idea about how insecure most systems would be without these people looking for holes in them?

With a lot of the hackers it's the challenge of being able to get into someone else's system. I don't think many of them are really malicious, I think they just lack social skills and have too much time on their hands.Heidi IP: Logged |

well, having been involved in the hacking culture... i can say that most are not noble at all. i know a lot of hackers who do their thing in ways that arent malicious. but there are 25 malicious hackers for every 'responsible' hacker. the malicious ones are the idiots who just have to strike out at society, and dont respect anyone. they are the ones that make the viruses that will destroy your hard drive, and things of that nature. they do things just to ruin peoples things. those are the kind that i cannot stand. i have been hacked once, long ago. i will not even describe what was done to me, because it was absolutely disturbing. my computer was taken over and the most vile pictures were showing up on my screen among other things... i wont say any further.ive seen both sides of the net. ive seen the good, and the not good at all. youd be shocked and horrified. theres some sick people out there.
