I was wondering how many knowflakes are affected by the east coast power outage. It goes up into Ottawa Can. I know Oxychick is. Who else? Proxie, Starlover maybe, any one you can think of? Lets start a prayer chain for the people and cities that this may just be an inconvience and not a disaster. juniperb IP: Logged |

Pretty good, ozone - thanks for asking.I just got home from eating dinner w/ Jase (scatbug) during his workbreak after getting off of my own job, and am half-watching the subdued mayhem being broadcast on network TV while being attacked by my student group-house's cat. But I think that I'm about to start playing Dark Cloud 2, Xenosaga, or Medal of Honor: Frontline. Decisions, decisions. How 'bout yerself? IP: Logged |

It looks like it's turning out OK - NYC people are tough cookies, and it seems that they're staying as sane and courteous as during 9/11 - I pity them those temperatures, though. The lights are coming back on now. IP: Logged |

Well, with size and magnitude of that city, you got to stay calm at any cost, not like it was back in the good ol' days of the 60's!IP: Logged |

The outages range from Ohio, through to Michigan, Connecticut, Vermont, New Jersey and New York, and in Canada only in the province of Ontario, in particular the cities of Toronto, Ottawa, North Bay, and Windsor (I may be missing a state or two -- probably Pennsylvania -- sorry trillian! ).The Canadian government says lightning and a fire at a Niagara Falls plant on the NY side began a cascade of stations shutting down. I heard that things were mostly calm, although not so calm in Detroit. Lotsa Light to everyone affected!! And literally, too!!!! Actually I think I'll send a little cool weather south, so those air conditioners don't have to run full blast and prompt such outages! Lunargirl IP: Logged |

Detroit, will never be calm, whether they have light or not,or should I call them"Detriot"!As in Pennsylvania, only Erie county got hit,we're OK! Canada, doesn't really know just of yet what the cause was,but the FBI here is investagating it right now,to see what happened, but we shouldn't "jump the gun". IP: Logged |

Wow, hadn't heard about the miners -- what a nightmare!Apparently the main problem in Detroit is a water shortage -- they're asking people to conserve water, as some areas have none, etc. Okay, let's see... Aug. 14th... let's do the er, pregnancy math... Lotsa little May babies to come, I betcha! (heee, proxieme, i join you in juvenility cause it's FUN!) prox, you rule. medal of honor huh? rawk i wish you were on aim more i did so want to chat. ya know, i wonder how long this fallout from 9/11 will last. every time anything happens, its always 'oh no, another terrorist attack'. natural events do occur, and i hate living in a state of paranoia. its the medias fault. as soon as anything on a large scale happens, they are the ones that immediately start inferring that it had something to do with terrorism. like when the shuttle went down. i was watching the news (probably cnn) and thats one of the first things they said about it! its not healthy to be living in a constant state of paranoia and on the defensive, s**t does happen whether its caused by 'terrorists' or not. i just hate that its the knee jerk cause of everything. *sigh* its kinda like the boy who cried wolf. not that i dont understand why people would immediately wonder if it *was* terrorist activity, just for gods sake, the media should just not report something unless they have confirmation. no need to get people all nervous for nothing. ~anafaery ps juvinility rawks ------------------ where i end and you begin there's a gap in between there's a gap where we meet where i end and you begin and i'm sorry for us the dinosaurs roam the earth the sky turns green where i end and you begin i am up in the clouds i am up in the clouds and i can't and i can't come down IP: Logged |

Good to see everyone online! Detroit and surrounding areas,ie Ann Arbor, Lansing up to Mt Pleasant & K-Zoo are out and water is a definate problem. They say late Sunday into Monday to get it all restored Oxychick, any good storys to share? So good to see you up & running. Can you go to work today? I am just in awe of New Yorkers and their ability to respond with such patience and calm Yes, Oz. Detroiters could take some cues from them. My daughter is in the area and out of power. I`m not worried as she was raised a country girl and is always prepared for such emergencies. She has taken in some families to share what she has. She`s a nuturing Cancer and she thrives on helping others Prayers to all still out and may they be safe and in the lite. Have the miners been rescued? juniperb

Juniperb, your daughter is a born nurturer? Of course she is, she's from nurturing stock. Well, we spent the rest of day living it up at a bar my friend owns. so free, cold beer. we were drinking out in the street pracitaclly...but everyone was so calm and actually just enjoyng it. Luckily, a bunch of my friends got in touch with me (fnally, after a few hours of cell phone hell) to offer to let me stay with them. Even got a call from someone I haven't spoken to in so long, which really, really made me so happy. So people were walking all around..in the streets, no traffic lights. The people I felt very badly for were the ones stuck in the subways without air conditioning. But they were able to lead people out (as we saw some of them being taken out from underground). I got a few pictures too. We then walked 40 blocks with the intention of walking across the bridge, but a bus came instead (talk abut luck). The stumble, er, walk back was a fun one. Nope, I checked my voicemail today and got the happy message that no one expects us to go to work. I think today is a perfect day for some reading and relaxing. IP: Logged |
