Listen to the MUSTN'TS, child,
Listen to the DON'TS
List to the SHOULDN'TS
The IMPOSSIBLES, the WON'TS
Listen to the NEVER HAVES
Then listen close to me-
Anything can happen, child
ANYTHING can be.

-Shel Silverstein

I love him.

I used to have a record (yes, a record) of Where the Sidewalk Ends on which he spoke, sang, and gaffawed his way through a number of his own poems.
I can still hear his voice rising in hope at the end of this one.

(So WHAT if this should've gone into "For Yellow Wax and the Ants"...I wanted to show it to everyone )

What you up to tonight, Juni?

If you are a dreamer, come in,
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer. . .
If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire
For we have flax-golden tales to spin.
Come in!
Come in!

*says prox, as she moseys down memory lane, waiting for her hair to dry and getting ready for tonight...and notices that she spelled "Shel Silverstein" wrong... *

You can buy Where the Sidewalk Ends on cd. Shel released ten or eleven albums. You can find most / ? of them on cd. It was a great loss when he died.

For all you old timers...
Did you know Shel Silverstein wrote almost all the songs for Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show??

Great poet...and it thrills me that my children like his work as well.

I used to buy "The Giving Tree" for dear friends...perhaps it's something I should begin again.

My favorite poem is DEFINITLEY:
Someone ate the baby..
Someone ate the baby, its rather sad to say,
someone ate the baby, she wont be out 2 play
I don't know who would go and (burp) eat the baby
Not his best poem, but funny nonetheless
