I have a question for anyone who can answer it. Anyways here it goes, about 3 months ago i started losing weight and at the time i was taking taekwondo and lifting weights, in july though i stopped taking taekwondo and lifted the weights occasionally, and now i very rarely lift weights i have somewhat of a toned stomach and i am still losing weight, I am 6'5 inches tall and i weigh 172.9 and i eat right and everything, My question though is did i possibly put my metabolism into over drive or is it a sign of something else? I really need to know because i am fitting into 32 inch waist shorts and pants and i havent been able to in a long time.IP: Logged |

Hi Jacob My guess is you've definitely exercised your metabolism! I did the same thing-I plumped up a bit last year after my thyroid incident and in the past 2 months alone I've lost at least 8 lbs from eating better and working out a bit and other activities. I'm fitting clothes I haven't fit in years. It's a great feeling. Definitely keep it up! A healthy regimen does wonders for your metabolism. You might also want to post this in the Health and Healing forum. IP: Logged |

Hi -- metabolic revving is good in general, but, by doing weights, you aren't supposed to lose any weight -- just transfer it into muscle mass. That's why those who stop doing weights don't usually experience a weight gain from that alone, as the mass just goes back to flab that's more or less the same weight as before. The taekwondo and eating right may have more to do with your changes than anything else. Although since you don't mention the rate at which you're losing weight, or how much you had to lose to begin with, there's no way to say what is healthy for you or not. A hyperactive thyroid can trigger big weight changes. When I had that, I lost 13 lbs in a week without trying, due to a metabolism that was rushing food through my system too quickly (not a good thing, folks -- you can imagine how this was happening!). It's a serious condition that should not go unattended. Go see a doctor, or at the very least, talk to at least two or three personal trainers. And preferably someone who knows you well. Good luck. Muscle burns fat. Plus, (if you've already mentioned, ignore) have you "weighed" yourself? Or are you just looking at clothing size reduction? IP: Logged |
