A study just came out that describes the part of the human brain where emotions come from. Interestingly, that part of the brain is LARGER in dogs! So, when you think your dog loves you, you're right.

I always thought it was "interesting" that the word DOG is GOD re--versed. Humans could definitely learn something about the kind of love they show us...unconditional, loyal, humble.

P.S. They don't talk back either!!

It is obvious how much dogs love. They are beautiful pack animals and when we become the leader of their pack, we have their undying loyalty and love forever.

I have been touched by every dog I have owned and by almost every dog I worked with in various animal hospitals. I have always felt more of a kinship to animals that people, because people can betray you in a second, but a dog loves forever.(Please don't get me wrong, I really love people, but animals just needs us more because they don't have a voice that most people are willing to listen to).

I had a dog, Apricot, that lived for 15 years. She was my best friend and went with me everywhere. She died when I was 19 of old age and passed in her sleep. She was always there for me and listened when I cried when my parents got divorced and hear countless stories of my latest troubles. LOL.. I know she is in heaven and someday I will see her again.

I've heard it said that dogs don't really love people, they just depend on them, but I know that is not true. A couple of years ago I went on an Archaeological dig for two months. It was very remote and I couldn't take my dog along. He was 8 years old at the time and I have had him since he was only 6 weeks old. The poor thing got so depressed when I was gone that he almost died. He was in our same home with my husband and son, whom he has lived with all his life, but he just went down like a rock. He lost most of his hair and wouldn't eat. I was out in the wilderness and could not come home until the dig was over. He was so thin and pathetic by the time I got home, he looked like he had been run over with a lawn mower. The vet told my family there was no way he was going to make it. When I got home, he just laid on my feet and cried (I mean actual tears rolling down his little snout). I can't tell you how much I cried to see his suffering (and I still get misty just thinking about it). After that, he started to get better every day. Within a week he looked like a different dog. Now, a few months short of his 11th birthday, he is fat, furry, and the happiest little creature on earth. Needless to say, I never left him again and I never will. PS - the two cats did pretty well while I was gone, but they scratched up all my work boots when I got back.

I creatures.

They touch my heart and soul on levels I can't possibly articulate.

I wish I could communicate with them the way the Pet Psychic does.

When people ask if I have children, I say '"yes, furry ones!"

I have always had 2 or 3 dogs at a time, but one has affected me more than the others. Someone wrapped him up in barbed wire and threw him out of their car window. After being rescued and spending months healing with the SPCA, he ended up with me. Been about 5 years now. I call him my "spiritual guide dog". I might as well confess, his name is KEY. We are close, very very close. This dog can feel everything I am feeling.

My dog thinks I'm his project or something- he gets even madder than my mum if I do something wrong or stay out too late. And he yells at me in doggy-talk. I think he took a course in Tough Love or somehting. Sheesh!

oh, speaking of animals, i just read this book called Vegan- the New ethics of Eating, by Erik Marcus. It made me cry. Sometimes I really think the world would be a better place without people.

Another knowflake shared this & I thought this was the perfect place for it.

If you can start the day without caffeine,

If you can get going without pep pills,

If you can always be cheerful,
ignoring aches and pains,

If you can resist complaining and
boring people with your troubles,

If you can eat the same food every
day and be grateful for it,

If you can understand when your loved
ones are too busy to give you any time,

If you can overlook it when those you love
take it out on you when, through no fault
of yours, something goes wrong,

If you can take criticism and
blame without resentment,

If you can ignore a friend's limited
education and never correct him,

If you can resist treating a rich friend
better than a poor friend,

If you can face the world
without lies and deceit,

If you can conquer tension
without medical help,

If you can relax without liquor,

If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,

...Then You Are Probably
The Family Dog!

That's so sweet!

On a similar note, here's one I had printed and posted near my computer a while back:

IF A DOG WERE TO TEACH YOU HOW TO LIVE, YOU WOULD LEARN:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Allow the experience of fresh air and wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.

Let others know when they've invaded your territory.

Take naps and stretch before rising.

Run, romp and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting, when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.

When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout...run right back and make friends.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you've had enough.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you're not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

Can asthmatic people have dogs?

I love both cats and dogs, so when I tried owning a cat it gave me a bush-load of asthma attacks. Even when I tried taking medicine it wouldn't go away. So my mom was forced to take the cat and bring it to my grandmother's house. I should've known better because once I had to go to the hospital due to playing with a cat. I still love cats though, because I still pet them when I see one on occasion.

However, I do not know how I am with dogs. Dogs have more distinguished breeds than cats do. Even a person with the worst allergies have a dog out there for them. Maybe I should think about finding a dog that could be with me. I have no I idea how my asthma will effected by one.

Hi Star, can you go to your local animal shelter and just visit? That may give you an idea. It`s the dander we`re allergic too rather than the hair & length. Good luck

I know! It's the dander that the fur animals produce. Yes, I'm very well aware of that problem.
Once I did try to test myself to see how I'd be effected. I was petting a dog numerous times and then I purposely scratched my eyes to see if it would get red and itch. But it didn't so ever since then I've been holding out hope. But I haven't had much exposure to dogs to be perfectly sure.
I even entertained the idea of getting a labratory cat or dog the kinds that are made to never give you allergies. But I guess that would be harsh for the animal. So I'm in a sad position. Maybe someday I'll learn to heal my asthma!

This is my dream dog!

P.S. As I was writing this post I didn't even realize that on the television it was giving 101 Dalmations! Wow, I hope that's a good omen.

Oh god isn't she gorgeous!

I believe they're called Finnish Spitz, weird name for a such lovely dog. The only problem is she's a rather high shedder.

I've read that poodles and chiwawas are good for asthmatic people. But they don't attract me as much as the furry ones do.

This one is what she looks like when she`s 'blowing her coat'. All that beautiful hair goes poof all over the house. It`s called being in her underwear

(not Chloe but an accurate pic from the web. I don`t know how to do my pics).

Wow, I'm glad her hair doesn't bother your allergies, it would have for some people. Do cats bother you? And do you have experience with someone who has asthma?

Oh Wonderful Topic! I love to hear everyone's stories here. And now I shall share mine. I have had pets my whole life, and no pet or human has touched me like my "Hope".
My darling Hope was and will always be the Love of my Life .
I had this sweet, little girl Cocker Spaniel for only 1 year and 7 months. I have not loved any human or animal as much or in the way that I love her.
I lost Hope to cancer. I will never get over her and I think about her all the time. She was the cutest, most fun, happy, silly, funny, friendly dog.
I know her Spirit is with me but it is not the same. I pray to her often.
I adopted a new little puppy 1 week after I lost her because I got a call that her cremation was ready and I could not stop crying. Getting that call was even harder than putting her to sleep. I have her ashes buried underneath the plum tree with a statue of an angel, a cocker spaniel statue, a Lily plant, and a plaque I made that says "Baby Hope, We Love You".
You can read all about her and see her pictures at my website. If you go there, click on "My Pets & I", "Special Update on Hope", "Hope's Fairy", and then "Star Jasmine" where you can see my new puppy who is now 6 months old.
http://www.geocities.com/jovettemarie/

Thanks for letting me share

P.S. My new puppy, Jasmine and I are currently attending Puppy Agility classes.

Agility for Dogs is kind of like a course they have to do perfectly and timed. They go through a tunnel, do jumps, weave poles, A-frame, shoot, and teeter totter. They are supposed to touch marked points or "target" to get a good score and finish the best time.
Puppy Agility, they are just learning each routine/stunt. So far Jasmine has done the tunnel, jump (they keep the bar on the ground because puppies joints aren't developed enough yet to prevent injury), A-frame, shoot, weave poles and teeter totter. The puppies get distracted easily. Last class Jasmine saw 3 horses for the first time so she just kept staring at them and couldn't do some routines.
