Anyone has some? Have you toyed with the idea? Your general opinion?

I like them Well, as long as they aren't profane and I think when getting one, a person should really think about why they are doing it and what it means.

I have an Apache war shield tattooed on the inside of my right ankle. It has a Thunderbird in the middle of the shield with 3 large feathers around the shield itself. It measures about 3 inches wide at the fullest part of the circle and about 5 inches long from top of the shield to the bottom point of the longest feather.

I got the tattoo because of my heritage and the Thunderbird is the keeper of the fire clan (Sag, Leo and Aries) as well as the sacred bearer of eternal happiness and protection.

I have been thinking of getting another tattoo at the small of my back. It would be a Medicine wheel with a tomahawk and peacepipe crossing in the middle. I still have to finish the drawing, but I would also include the sign for each element - fire, water, earth and air.

I find them extremely sexy if a girl has them but only if she has one.if she has more then one it is a turn off.
I am thinking of having one but the problem is that they are expensive.I would like one of the sun on my shoulder blade.

I'm all in favor of them. I have a few ideas for myself too.

I'm into the idea of the Libran scales, even though I'm not that strong with Libran placements, because I really need the balance that they represent, and having that tattoo placed on me would help remind me to stay in that balance more easily, lol.

I'd also be into the Wiccan pentagram that has all of the elements represented by the different points in it, as well as having the top point of it which represents Spirit.

But then, I also think of getting the Pisces Fish, the Aqua Water Bearer, and the Taurus Bull engraved on me too though, since that is my Moon/Sun/Rising combo.

So yes, I definitely like them for their expressional value, that's for sure.

But I agree, you do have to be positive and sure about what you put on yourself before you have it all done, that's true.

I have a tattoo on the small of my back that I designed.(a pixie) I don't agree that only one is sexy and anything beyond that isn't. I think it depends on where they are placed, the nature of them, and what they mean to the person. I was looking for a picture of the design to post, but I can't find it. When I do, i'll post it. I love the individuality of tattoos and that each person has a story that goes along with their choice if you ask them... as Pidaua has explained hers. Playful pondering fishmoon~ Maybe instead of the zodiac pictures, you could use the glyphs? They are quite beautiful, and you can use all your ideas in a creative way without the tattoo looking cluttered...? Just a suggestion. I think I will get another one, but I have to think long and hard about the significance and beauty of it before I commit. My husband had a sweet little lizard on his shoulder when we met, and we went together to get these ones...my pixie and he got Kangi, in black, mandarin letters representing our daughters name on his upper bicep. I love it, so maybe thats where I'd go next, although I'd have to get both my children. Go ahead and express yourself, it is your body after all, who else has to know?

I have two tattoos, I love them and don't care whether anyone thinks they are cool or sexy or not! I don't have them for anyone but me.

On one ankle is the symbol for yin/yang, which reflects the closest thing I have to a philosophy of life.

On the other ankle is a lovely green and purple fairy.

I wouldn't do it. I'm too inconsistant with what I want from one day to the next (sun/moon opposition people can be that way, you know). So, I'd probably want it removed shortly after I got it. Then, I'd want a different one.

Of course, I would have a great deal of difficulty choosing one in the first place, so that's another reason why it would never happen.

That, and that when I'm 68, I'll feel rather silly at the church tea with my tattoo contrasting sharply against my polyester floral and lacy blouse, or deformed beyond recognition on my 6 inch thick ankle.

Of course, at that rate, a tatoo, or lack thereof isn't going make a bit of difference, I spose. Nah, not for me. Although I think every single one of my freinds has one, except my Aqua/Leo moon best bud. She feels the same as me about them. Coincidence? I think no.

Hi Prox,

The clans stem from american indian astrology and the "medicine wheel"

The clans are as follows:

Butterfly: Air: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius
Frog: Water: Pisces, Cancer and Scorpio
Turtle: Earth: Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn
Thunderbird: Fire: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius

The Spirit Keepers of the Directions are as follows:

Shawnodese: Keeper of the South, represented by the coyote and rules summer - beginning with the summer solstice.

Waboose: Keeper of the North, represented by the white buffalo and rules winter - beginning with the Winter Solstice

Wabun: Keeper of the East, represented by the Golden Eagle and rules Spring - beginning with the Spring Equinox.

Mudjekeewis: Keeper of the West, represented by the Grizzly bear and rules Autumn.

Each keeper rules three moon cycles for example I was born under the Long Snow Moon and my keeper is Mudjekeewis. My clan is the Thunderbird clan and I am represented by the Elk, obsidian and the spruce.

pixelpixie,

Thanks for the advice, lol. But I was actually thinking of getting those tattoos inscribed in different places if I really decided to go ahead and do it, like the Fish symbol on one ankle, the Water Bearer symbol on the other ankle, and perhaps the Bull symbol on my belly or something, I don't know, lol.

But I don't know, maybe I'll just keep it to one design anyway, those scales for balance being my only choice in these body arts instead.

We'll see.

Playful,

I don't really know how to ask this, but if you are thinking of a belly tattoo, are you done having kids? If not, then the tattoo will stretch out along with your belly and won't look right when the belly gets back into shape. My friend has one and as she gained weight (not from a baby, but from food) her tattoo swelled as well and looked weird.

I talked to my dude the other day and I think I might fill in the medicine wheel with the saggie glyph intertwined with the Leo glyph. I already sketched it out and I think it looks damn cool. I would still incorporate the rest of the medicine wheel, but I think the signs will have a better feel that a peacepipe and tomahawk. We'll see though...LOL

Pid,

Lol, no, actually I haven't even started to have kids yet, and I hadn't thought of something happening like you mentioned there yet, so thanks for the advice.

It looks like my shoulder blade or some other body part might be getting colored on when the time comes instead then, lol.

It was so good to read about your tattoos. I have been thinking about having one for quite some time (years, actually).

Lioneye,

I've also been thinking that 'when I'm 68...' and decided that it shouldn't make any difference then. My Leo/Gem Moon friend is similar to you. She says that she wouldn't want to carry a symbol she has outgrown from. And she is determined to outgrow anything.

Pidaua,

Thank you for all that info. Very interesting. That background makes any symbol somewhat more profound.

Pixelpixie,

Cool! I wish I could design something myself, but I think I better leave it to someone more gifted than me.

Trillian,

If the tattoo is well chosen and represents what the person is, then people who are put off by it are not good for the person anyway.

I was also wondering what were the astrological hallmarks of tattoos. Aries or Scorpio in rising? Mars or Pluto aspecting the Asc.? Would any of these apply to you?

Hi Aen,

Hmmm, Pluto aspecting the Ascendent. Yep, I have Pluto conjuncting my ascendent - which gives me a bit of a Scorpio rising type of flavor (along with my Virgo rising). I also have an Aries moon in my 7th house that reinforces the martian quality.

I used to not want a tattoo because I'm too fickle. It would have to be something that would never change. So I decided I'm going to get the Gemini symbol, because no matter what happens and how much I change, I will always be a Gemini. And so I won't get tired of seeing it every day, I'll get it on my back.

I have one. It is a black thorny vine with 3 roses. Each rose is different, one is closed, one is open a little and a side view, and one is open fully. It is on my thigh.

I am booked in to get my first tattoo tomorrow afternoon. The tattooist is designing for me when I get there but I can not decide for the life of me whether to get an ankh or a paw print. Eventually I will get both. What do you think of having the ankh tattooed?? I have always been drawn to the symbol and I love what it represents. Any thoughts?

More power to you, if you have always been drawn to it, and If you love what it represents, it seems like the right choice to me. Good luck and enjoy the process.... both in selection and procedure!

A paw print!! That's so cool and funny! A bear's paw print tat on your back or bum! (or thigh) That's priceless, somebody should do that.
Ozone, your tat sounds cool.

majenta,

Congragulations on your tattoo. You won't hear any complaints from this Pisces moon on your decision to forego your first two choices and go for the Pisces signature instead, lol.

I am thinking of getting one of those symbols tattooed on myself one day too.

So did having it done hurt very much? How long did it take to inscribe? And are you still in any pain?

Thanks for answering if you have time!
