I love musicals and have been frequent exposed to them since childhood...My all-time Fav is "Showboat"!! I saw it at 7.5 years old performed in Toronto, and we immediately bought the soundtrack. I sang it walking around the playgound that year in grade school: Imagine an 8 year old little girl with long blonde hair softly singing... "Fish gotta swim and birds gotta fly, I gotta love one man til I die...Can't help lovin' dat man a' mine" Very Aries, now that I look back on it. I just recently (after having lost and scratched the original years ago) bought the another CD of that exact cast performance over half.com... Anyway, my top picks are: 1) Showboat 2) Guys and Dolls 3) Flower Drum Song 4) Sound of Music 5) King and I 6) Moulin Rouge and the list could go on... So what are everyone elses favs? Let's share and reminesce. ------------------ -K "Most people love with restraint As if they were someday to hate We hated gently, carefully As if we were someday to love"-Venus Trines at Midnight IP: Logged |

Nice picks, prox. Why do you conclude that you were an odd child? I watched all of those during my childhood too, and even had the chance to be a part of a school production on Annie, which was a blast...------------------ -K "Most people love with restraint As if they were someday to hate We hated gently, carefully As if we were someday to love"-Venus Trines at Midnight IP: Logged |

Because I mean as a *small* child...I'd be there at three years old glued to the TV through the entirety of Fiddler on the Roof...that's a long-arse movie. IP: Logged |

Well, Trillan, it was a good story I almost typed 'southsidehamo' which the username always reminds me of the movie.Guess it`s that Aquarian thing I have going as I ment Westside Story in the first place. I told you all I needed spring and fast. juniperb ------------------ If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans. ~James Herriot IP: Logged |

Yeah, I guess that I should add that by default I know a great many of the songs in both "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Guys and Dolls". My husband, you see, gets fixated on some things sometimes...and I'll just say that there're few things like cruising down the road in a '73 Super Beetle listening to showtunes... Gotta love my Aqua IP: Logged |

Op, Mary Poppins... I forgot that one (and it may have been the one that I watched most of all...) Except Bednobs and Broomsticks I watched that one pretty incessently, too.So, my favorite *childhood* musicals were/are: *Fiddler on the Roof *Annie *Mary Poppins *Bednobs and Broomsticks *Sound of Music And let me assure you that there are few things more obnoxious than a 4-year-old breaking into, "It's a Hard-Knock Life" whenever her Mom wants her to do a chore. Great to hear everyone.... Oh, and , prox, about the "Hard Knock Life" thing and chores when you were a wee one... I also LOVE Andrew Lloyd Webber's music ever since the school band which I was in did an "Andrew Lloyd Webber Concert Celebration" piece with the choir...it was amazing to be in the middle of that much passionate music, most of which I'd never heard before, aside from Joseph and the Amzing Technicolor Dreamcoat. No one's mentioned: *Phantom of the Opera *My Fair Lady *Cinderella (rogers and hammerstein version) *Porgy and Bess These are neat ones too! ------------------ -K "Most people love with restraint As if they were someday to hate We hated gently, carefully As if we were someday to love"-Venus Trines at Midnight IP: Logged |
