I've always wondered do they work?
Are there any success stories?

You mean like

"I'm good enough...and people like me" ?

Yeah, I think they work, if you take them seriously, and don't think about what a tool you must look like talking to yourself in the mirror. It operates under the same principle as negative affirmations (oxymoron anyone?)....You should never say negative, condemning things about yourself/your life because the words come out your mouth, go in your own ears, and settle somewhere in your own subconscience, where they become irrational beliefs. See, your subconscience isn't really concerned with reality as it is. It's only interested in it's own version of reality, which, as we know, can be quite distorted. It other words, we hang ourselves with our own tounges.

So, the same principle holds true for affirmations. The words come out your mouth, go into you ears, and spearhead themselves into the subconscience, feeding it lots of nice, healthy "reality" altering sentiments. No matter what you do in life, you have to believe you can do it first.

So, yeah. I think they do.

And now...I think I've sold myself on the idea too! Got any goods one to share?

Yes, they do.

And lioneye is right--avoid "negative affirmations." Even to say "I want to lose weight" needs to be rephrased, because all The Universe hears is that you want to be a loser!

I'd like to recommend a book that I recently discovered, that I find to be a tremendous help. It's called "The 15 Minute Miracle."
It's based on the premise that focusing on and writing your desires for fifteen minutes a day enables you to realize all your dreams, make them manifest. It's easy and fun to read.

It's about creating abundance in your life.

Here's a link. http://www.15minutemiracle.com/

Thanks Trillian, I`ll give it a look.

I start my day with mine: Where God/dess is, I am and all is well. It sooths me nerves for another earth day.

Wow, Trillian...I read something about that as well, that the way you phrase your affirmation is critical, that you should phrase it in a way that suggests you already have want you want, and you are thankful, rather than saying "I want to be slimmer", because just the energy that is sent out into the universe by the phrase "I WANT" is the confirmation that there is a LACK. Whatever your are telling the universe is what it manifests for you, so don't express your desires as a lack, but rather as an already foregone conclusion of having it.

More to say, but have to go for now...

There's a book called Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting about this type of thing ~ the author literally talks about being in a "zone" where you're completely at peace, making things happen (she was unwittingly doing it for a little while). She shares examples from her own life, both positive and negative.

Also, Write It Down, Make It Happen is a very positive book ~ it's one of those books that's very nice and inspiring to read.

Manifest Your Destiny by Wayne Dyer is another favourite of mine.

Trill is soooo right. Your subconcious doesn't understand a negative. So don't say "I don't want to be fat" say "I am skinny"

As the Good Nazarene said, "pray as if you had already recieved it and you shall surely have it".

A morning affirmation is a good thing. I like yours Juni . I always say "Rejoice, for this is the day the Lord hath given". First thing before anything else comes out of my mouth. Reminds me how lucky I am to be in this crazy daisy school we call Life. Also reminds me that whatever the day brings - good or bad - it's all for a reason and it's all in God's hands.
