Did you run an antivirus software? When computers "go mad", that could be the problem. Good luck fixing it!IP: Logged |

I found out my computer was infected with other things too. Just being online is dangerous for your computer nowadays.-StarLover IP: Logged |

good, StarLover, I also downloaded the worm update from microsoft. You should set up the firewall in your comp in order to lessen further virus atacks ( start/contr panel/network/dial-up/settngs/firewallIP: Logged |

Does anyone know what a retina-scanner is? I was told it may be on my computer and I can`t find anything much about it. Thanks! ------------------ If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans. ~James Herriot IP: Logged |

uuuuhhhh.. as far as i know a retina scanner is a device used for security. Like you see in the movies.. a laser lookin light thingy literally scans your eyes. Everyones eyes are different, like fingerprints. I don't see how a retina scanner could be on your computer unless you had the specific hardware for it, which you apparently don't. They don't come standard on a home computer, that's for sure. That is, if a retina scanner is what I think it is. I could be wrong.------------------ The role of religion is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. :::P.T. Barnum IP: Logged |

Harpyr, thanks! I didn`t know the eye scan thing was a reality. Kinda scarey. This seems to be part of a computers security system so keys can`t be changed (so I understand on a very basic unknowing level ) It may have come with my anti virus system. I still am trying to figure it out. How are you doing? juniperb ------------------ If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans. ~James Herriot IP: Logged |

Speaking of eye-scanners, Microsoft is hard at work on a new operating system called Palladium, and one of their grand designs is to introduce biometric security measures. In other words, you would have to identify yourself to your computer by thumbprint-scan, eye-scan, or something similar. Those of you who have never read '1984' by George Orwell or 'Brave New World' by Aldous Huxley, I urge you to do so now. dafreman speaks of the Beast. If it has to do with computers, Microsoft is the Beast, and Bill Gates is the AntiChrist. IP: Logged |

Welcome Paras, I`ve read Orwell and Huxley; a good read. I~ve also heard the theory of the computer & the WWW being the value of 666 & the beast. I hadn`t heard Gates was the AntiChrist tho. juniperb ------------------ If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans. ~James Herriot IP: Logged |

I was not speaking literally when I called Gates the AntiChrist. I was only being half-serious. But who knows?Tell me, JuniperB, do you, also, see parallels between '1984' or 'Brave New World', and the distrustful, security-conscious technological society that we are becoming? IP: Logged |

Hi Juni, I'm doin good. Abit dissapointed cause I planted some onions and potatoes about a week ago and last night it started snowing. arrrrgh! We've got about 6 inches and it's still going! Obviously I've yet to figure out the weather up here at 8,200 ft. I'm hoping the onions will live since they were pretty large already. They were just some onions that sprouted in my cubbard. The potatoes too. As for this security culture thing. It toootally freaks me out. I've read 1984 and we just keep creeping ever closer to that nightmare reality. *shudder* ------------------ The role of religion is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. :::P.T. Paras, yes I do a parallel between 1984 and today. Uncanny considering it was written in 1949! It`s odd in a sense, I have every security device on my computer, but I never lock my house doors or car doors. Perhaps it`s high tech/big brother I fear rather than the mundane crime minded individual. juniperb

Harpyr, onions & potatos have a stiff upper lip and I`ve seen them grow thru the snow. Snow is an insulater so it usually protects them from a freeze. My walking Egyptian onions got frosted to the soil but they`re shooting up again for another try. Let me know how it grows juniperb ------------------ If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans. ~James Herriot IP: Logged |
