Hi Everyone,I am hoping that somebody here can please answer a question for me when they have a chance to do it. Does anybody around here know anything concrete about how to go about legally copyrighting a poem at all? I am interested in beginning to display my work in various places online, but I also don't want anyone to get any ideas about stealing my poems and making some cash off of them either. Lol, I may have the Moon of a dreamy, poetic Pisces Fish, but I also have the Asc. of a practical, materialistic Taurus Bull too, lol. So, any and all advice will be very appreciated by me! Also, pixel, if you are reading this, I will try to get to that numerology write-up for you tomorrow if I can. I had some unbeliveable computer problems today concerning these very annoying pop up ads which wouldn't let up on my screen at all. Ok, thanks for all the help everybody! Playful

It costs $10 or so if you want government protection in court, but you automatically have a common-law copyright. The easiest way to ensure this is to mail it to yourself and leave it unopened (postmark proves creation date). ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Randall is right. But I copyrighted a book, it's not expensive nor is it time consuming. The forms are available for download. If you want to pursue that further, let me know and I'll get you the link.IP: Logged |

Trillian,THANK YOU so much. I would love to have the direct link so that I am able to have an official copyright for my work right now. And Randall, thanks for your advice too. I appreciate your reply a lot. But I am just kind of paranoid about protecting things like this, I guess.

I almost forgot, PPFM! http://www.copyright.gov/faq.html It took 7 or 8 months for me to get the certificate after mailing in all the forms, the book, etc. So I would advise you to do as Randall says, and mail yourself a few copies. Don't open them, put them in a safe place. I kept a copy in the refrigerator. Good luck! IP: Logged |

Most public liberaries also have the copywrite forms, in case one doesn't have a way to download from the computer.IP: Logged |

Wow, you guys are all so smart! I too, have many poems I've written. I go back and forth all the time, deciding if I want to share them with the world or not. If I did, I feel the same way, worried about the copyright. Thanks for the info. IP: Logged | |
