I know that Solstice is Latin for 'Sun Stands Still'I believe it's at it's highest at this point (around 20th) in the Northern hemisphere and stays there for more than 12 hours, so being the longest day. The rituals differ since ancient times, but most activity iin the UK is traditionally taken part at Stonehenge, Wiltshire as a tribal gathering and celebration. Although you aren't free to dance and light fires around the stones anymore, it is still tradition to practice this around this time. This is because of the way the sun shines through the alignment of the stones. This is meant to occur on Monday 21st June at 04.58. I'm unsure of all the details relating to the history of which stones etc. but I have been and there is a certain energy there for sure. Shakespeare's: "A Midsummer's Nights Dream" comes from the night of the summer solstice, as lots of you may know. It is said that on Midsummer Night elves and fairies come out in great numbers in this time of 'temporary insanity'! It is said that whatever you dream on the night of the Solstice, actually happens.. BloodRedMoon - I look forward to your posts around the 21st! ------------------ "You must be the change you wish to see in the world" Gandhi

Hi Aphrodite,Glad to see you back! How are you doing? Aaahh, the Summer Solstice is sad for me, my Dad's birthday is June 21, and he passed away 14 years ago and of course Father's Day is the 20th Anyhow, summer has already arrived, it's been 90-100 here in Marin this week so far. IP: Logged |

Spent last Summer Solistice in Aklaska, and had a ball! Food, drink, live music and conversation in the great outdoors. They also have huge wing-dings for Winter Solistice. Wish I were there now. Kim IP: Logged |

*sigh* Once, I think, but only very slightly and out of the corner of my eye. But they say May Day and Midsummer's Eve/Day are prime time elf watching days. Hope springs eternal. Yup, wedding anniversary. Just finishing up the first year. And may I say, it was a helluva year. IP: Logged |

Hey thanks for the info BloodRedMoon! Very cool pic too - that your kitchen? I love the whole agenda! When I get my own place I'm planning to get a wooden box rack in the kitchen, on the wall with different coloured candles, herbs and any other stuff I need for day to day 'rituals' Do you have a particular thing you do every year? I haven't really got into a routine myself since not many people around me take it in the 'spiritual' aspect.twinkletoes - nice to speak to you! Special ~ That was my kitchen in our previous apartment last year Right now I don't really have room in the new kitchen to set up and altar. It's too small! I need a nice place somewhere in the house to set one up... should buy a table for it. I have a cabinet in the bedroom there I keep all my herbs, figurines, incense, etc... but it's too tall to keep an altar on top We don't have anything specific we do. I just usually make a really great dinner and occasionally I'll find a public ritual to attend if I feel up to it.

Ahh the Summer Solistice - Happy Summer Solistice guys! Noone seems to be making a deal of it in the UK this year? Maybe it's cos I'm in central - seems like a normal day and not much TV coverage. Odd outside.. not hot, not cold, bit overcast, bit sunny, and sunrise was at 04.58 this morning - bet there's loooooads of people at Stonehenge right at this minute celebrating and not behind a desk at work Got my Isis/Osiris necklace on and feel slighty more empowered than usual, adamant that good thoughts shall precede all day! Gonna go back tonight and light some candles, and look at BRM's list to incorporate herbs and colour in the evening! Oh yes - the dreams! Last night I had the most horrific series of dreams, I shan't repeat because they were really disturbing. One place I kinda recognised, and one involved my dad being injured. Oh.. I know the tradition is that what you dream on Midsummer's night is meant to be true.. GEEZ I hope it isn't relevant to the PREVIOUS night!! Aaaaannyhoo.. gotta get back to the labour, while I send you guys love and sprinkle you with fairydust while ya sleep! BRM, may do the same and find a public celebration at lunch, must be one somewhere in central! twinkletoes - whatever you decide to do, have a ball! ------------------ "Be humble for you are made of earth. Sometimes y'know.. It's eerie. The sun is in Cancer today - maybe playing havoc with my Cancer moon? Not too clued, but maybe why I've been thinking about soul mates and all sorts of tear wrenching things last night! And whaddid I just do? Post something in ref. to a Soul mates book I read.. and there I was SummerSolsticesSummarising..Can't wait for the genius streak on Tuesday! ... Greetings Sagittarius Here is your horoscope for the week of June 21 through June 27 The Sun moves into Cancer on Monday, highlighting deep bonds, soul mate attraction, and also sex. It is also playing havoc with your credit arrangements and ability to raise capital. Gradually a new awareness is creeping over you, and you are beginning to understand something of what the universe is trying to tell you. As if to give you added insight, and a chance for really inspired action, Mercury also trines Uranus on Tuesday, and this brings a touch of genius to your affairs." Didn't mention freaky dreams on the night previous to the Solstice though?? ------------------ "Be humble for you are made of earth. Be noble for you are made of stars." Serbian proverb
