Dearest Philbird, I'm so sad to read of your loss. I tried to think of a few words to console you. It must be hard to live with the guilt of accidently killing poor Terry and Tara, especially as you were sitting at "Red Lobster" stuffing yourself with turtle soup. You asked if there is a heaven for turtles? This is what I think.... Terry and Tara were turtles, Sweet little twosome, I'm told, With dreams of living together... At least, until they grew old. These two little turtles were tiny, Only 1" by 1" - they were neat, Could have stayed that size for a lifetime, If not exposed to exceptional heat. As turtles, I guess they were helpless, When Philbird decided to cook, Now the two little turtles are ashes, Despite all the precautions they took. Now you ask "Is there a Heaven for turtles, A place for the big and the small, A place for the meek and mighty, And for those that can't walk, only crawl?" There are no "Red Lobsters" in Heaven, No heat lamps either, I'm told, There's really no need for them is there? It's hardly a place to be cold! 'Cos there are no real DANGERS in Heaven, Well, perhaps, I can think of a few, Like getting crushed by a much larger turtle, Or reincarnating to YOU!!!! Lots of Gia. IP: Logged |

Oh, my! SOOOOOOOOOOo many!!!! This is by FAR the best.It seems every would-be writer is jumping on the dead turtle bandwagon, and you know? Only a handful can really pull it off. It is a great tribute. Very clever and fun! As I said, by far the best! IP: Logged |

You guys... With that poem, and Pixlepixie's Critique, I'm sure we could have engravings made on the backs of stone garden turtles and make a MINT! The "Turtle Wax" Co's will be lining up around the block to get a piece of that action, better copywrite it Gia. IP: Logged |

I was worried for a split second that you'd be cross with me for poking fun at your loss. You know I'm sad about little Terry and Tara don't you? I've been thinking quite deeply about the life of turtles in captivity, big, deep, ponderous thoughts. More on that much later.... Gia IP: Logged |

Turtles in captivity?I was soaking in my bath tub the other night just pondering. Inhaling deeply the smells of my fragrant essential oils - that's all I was inhaling, I promise! I was pondering about us, the earth, the universe, and turtles in captivity. This is what came to mind... If you live in captivity, and you've always lived in captivity, that becomes all you know. It's your whole world, perhaps even your universe. So you make assumptions about the world that surrounds you. For somebody outside of your world looking in some of those assumptions may border on the ridiculous and have no foundation of truth. What if Terry and Tara thought that the heat lamp Philbird used was the sun? What, I wonder, did they think about Philbird placing them carefully on a purple plate? Could it be possible they thought that they were being abducted by an alien [Philbird] and given some kind of unusual examination? What possible conclusions did they come to about what may exist outside their space? Did they think that turtle end times were neigh when their sun went nuts shining day and night? Now, what if I use that analogy about us? Lets face it, looking back at history we made some bizzare assumptions and came to some pretty odd conclusions that went way beyond the ridiculous. Quantum physics is pushing the boundaries of our so called "normality" all the time. We are now aware of spaces beyond our space, but what if those spaces were not beyond our space at all, but within it? Our reality, as Daf says, is illusion based mainly about what we percieve and how. Though what if the illusion was an illusion also. Are we like those turtles in captivity? My husband has just read this. He's shaking his head, doing perculiar things with his eyes, and staring at me in the most pitying manner....... "What was that honey?" Okay, I promise I'll start taking the medication soon....and I'll start making dinner. "Can't you just "think" a dinner up instead? It's just an illusion anyway!" IP: Logged |

Gia, Just found this responce. You don't need medication at this time, I have ponderd these ideas since reading stuff about animals in captivity, and I'm already on medication! I have come to realize that I feel free, and that my pets are not. However I cannot just let all the birds go, they are an endangerd species, and would never survive even in the climate they came from, because of the distruction of the enviornment. It has also taken me four years to learn the exact science of keeping them alive. Many breeders are acclimating them to the AZ. climate because it's very close to their climate of origin, Australia. The birds are called Lady Gouldian Finches. You must visit www.ladygouldianfinch.com and you will see why people want to breed them! I have bred some in the past, but now I just have a few as pets.IP: Logged |

Pisces Girl, Sorry your turtle "Ran" away. Sometimes turtles run away because they don't feel loved BY THEIR GRANDPARENTS!!! Hint, hint.Gia, Oh yes! Lots and lots of suppliments! When we bred them we wouldn't sell them to anyone who wasn't familiar with the care of these birds. They can literally die overnight if they are stressed. We have 13, and more on the way, we don't have real names for them, but we know each of their personalities very well. If Carl and I are talking about them, we'll say stuff like our little girl or the nasty brother etc. We haven't lost a bird in 3 years! They eat better than we do! It's not a casual hobby. We love our birds dearly and spend a lot on their care. IP: Logged | |
