Ah yes babylonphoenix - was going to enquire about PABA at some point well done for bringing it up I haven't got Star Signs with me at work so can't remember how Linda discusses Vit E? ------------------ "Be humble for you are made of earth. Hi Babylonphoenix, Special,At first, I thought about not posting because all I ever seem to do is discuss supplements. However since nobody else answered your question, I felt perhaps I should make the effort. I take so many supplements that I'm sure if you were to shake me, I'd rattle! I do take Vitamin E and also PABA. Vitamin E. As an antioxidant is very important as Linda pointed out. It helps prevent so much damage in the body including cancer and cardiovascular disease. It aids circulation and tissue repair, promotes blood clotting and healing and even helps prevent cataracts and retrolental fibroplasia which is an accute eye disorder in premature infants. There are so many studies that show it's even more powerful than asprin for prevention of heart attacks. The d-alpha tocopherol form is the most potent. Please remember that vitamin E is a family of 8 related molecules that fall into two groups. As I said the above is more potent. You need Zinc in order to maintain proper levels of E in the blood. Do not take E and Iron at the same time. Inorganic forms of iron can destroy the E. People need to understand that supplements work in conjuction with one another. Just like your different body parts do. I think it's not just a simple case of taking E or PABA. I wonder how much E Linda really took because if you have Diabetes, you really should not over dose. Certainly no more than 1,200 int. units. PABA Is a basic constituent of folate. Great antioxidant as well, especially for the protection of sunburn. It also helps the gut in maintaining healthy flora, reduces inflammation, depression, helps arthritis and also, as some studies indicate, it will stop hair turning grey. Sulfa drugs often cause severe deficiency in PABA. Good Luck

Thank you for the kind words Special. It's not that I don't want to share. I just don't want to come across as someone who pushes supplements all the time. Which is kind of paradoxical, because I do. We are in a battle right now with the European Directives and what they would mean to ordinary people like you and I. They want to take away our right to buy natural supplements and re-classify them as medicines. Just so we are CLEAR about this. This means ANYTHING that changes, restores, corrects or modifies physiological function in the body. Just think about this one moment... It means everything natural. Homeopathy Bach Aromatherapy Vitamins Minerals Herbs The list is endless..... The directives say (article 5)from the year 2005, the following bio-available supplements will not be permitted. That means NATURAL SUPPLEMENTS. Calcium Vitamin E Selenium Magnesium Vitamin C WATCH OUT USA!!!! It's coming your way too. The American Medical Association has a history of prosecuting anyone whose practices they disagree with. No matter how successful the treatment maybe or inspite of evidence based solid scientific research. Did you think it ended with Wilhelm Reich? I thought it had too. We were wrong! In 1993 a woman called Sharon Smith was diagnosed with cancer. It had metastasised to the bone. She went to a well known alterantive practioner Dr.Lawrence H Taylor based in San Diego for treatment using alternatives. Within a few months, xrays showed her cancer had stopped spreading. She gained weight, she was no longer in pain, was more active. Her oncologist watched her carefully and was amazed. In March 1994 the police raided Dr Taylor's office, seizing his medicines because they were not FDA approved for the treatment of cancer. All requests by Sharon's lawyers and her oncologist were refused. A few months later Sharon died. Dr. Taylor was no longer able to help anybody. The Codex Alimentarius Commission is fighting for us. We need to act now. Start writing letters folks. Start fighting back because you know that good nutrition is fundamental to good health. Gia

Wow Gia, Everything you have said is right on. You are a knowledgable woman. You, remind me of my mother. Your post is exactly what she says. Like you, she is a supplement queen. She knows anything and everything about alternative health. Although I get annoyed with her health talk sometimes, I know everything she is saying is right. It is her life (health issues). I appreciate and take all of the supplements she gives me. She is a massage therapist and a... *shhh* colon hydrotherapist. Some people find that weird. And I don't feel like defending it right now. I'm sure you don't think it weird. But she also mentions what you were talking about. How more and more they are coming up against strong opposition from the AMA, trying to ban these practices. It's really too bad. The people in the medical field WANT to keep people sick - it's how they make money. It's big business. I know you know what I mean. It's really disheartening. She also has a friend who is into all kinds of different homeopathic medicines and what not. Who has cured someone of cancer and others of different kinds of diseases, that doctors said were incurable. I know one of the cases had alot to do with the person being put on a juice fast with lots of raw food. I don't remember all the details, sorry. Just thought I'd mention this. And also, I enjoy your posts. You are taking an active part in what you believe in. And I am with you 101% 26 IP: Logged |

Thank you.I don't think your mother is weird. I agree with her totally. What we feed ourselves obviously impacts our health. Since we can no longer expect to find all the nutrients we need in our food, we have to supplement in order to stay healthy. I am also a trained massage and Aromatherapist. I do not do colon hydrotherapy, however I do understand why it is used. It plays an important part in helping many people. I don't believe that it should be over used though. Some people over do it. Gia ~ I'm just another Knowflake enamored of you and your knowledge. I've been following your many informative posts and absorbing all the info I can. Now, I've got a question. I notice that you have mentioned the importance of vitamins working in conjunction with one another. As an everyday practice just to maintain health, do you champion the multi-vitamin or do you believe each should be taken on its own?thanks again for your wisdom IP: Logged |

Taking a good natural [ not synthetic] high potency multi-vitamin from a reptuable source, seems to be much easier for most healthy people. Don't forget minerals which are equally important. Sometimes for people suffering from restricted diets [ veggies ] or for those who are physically ill, further supplementation of more specific nutrients would most probably be helpful. Recent research points to the fact that minerals are best taken in multi formula due to the fact that after minerals enter the body, they kind of compete with one another for absorbtion. For example if you take too much zinc, it will stop copper absorbtion. Too much calcium, it can effect magnesium absorbtion - though not enough magnesium can work the other way. Balance is key. Fibre decreases the body's absorbtion of minerals. Take your fibre supplements, if you should need them, at a different time. Always seek good advice if you choose to take specific minerals as you really need to be careful. Like with anything, good or bad for you, BALANCE is the key. I take both a multi and other specific vitamins and minerals to help with different things. Size, weight, life style are also different considerations. Gia IP: Logged |
