Hi Dorkus,
I moved out when I was 18 (my b-day being in Decemeber meant a late start in kindergarten so I graduated HS at 18). As soon as I could I got a job and moved out- literally it was 3 months after graduation. I never looked back at living with my family again and I am now 34. I almost moved in with my mom in Idaho to start a business- this coming Sept. But she showed her old self again and brought up a well of memories that I couldn't take.Sooooo, my advice to you is to take the chance - BUT be well prepared. California is expensive and even though Sac is not as bad as San Fran or Orange Co, it is very expensive compared to Nevada. Please make sure you are aware of the living arrangements (if you get your own place make sure you know the rent, the area and the job potential). If you have a large enough student loan or scholarship you may be able to live on campus or use the extra for an Apt.
If you plan to live with your friends, make sure you at least have a way of getting a job. Friends are great, but patience only last so long before they realize someone is not pitching in the dough.
There are a couple of good websites for looking at Apts..
www.apartments.com www.apartmentguide.com
and you can also look at the crime stats in a particular area to ensure you are not renting in an unsafe neighborhood. In your case you already have some friends there, so it should be a lot easier.
Take care and don't hesitate to shout out to us.
I'm from Orange Co, Calif originally and had my own apartment 2 times there, moved up to Portland, OR and Vancouver, Wa - then to Annapolis, MD- got divorced- got my own place LOL..now I am getting ready to move back out west, this time to Arizona. So, I am kind of an old hand now at the relocation thing.
Good luck and I wish you the best!!!!
