Whiskey Lullaby Brad Paisley & Alison Krauss (Bill Anderson/Jon Randall)(Brad) She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette She broke his heart, he spent his whole life tryin' to forget We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind, Until the night. Chorus: He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger And finally drank away her memory Life is short but this time it was bigger Than the strength he had to get up off his knees We found him with his face down in the pillow With a note that said I'll love her till I die And when we buried him beneath the willow The angels sang a whiskey lullaby. (Both) La la la la la la la La la la la la la la. La la la la la la la La la la la la la la. (Alison) The rumors flew but nobody knew how much she blamed herself For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath She finally drank her pain away a little at a time But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind, Until the night. Chorus: (Both) She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger And finally drank away his memory Life is short but this time it was bigger Than the strength she had to get up off her knees We found her with her face down in the pillow Clinging to his picture for dear life We laid her next to him beneath the willow While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby. La la la la la la la La la la la la la la. --- Instrumental --- La la la la la la la La la la la la la la. --- Instrumental --- La la la la la la la La la la la la la la. La la la la la la la La la la la la la la...

Sarah Mclachlan "Angel"Spend all your time waiting for that second chance for a break that would make it okay there's always one reason to feel not good enough and it's hard at the end of the day I need some distraction oh beautiful release memory seeps from my veins let me be empty and weightless and maybe I'll find some peace tonight in the arms of an angel fly away from here from this dark cold hotel room and the endlessness that you fear you are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie you're in the arms of the angel may you find some comfort there so tired of the straight line and everywhere you turn there's vultures and thieves at your back and the storm keeps on twisting you keep on building the lie that you make up for all that you lack it don't make no difference escaping one last time it's easier to believe in this sweet madness oh this glorious sadness that brings me to my knees in the arms of an angel fly away from here from this dark cold hotel room and the endlessness that you fear you are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie you're in the arms of the angel may you find some comfort there you're in the arms of the angel may you find some comfort here Alison Krauss "Sitting At The Window Of My Room" I sat in the window of my room Watched you go away It was all I could do It was all I could do Your going away To leave me alone In all of this sorrow In this misery So look now, my darling I'll have to abandon All thought of you As your going away I still see your dear little head As it touched mine Saying goodbye, forever goodbye Those words you said to me have broken my heart Yes, they've broken my heart They were false and did lie Goodbye, my dear Goodbye forever Your going away Your going away Death is hard But your leaving is worse Oh yes, my dear Your leaving is worse Your going, my dear Your going forever And leaving me all alone in all of this grief So how, my dear How will I forget you When I see your face wherever I go When I close my eyes It's sad though I see you Your beautiful blue eyes, your beautiful lie I sat in the window of my room, And watched you go away, It was all I could do, It was all I could do Sort of sad, pretty: Jane Siberry with k.d.lang "Calling All Angels" Santa Maria, Santa Teresa, Santa Anna, Santa Susannah Santa Cecilia, Santa Copelia, Santa Domenica, Mary Angelica Frater Achad, Frater Pietro, Julianus, Petronilla Santa, Santos, Miroslaw, Vladimir and all the rest a man is placed upon the steps, a baby cries and high above the church bells start to ring and as the heaviness the body oh the heaviness settles in somewhere you can hear a mother sing then it's one foot then the other as you step out onto the road how much weight? how much weight? then it's how long? and how far? and how many times before it's too late? calling all angels calling all angels walk me through this one don't leave me alone calling all angels calling all angels we're cryin' and we're hurtin' and we're not sure why... and every day you gaze upon the sunset with such love and intensity it's almost...it's almost as if if you could only crack the code then you'd finally understand what this all means but if you could...do you think you would trade in all the pain and suffering? ah, but then you'd miss the beauty of the light upon this earth and the sweetness of the leaving calling all angels calling all angels walk me through this one don't leave me alone callin' all angels callin' all angels we're tryin' we're hopin' we're hurtin' we're lovin' we're cryin' we're callin' 'cause we're not sure how this goes IP: Logged |

I'm a big Sarah McLachlin fan, too!Ice The ice is thin come on dive in underneath my lucid skin the cold is lost, forgotten Hours pass days pass time stands still light gets dark and darkness fills my secret heart forbidden... I think you worried for me then the subtle ways that I'd give in but I know you liked the show tied down to this bed of shame you tried to move around the pain but oh your soul is anchored The only comfort is the moving of the river You enter into me, a lie upon your lips offer what you can, I'll take all that I can get only a fool's here... I don't like your tragic sighs as if your god has passed you by well hey fool that's your deception your angels speak with jilted tongues the serpent's tale has come undone you have no strength to squander The only comfort is the moving of the river You enter into me, a lie upon your lips offer what you can, I'll take all that I can get only a fool's here to stay only a fool's here to stay only a fool's here... In My Secret Life Leonhard Cohen I saw you this morning. You were moving so fast. Can’t seem to loosen my grip On the past. And I miss you so much. There’s no one in sight. And we’re still making love In My Secret Life. I smile when I’m angry. I cheat and I lie. I do what I have to do To get by. But I know what is wrong. And I know what is right. And I’d die for the truth In My Secret Life. Hold on, hold on, my brother. My sister, hold on tight. I finally got my orders. I’ll be marching through the morning, Marching through the night, Moving cross the borders Of My Secret Life. Looked through the paper. Makes you want to cry. Nobody cares if the people Live or die. And the dealer wants you thinking That it’s either black or white. Thank G-d it’s not that simple In My Secret Life. I bite my lip. I buy what I’m told: From the latest hit, To the wisdom of old. But I’m always alone. And my heart is like ice. And it’s crowded and cold In My Secret Life. Nackie

You Will Be My Ain True LoveYou'll walk unscathed through musket fire, No ploughman's blade will cut thee down, No cutler's horn will mark thy face And you will be my ain true love, And you will be my ain true love And as you walk through death's dark veil, The cannon's thunder can't prevail, And those who hunt thee down will fail, And you will be my ain true love, And you will be my ain true love. Asleep inside the cannon's mouth, The captain cries, "Here comes the rout," They'll seek to find me north and south, I've gone to find my ain true love. The field is cut and bleeds to red. The cannon balls fly round my head, The infirmary man may count me dead, When I've gone to find my ain true love, I've gone to find my ain true love. And hauntingly sung by Alison Krauss (with Sting). If you'd like to hear it, you can view a video of a live performance at: http://www.columbiarecords.com/coldmountain/

Sure is Prox Mine popped into my head today; "I turned into the broken one.. And lost the inspiration I want to give you all my love Like water.. To a blood red rose The passion, I can deal with hurt.. The pain while I can't do without him And this is like a milky way.. An oceon.. That only grows and grows.. And babe I fade to silver Silver Blue for you Fade away, away... away I turn and fade to Silver.. Silver Blue..." Taken from Roxette's 'Tourism' album, which I haven't had since tape form back in the day! It's a part from 'Silver Blue' track 10, missed it so much, I ran out to HMV at lunch to get it - only £4.99 for the CD now - bargain! IP: Logged |

I will. I do. I'm not sure a soldier's wife can listen to that song without tearing up.It's from the movie "Cold Mountain", by the way - also the source of my new favorite quote: "They call this war a cloud over the land, but they make the weather and then they stand in the rain and say, 'Sh*t, it's raining!'" Well, I guess that the quote's technically from the book IP: Logged |

Prox~ I am soooo with you on that quote!!! I totally remembered that line.. it stuck with me. What an awesome movie. I don't think I can handle the book.. books are too emotional for me. It was awesome in it's realism ands sadness. But it was a great movie. When it was over, I looked at my husband with tears in my eyes, and said..."That is the stupidest movie ever! Meaning it was actually good.... and then proceeded to bawl for ten minutes. I only watched it about a week ago. IP: Logged |

Loved the book, Prox. The movie was...pretty good. Not bad. Better than many. I wasn't really taken with Nicole in that role. Renee was amazing though. OK. Back to subject. Sad songs. Think I'll bow out. Carry On. IP: Logged |

"Time and Again" by A-ha (what I am listening to now)The sun brought me The moon caught me The wind fought me The rain got me The road sent me For years bent me The stars overwhelmed me Time and again But now I can't see the stars The star is a thing I can't see And now I don't feel the same To feel is a thing I can't be Earth crushed me Fame brushed me The streets hushed me As life touched me Time placed me Events dazed me Love saved me Now and again But now there can be no love Love is a thing I can't be And there can be no trust Trust is a thing I can't see But now there can be no love Love is a thing that can't be Now I can't be so strong Strong is a thing I can't be Time and again Time and again The sun brought me... Randall, doesn't Whiskey Lullaby just make you stop dead in your tracks when you hear it? It's especially poignant for me since I work at a rehab and see this sort of situation on almost a daily basis. The first time I heard the song was the day after we found out a former patient had "gone back out" and was found dead earlier in the week. One of the main reasons he had started drinking was because his wife left him. There's a part of me that cries every time I hear the song. Hugs to you when you feel blue. LLL IP: Logged |

"In The Ghetto" sung by Elvis Presley As the snow flies On a cold and gray chicago mornin’ A poor little baby child is born In the ghetto And his mama cries ’cause if there’s one thing that she don’t need It’s another hungry mouth to feed In the ghetto People, don’t you understand The child needs a helping hand Or he’ll grow to be an angry young man some day Take a look at you and me, Are we too blind to see, Or do we simply turn our heads And look the other way Well the world turns And a hungry little boy with a runny nose Plays in the street as the cold wind blows In the ghetto And his hunger burns So he starts to roam the streets at night And he learns how to steal And he learns how to fight In the ghetto Then one night in desperation The young man breaks away He buys a gun, steals a car, Tries to run, but he don’t get far And his mama cries As a crowd gathers ’round an angry young man Face down on the street with a gun in his hand In the ghetto And as her young man dies, On a cold and gray chicago mornin’, Another little baby child is born In the ghetto ...And his mama cries.
