year old with acne. You had given me a recipe for poor skin, and it really worked. Could I use the same doseges for my son? Right now he's back east, where there is a lot of moisture, but when he moves out here, his skin will dry out more quickly. He has a cream from the Dr. but I don't know what's going to happen if he is exposed to the sun, and dryness. Any ideas? Mary Have a nice day! (my skin is sooooo clear now)!!IP: Logged |

Yes, you may use those supplements to help your son. I would like to ask what cream he is using, only so I know if it will contraindicate with the sun. If it does, I could maybe suggest an alternative. Please email me back. Young boys have it difficult enough without having to cope with acne as well. I'd like to be of some practical help. I think that the Proactive line is quite good. With the exception of the toner. The toner is totally unnecessary in my opinion, especailly so after a benzoyl peroxide scrub that is washed in, then off, by water. It contains glycolics which after a benzoyl peroxide product should not really be needed. No cream residue or anything to strip off you see. The make up I would not touch. I'm sorry, we had a good look at it and we all thought it was quite awful.Out of all the proactive products. I like the repairing lotion best of all. It is tolerated by even the most sensitive skin. My fav. cleanser for eliminating tiny bumps under the skin and one which is far more gentle and effective than the proactive is the Neutrogena Daily Scrub. It eliminates blackheads very gently and super quickly without any sqeezing or prodding, and without using hair spray technology on little sticky pads that are basically glued on to your nose. I had a neighbor who rushed to see me, when one of these had ripped the top layer of skin off on her nose. It took her ages to recover. It was raw and nasty. Lots of vitamin E and aloe in it's pure form from my yard was needed to repair the damage. It was like a severe burn. The Nutrogena Blackhead Eliminating Daily Cleanser works better than the Proacvtive one. It exfoliates without drying and has salicylic acid of only 2% which is good enough to work, but low enough to not cause problems. It is also less sun reactive than B.P. I think that these cleansers should be used along with the proper supplements to clear your skin of infection. Once the skin starts to balance on it's own, it is well to limit these products to only occassional use when needed. I mean the strong products - not a good cleanser, which is a must every single day. I would recommend only Jane Iredale make up to those with sensitive, or reactive skin. These are all natural micronized mineral based, with built in natural sunscreens. It's like putting gem stones on your face. The best plastic surgeons in the world recommend this brand. In tests this make up was found to be the best of it's kind. Once you start using this, you'll never shop for any other brand ever. They do great gloss and lipstick sticks too, I purchased some only yesterday. I don't wear her powders much these day, perhaps I'll apply a little bronzer if I'm going somewhere super special. When I did television work I wore her stuff all the time, under hot lights too without a single reaction. It looks so natural because it is. Check it out on www.janeiredale.com

Hi Gia,Do you like the Bare Essentials line? It seems to work well on my daughter, I'm still not sure if its for me or not, seems to get 'cakey?' on me and offers poor coverage on nose pores. IP: Logged |

Gia......could I trouble you for your opinion on one other topic???? I have an 11 yr old that is just now getting over a reallllllllllllllly bad case of chicken pox and I'm worried sick about her scarring, also last Thurs. my 13 yr. olds face and shoulder met the asphalt while going about 20 mph on a go-ped........again, I worry about the scarring. As her pox scabs (ewwwww) come off we're using messy vit. E oil. (She has had absolutely no itching, thank goodness) So, I guess my question would be if Vit. E oil is still the best I can do to help prevent scarring. I tell ya, you should see the looks I got when I had to take them into Costco, hahahaha.........I have a feeling CPS (child protection services) will be pounding on my door shortly, thinking I must beat my childen, they both look terrible. Well one thing at a time right?1. The Bare Essential line is a mineral line also, though the colours are not as good, nor the minerals as finely micro milled as in the Jane Iredale. That is why the coverage is not perfect. Please note you only need of fraction of what you would normally use in a normal powder. Jane Iredale is a wee bit more expensive, but I promise it's worth every penny. It's the best of the mineral line and it has no corn talc, or other fillers in it either. I seen people with post laser use it and it's fab. 2. Lavender is good for healing. Buy a good essential oil and put a few drops in the bath water. Let them both have a good soak. Then apply vitamin E oil d'alpha tocopherol to the scars daily. Night time is best. During the day use aloe it's less oily.
3. Make sure they have enough vitamin C, Zinc, and a good B complex. These promote all skin wound healing. Sounds like you have your hands full! Lots of Gia IP: Logged |

Ah, Gia, I've had acne for awhile, since I was about 10. It never really goes away, and I'm 15 now. I've grown to accept and not really care about it, but I would really like for it to go away. I have oily Meditarrenean skin =/. I'm on pills and cream that my dermatologist gave me, and they've slowly worked a tad, but eh, the acne's still there. The pills are called Tetracyline, and the cream Benza-Clin (BP, thank God, my skin reacts badly to SA). I've been using them for about a month and a half.I've tried Proactiv before, when I was younger, but I always skipped using it and so on since I was more irresponsible about my skin then, but I'm thinking of trying it again, if what my derm gave me doesn't work out. Well, the point of this post is- just wondering if you can tell me about the recipe you gave Philbird? Sounds like it worked for her =). Thanks a load.

Gee Gia,Thanks again for your help! The thought of using Aloe had never even crossed my mind and I didn't realize lavender was good for healing. Perfect! Thank you so much. And I'll definately check out Jane Iredale's line. Noreen IP: Logged |

I'm not exactly Gia, but...my acne has been beyond bearing, and after years of dermatologist visits that did essentially nothing, my general Dr prescribed Minocycline, which I supplement using the most amazing, yet reasonably priced skincare line I've used yet (and I found it on my own in a magazine): L'Oreal Pure Zone productsI use Steps 1 and 2 year-round, and subsitute Lubriderm Advanced Therapy lotion for their Step 3, but only during the winter when the skin's truly in need of moisture. You can find the L'Oreal Pure Zone line in any major grocery or drug store, and it runs around 7$ per container, which should last a good 2-3 months. Just humble advice from an 18 year old who still battles her facial skin... ------------------ -K "Most people love with restraint As if they were someday to hate We hated gently, carefully As if we were someday to love"-Venus Trines at Midnight

Gia,If I may... What is your take on the use of oils in skin care? I'm speaking of natural oils. I prefer almond oil with few drops of lavender & orange essential oil (or some other combination) to a regular moisturizer. Oil 'feels' much better and so I just forget to apply some lotion. I don't have much complaints about my skin either. However, I just sometimes think if it is a mistake in the long run. Your opinion?
