This should probably go in "Health and Healing", but I never go there. So I'm posting it here. Yeah.OK. I had this headache that started-up on Friday and has been getting worse daily. As of Sunday my neck started to hurt as well, a symptom which continued over to yesterday. I began to get nausous as well, and thought, "Oh, well, hell - these're some of the symptoms of Meningitis that I remember being briefed on when I first went into dorms." Jason, thoroughly freaked for my health, took me to the Emergency Room. I, freaked both for myself and for the Megster, complied. A general exam and a blood work-up later, and they said that I had no temp (it was a bit of one...my usu. is about 96.7, yesterday I was 98), my WBC count's normal, etc. Even though my head felt like it was about to split open, it's probably not even a sinus infection. We were sent home. Though I was limited to the bed for the rest of yesterday and've been taking it easy today, my equalibrium's started to get funky and my fine motor controls are sub-par. I feel slightly dissconnected from everything around me, though I'm not on any meds. Any thoughts? IP: Logged |

Yep, I've been drinking a good deal of water - I thought for a while that it might be a dehydration headache.IP: Logged |

Proxime, Have you ever had a migrane before? A lot of times they have similar symptoms as you are expressing. Have you tried an anti imflamitory such as Advil? Hope you atre feeling better! IP: Logged |

Yes, it sounds like a whopper of a migraine, esp. the disconnectedness after the majority of the pain has subsided. I have one word for you if it is: Imitrex. Ibuprofen and the like don't seem to be too successful in treating migraines from what I've read and in my experience (I used to get migraines - that is, until I took Imitrex, they run in my family, mom and bro get 'em too).I'm surprised they didn't consider that possibility. Has this happened to you before? Have you just recently experienced high stress? My understanding is that they're more likely to occur right after a period of intense stress lets up.

sounds to me very much like a migrane..i have suffered from them for about 12 years..definately i would suffer more after a period of intense stress as isis says..not alot relieves the pain once ur so far into the migrane..get plenty of rest..and sleeeeeep...sleep deprivation can bring on migranes too...sometimes a ct scan is a good idea with this type of headache..hope your feeling better soon proxieme IP: Logged |

Hello Proxieme,I think what makes your headache a little unusual, is that it started on Friday and it spread into Sunday. Did get a bit better in between? If it did it's probably a cluster headache. They can last on and off for a few days. Otherwise it could very well be a viral or bacterial infection. If you've had an ear, or sinus infection lately, cold sore, monoucleosis, flu, bug bite or any other type of infection, even a skin one, I would mention it to your doctor. Also watch out for rashes. Hope you feel better. Mommy Gia, indeed! Gia IP: Logged |

26t - I apologize if my earlier response was a bit terse - I still felt all wobbly at the time. Thank you for the get-well-soon Philbird - I now think that that's what I probably had. They only ok'd Aspirin, DayQuil, and Sudafed while I'm breastfeeding, fat lot of good they did. Isis - Yeah, I checked with my Grandma and she used to get them before menopause. Yeah, too - nothing that I can take touched them. I've never had them before, and I don't think that I want to have one again I guess it's been a high stress period - there's been a lot of uncertainty recently, and Jase and I have probably been fighting a bit. Ugh. CM - Thank you Yep, I got that impression, too. There wasn't much I could do once it started, and all I wanted to do was sleep. Gia - It didn't exactly get better, but kinda. When I'd wake-up from sleeping, it'd seem to almost be gone for a blessed minute. I think that's why I wanted to sleep so much. For that minute. I don't think it's an infection (though I certainly thought it could be before it cleared up), and I'll check more into cluster headaches to see if it could've been that. LS - Oh! And it cleared up through yesterday (w/ even the wobbly feeling almost going eventually) and today seems pretty much done IP: Logged |

Prox, you poor thing. It's just brutal to have a simple headache, let alone a MIGRAINE when you have a wee one to look after. It's cruel and unusual punishment, is what it is. I hope everything is ok with you and Jase. I know he's going through a bit of an ego-bruising time, and men tend to react to that sort of thing by becoming defensive and somewhat adversarial. It's in the jeans ...er...genes. what? Please don't get any more migrains, ok? Because the idea of you trying to tend to/bathe/pick up/soothe/play with your little baby girl while being assaulted with a headache...makes me cringe and feel very bad for you, I've been there, sweetie pie. It's just brutal. I'm sure others have too. I'm glad you feel better. Try soaking in a aromatic bubble bath while kiddo is sleeping, when you can, and maybe you can keep the stress levels at bay in the future.

Sheaa - Thankya lioneye - Yeah, it can be a pain to deal with...well, pain...w/ a munchkin, but it wasn't all that bad. The lucky thing was that it hit on a 4-day weekend and Jase was there to take up most of the slack. Except breastfeeding, of course. But then he'd ferry the kiddo over to me when that time came. It's good to know someone's been there, too. I mean, bad. I mean...you know what I mean. Yep, Jase and I've been fighting a bit. Mostly pamby stuff. Little things that we'll both get defensive about. Oh, and that he seems to think that house elves come and clean up each night. noreen - Thank You No, no spinning. Not until I took the Tylenol 3, anyway - but that's a different story. Yeah, so yesterday I woke up with the headache pretty much gone. We were sitting watching TV - Jase was home for the morning - when an increasing painful pressure on my left temple started. As a few minutes passed, some of my face and scalp went partially numb. Meg was dropped off at my friend's house and Jase and I went back to the Emergency Room. I got triaged and sent directly back for examination owing to the numbness, cranial pressure, and the fact that my left pupil wasn't responding properly to light. Shortly thereafter, a CT Scan was ordered. It turned-out fine. It was judged to be (allelujah and at long last) a whopper of a migrane. Because I'm breastfeeding, I got Tylenol 3. Did you know that that contains an opiate? I knew that, but didn't know what that really means...I found out while I sat, tingling, in my friend's livingroom when we went to pick-up the Megster. I'm not filling out the prescription.

Hey proxieme, I was wondering if perhaps it could be a "tension" (as in muscular tension) type headache. Sometimes, in our muscles, particularly our shoulders, trigger points can activate and refer pain to another part of our bodies, in this case, your head. The pain can be very severe, persistant, and difficult to locate, and sometimes has a tingling, prickly or numb sensation associated with it. Most people have trigger points in their bodies but are unaware of them until they start to cause pain elsewhere. Usually they rear their ugly little heads when you've been overusing particular muscles without stretching them, etc. I know you're a new mommy so that's why this possibility occurred to me ... you're body's probably not used to carrying around a heavy little bundle of joy. Try putting pressure on your shoulders and up along the back of your neck and see if you feel pain on any spots or shooting up. If you do, you might want to try some massage therapy, particularly trigger point therapy. Basically, the massage therapist will find those trigger points for you and apply pressure on them for about 30seconds to 1 minute. Yes, you feel the pain, but eventually it'll lessen and the muscles will start to relax. There could be a number of points that could be contributing to this pain so don't be surprised if your therapist is putting pressure on areas that are nowhere near your headache pain.Just a thought I had. Hope you're doing well. ------------------ "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - Ghandi IP: Logged | |
